Dan Galvin of Gateway Constructors and Linda Wilson of MoDOT will field questions about Highway 40 reconstruction for an hour each Wednesday at 2 p.m.

raadjam: Where the Metro tracks run under I-64 from the Brentwood/I-64 station into Richmond Heights, I think its called the cross county bridge? Anyway, what are the plans for that, is the design going to be the same as the other overpasses?
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: When Metro built that tunnel they took the I-64 reconstruction into account and put it deep anough so that we wouldn't bother it with our highway work. So there isn't anything that needs to be done with it.

bcough: Was there ever any thought about having a dedicated off-ramp for Hanley on eastbound 64? It looks like you could sneak one in just after 64 crosses Brentwood, and connect right to the eastbound CD lane. That way, the people wanting to go to Hanley wouldn't have to go through the light at Brentwood. Of course, there's so much else going on there, it might have caused more trouble than it was worth. I've enjoyed reading these discussions; thanks for taking the time to do this.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: Almost every possible combination of ramps has been considered over the years of MoDOT's conceptual design and the final design by Gateway Constructions. The Brentwood-I-170-Hanley area is the most complicated part of the project. We also have extremely tight right of way and have tried to take as little additional property as possible. There just really isn't the room and the adquate spacing for an extra off ramp on eastbound 64 to Hanley. We think the new design is going to work well and so much better than what we used to have out there.

CopyChief: Thanks for doing these chats, and putting up with some of the same questions being asked each week, sometimes multiple times. Hopefully this one hasn't been covered, at least in a while. With all of the additional traffic, Eager at 170 and (especially) Brentwood at 40 (sorry, 64), are pretty torn up at this point. Are there any plans, once the weather warms up, to resurface the pavement? I know this would cause a terrible jam given the volume of traffic flowing through the area, but it seems like it would pay dividends, too, once completed.
At any rate, I do want to compliment the job you guys have done on keeping traffic at Hanely & Eager flowing. What I initially thought would be a disaster became quite a pleasant surprise.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: Thanks for your comments. Yes, Brentwood will be repaved once the weather warms up a bit more consistently. We will do the final paving there at night so we need temps in the 50s. That should start happening sometime in late March or April.

DividebyZero: Any chance that a St. Louis County employee could join these chats? I think it would be very beneficial, based on how well-received you two are, Linda and Dan.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: During the chat hour from 2-3 p.m. I try to get answers from County employees and others on the questions we get. We can talk to the Post about including a County and perhaps city person to our conversation. I do try to involve them if they are available. I most definitely share any questions for them. Typically the County and City questions have been signal timing items. Many times we have to take the question and go observe the specific complaint and the engineers have to analyze can anything be changed. It typically isn't something we can answer on the spot unless it's an item we have already observed. We'll talk about the possibility so thanks for the suggestion.

Todd: Thanks so much for a great job on the western half of I-64 and for keeping these discussions going - they are very helpful!
Over the last month there have been several posting about the timing of the light at Lindbergh & Ladue Roads. I have a concern about the lack of a pedestrian crossing signal at that intersection. There are two schools very close by (Westminster & MICDS) and I have seen middle and high school students trying to cross there - they try to cross with a green, but left turning traffic presents a problem. Traffic signals in all directions from this signal do provide pedestrian crossing signals (Lindbergh @ Tealwood, Chaminade & Conway; and Ladue @ Warson & Spoede). A pedestrian crossing could be an 'on demand only' crossing so traffic is not held up unnecessarily.
Who has responsibility for this traffic signal, and can a pedestrian signal be considered? Thank you!
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: The intersection of Lindbergh and Ladue is MoDOT's responsibility. I will share your concerns with our MoDOT West County engineer and have them look into this.
