Dan Galvin of Gateway Constructors and Linda Wilson of MoDOT will field questions about Highway 40 reconstruction for an hour each Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Moonberry: Any idea as to when the "early" opening of I-64 will be announced? I'm not asking for when it will be opened, just when the announcement might come. i realize it is probably too early to tell now, but perhaps in a month or two?
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: We'll have an announcement of when the highway will open sometime in November, but at this point we really don't know when that will be.

Dan

Anne: Once 64 opens, I will be using it to get to The Heights in Richmond Heights. I'll be coming from the East. My question--will I be able to get onto Hanley and go South to Dale? I'm a bit confused at the exits that will be there. (I suppose I could get off Big Bend and take that to Dale?)

Thanks!
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: Either one of those options would work for you. The reason whey we don't allow southbound left turns now at Dale is because we don't have room for a turn lane until we finish the Hanley Eager connection.

Dan

tom: Is it safe to drive on the closed section of I64 when the crews are not working?
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: I'm going to assume you're joking. No, until we reopen the highway it is not safe to drive on it. There are lots of things you can run into out there, including workers, equipment, and gaps in the pavement. People just need to be patient a few months longer and then you can drive it all you like without getting cited for trespassing.

Todd: You have quick knowledge of which government is responsible for which roads. Is that information easily available to the public through a web site? I'm particularly interested in two roads within the City of Kirkwood. Who maintains Manchester Road and Kirkwood Road within the City of Kirkwood? Also it is great to see that a pedestrian crosswalk and light are being installed at Lindbergh and Ladue Roads. Thanks for this wonderful service - is it possible to maintain such a consumer friendly forum after I-64 reopens?
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: The City of Kirkwood maintains Kirkwood Road through the city, roughly from Manchester to I-44. MoDOT is responsible for Manchester Road all except the part that goes through the City of Maplewood. Thank you for the comment about the work at Lindbergh and Ladue. I am talking to the Post-Dispatch now and we are working on plans to continue this chatroom after the I-64 project is complete. Watch for more information to come on that.

SchwaSTL: I was curious what your plans are about for the concrete plant at 64 and 170. It appears to be sitting directly where the north connector road from Hanley to Brentwood will be. Will you be disassembling the concrete plant and moving it to a different location to complete the concrete production, or will you be dismantling it and bringing the remaining needed concrete in from another plant? What sort of timeline are you looking at for this?
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: You're right, it is right in the path of the north connector road. Today we began the excavation needed for the mainline paving that will be done in that area and will soon break down the concrete plant as well. Any more concrete we need will then come from outside suppliers. We also have a very large (60-inch) MSD line relocation that has to happen in that area as well, so we'll be working there for some time to come, even without the concrete plant in the way.
