kdunlap: Don't know if you can help with this one. Wanting to take a trip to Cedar Pointe/Sandusky Ohio for three or four days and obviously go to the theme park.
I have been told horror stories about many of the hotels by co-workers an d friends. Apparently since this is basically a "summer" town many of the hotels are run down and not taken care of.
Do you have any suggestions on hotels in this area? When I search the web they all look fine in the photos provided.
The hotels that are on the theme park property seem to be really nice, but I just want a hotel room for a few nights and I don't want to buy the place, VERY PRICEY!
What else do you know of that is of interest to see or do in the area?

thanks
Tom Uhlenbrock: I have not been to Cedar Point (my boss went). I do prefer to stay on the grounds of amusement parks like Orlando because of the hassle-free entrance and exit. (I once wanted in five different lines before I actually got into Disney at Orlando.) The on-grounds hotel are more expensive, but you get what you pay for. I'm sure you have tried the Cedar Point website for advice on lodging. what I'd do is pick three or four in your price range, then go to www.tripadvisor.com and read the reviews by previous guests. However, even this can be tricky. What one person thinks is a bargain, another might think it's a ripoff. If you have kids, the Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky is a great choice, at about $190 a night. If you don't have kids, steer clear. On the lower side, Maples Motel has rates of about $49, and gets pretty good reviews for the money. Sandusky, of course, is on Lake Erie and the north side of the penisula across Sandusky Bay has many state parks, historic lighthouses and beaches. I'd certainly consider heading north for a couple of days. It's beautiful country. By the way, if you're a fan of roller coasters, Cedar Point is America's top amusement park. Have fun. TU
