Jaspers Enterprises Inc., which owns a Wingate hotel in Maryland Heights and three other Missouri hotels, has filed for bankruptcy.

Jaspers Enterprises filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in St. Louis Monday, listing between $10 million and $50 million in assets and between $1 million and $10 million in liabilities.

The company lists its Wingate by Wyndham hotel on Riverport Drive in Maryland Heights as its principal place of business. That hotel is in receivership, said Rob Eggmann, an attorney who is representing Jaspers Enterprises in the bankruptcy. Midas Hospitality LLC was appointed receiver of the hotel on January 31, said Midas' chief financial officer J.T. Norville.

Jaspers Enterprises' other hotels -- a Red Roof Inn, Howard Johnson and Days Inn -- are all located in Branson.  

Jaspers Enterprises' largest unsecured creditors are Days Inn Worldwide, which has a $391,760 claim, and Wingate Inns International, which has a $252,706 claim. Its local unsecured creditors include the St. Louis County Department of Revenue, which has a $25,408 claim and The Brennan Group, which has a $14,388 claim.

Eggmann said two of the company's hotels in Branson, the Days Inn and the Howard Johnson, are closed for the winter but will reopen in about six weeks.

In 1988, Jaspers Enterprises' president, Keith Jaspers of Springfield, unsuccessfully ran in southwest Missouri's 7th District for the Democratic nomination for U.S. House of Representatives.
