in a personal narrative unit, as a Jounalism assignment, as part of an ethics lesson, as a senior exit essay, as a reflection piece during a service-learning project, or as a writing piece to complement literature.
Brainstorm possible topics through journal writing, quotations/proverbs, an inspirational news story, responses to literary characters, or thepre-writing questionnaire.
Allow time for classroom discussion.
Write your own Laws of Life essay and share it with your students.
Discuss and examine effective introductory paragraphs.
Discuss ways that supporting points can develop the writer's personal law of life.
Ask students to discuss their essays with others throughout the writing process. Family members and peers can be a valuable resource.
Develop aPeer Editing processor Teacher/student conferences to discuss, review and edit their work.
Reserve classroom time to share polished essays on a volunteer basis.
