Join Post-Dispatch TV critic Gail Pennington for a live discussion about all things TV -- what's great, what's new, what's dead.

Gail: Wow, barely made it. I was fooling around, la la la, straightening up the DVD shelf -- PBS sends out way, way too many screeners -- and all of a sudden it was 12:59 and I was on the brink of standing you guys up. And I'm told that if I'm not LIVE by 1 p.m., people can no longer post questions; wouldn't want that to happen. So here goes.
Ron: When will "My Boys" return?
Why do you require an e-mail address? I never received an answer to my question several weeks ago either via your chat room or e-mail.
Gail: I don't have a date for "My Boys" to return, but I do know TBS has ordered another season, and that the first will be out on DVD June 24.
More importantly, let's discuss your other question, because some people apparently still don't understand how chats (formally, live discussions) work. To get answers to the questions you post here, you have to follow along live or read the transcript afterward by going to STLtoday.com/TV. All the past transcripts are archived there.
The email address is required to avoid spam, but I never see the email address and couldn't respond by email if I wanted to, which I don't, because, well, this is a live chat and I answer here. I also wouldn't answer a chat question on my blog, Tube Talk, which is a blog, not a "chat room."
I explain all this even though Ron may never see it. Like that "Judging Amy" woman in the very beginning, he may just sit home, hoping for an email. But I hope he figures it out.
brandon: hi again my question this week, is prison break going to be back for another season because this past season got a little goofy and also is the unit going to be picked also
Gail: Yes on "Prison Break," with the locale moving to Los Angeles. Both Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell will return; no word on other cast members, who could be stranded in Panama.
"The Unit" is on the bubble for renewal. Lots of people are thinking it won't be back.
Naomi: Do you know why the 11:00 p.m. repeat of the 7:00 p.m. showing MSNBC's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" was moved back to 9:00 p.m.? It also re-airs at 1:00 a.m. Whose decision is that...MSNBC or Charter?
Thanks...
Gail: Charter just retransmits the cable networks' lineups; it doesn't tinker. MSNBC moved the "Countdown" repeat into prime time after Tucker Carlson was fired. I'm sure it's considered a good thing for Olbermann to be in prime time twice. I imagine you preferred 11, though, because there was no conflict with the rest of the prime-time lineup.
Gina: Gail,
I was wondering if any of the networks are even considering airing a night of movies? They seem to show the worst things possible on Fridays and Saturday nights anyway so wouldn't it seem reasonable that they spend a few bucks on movies for the stay at home crowd? Yes, we are cable/dish holdouts!!
Gail: The broadcast networks air a movie here and there, but they'll never return to a movie night -- either original or theatrical -- for a lot of reasons. Most people don't want to watch movies with commercials. Movie rentals are easy and cheap (Netflicks, Red Box)and there are plenty of movie channels on cable, plus On Demand and Pay-Per-View for new releases. Competition to acquire theatrical movies is intense, from cable movie channels, and the networks have been priced out.
As movie fans, do you know what you're missing on basic cable? Three channels -- AMC, Turner Classic Movies and Fox Movie Channel -- air movies around the clock. TCM would be the channel I'd take to a desert island; read its lineup and you'll see why.
