I-64 Live
Dan Galvin of Gateway Constructors and Linda Wilson of MoDOT will field questions about Highway 40 reconstruction for an hour each Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, September 16, 2009 02:00 PM CDT
Max: I have noticed a barrer on east bound 40 that looks like it prevents you from getting off at Bellevue. Will you be able to get off 40 at Bellevue still?
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: Yes. There will be an exit from eastbound 64 to Bellevue but the exit ramp will be located closer to Big Bend. So right after you cross under Big Bend is where the new Bellevue exit will be.

Dog: When the remaining portion of highway is opened, will it have the temporary striping, and, if so, will the permanent striping/demarcation lines have to wait until next spring?
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: We're in the process of doing much of the permanent striping right now. There may still be a few areas that need to be striped next year but most of it should be done by the time we open.

NIck: Is there any chance that the portion of Hwy 40/64 between Kingshighway and Skinker will open before the remainder. It looks like it's almost complete now.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: No, we'll open the entire thing at once. We still have some barrier and landscaping to complete on that section so it's not as finished as you might think.

cats: Clayton Rd/Hanley and Clayton Rd/Brentwood signals need to be adjusted back to the cycles they were on before Hanley Rd was re-opened. North/south traffic time is way too long, and east/west is not long enough. Can the timings be evened out some? especially at night.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: The signals at Clayton and Hanley and at Brentwood are controlled by St. Louis County. I know they have been making adjustments and have changed timing since Hanley reopened. We are trying to encourage people to take Hanley north and south and Brentwood north and south during rush hours, especially evening. The delays using I-170 to Eager to Hanley are very long right now. Therefore we want Clayton commuter traffic to just go straight south on Hanley, for example. I will check with St. Louis County to check these two locations signal timing.

TLg5: In preparation of the 64/40 project, the lanes on I70 we narrowed, shoulders were removed, and navigating became trickier. When the project is completed, will the additional lanes be removed and shoulders restored?
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: Yes. The lanes on I-70 will be returned back to three in each direction with shoulders. This work will happen at night and probably not until next spring. We have some resurfacing to do and then restriping. We are also looking at extending the ramps from north and south I-270 to eastbound 70 to help with that merge. So don't expect I-70 to go back to three lanes the day we open I-64. It will be done next spring.
