Dan Galvin of Gateway Constructors and Linda Wilson of MoDOT will field questions about Highway 40 reconstruction.

Alex: Is MO-DOT considering keeping the fourth lane on EB I-70 between I-270 and St. Charles Rock Road after the I-64 project is completed? As soon as that lane was added and the lanes from I-270 had a dedicated lane to flow into on I-70 the bottleneck that existed on NB I-270 disappeared on normal traffic days. This was before 40 was closed, and even with the increased traffic after the closure, the I-270 & I-70 interchange is much better than it was before I-70 was restriped.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: The Federal Highway Administration gave MoDOT temporary approval to temporarily restripe I-70 and I-44 to add an extra lane in each direction. We will be returning both highways back to the original condition in 2010, after I-64 is complete. The temporary striping has reduced the lane and shoulder widths and therefore we cannot keep this as the long term condition.

Anne W.: I currently take Highway 40 from Big Bend to Kingshighway. When the eastern half of 40 is closed, I planned on taking Oakland from McCausland to Kingshighway. Will this route work? I'm a bit unclear as to when the Oakland bridge over 40 will be down? The plans say it will not be down at the same time the Clayton bridge is down. So will it always be possible to take Oakland ? Or will I need to change my route?

Thanks.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: When we close the eastern half of I-64, both the Oakland and Clayton Avenue bridges will be replaced. They will not be done at the same time. The current plan is to do the Oakland bridge first. When it is complete and reopened, then the Clayton Avenue bridge will be closed and replaced. So for the first roughly half of the year, you will not be able to cross I-64 on the Oakland Avenue bridge, but in the second half of the year, you will be able to.

GoodDriver: I typically look forward to the beginning of the month, when we get a preview of what's to come over the next 4 weeks of the project. But there wasn't one for August?? Will we get one for September?
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: I'm sorry you missed the August Month at a Glance. It was released at the first of the month and can be found on the I-64 website. Go to www.thenewi64.org, click on Construction Updates and scroll down a little until you see it. We typically put this out on the first working day of each month.

Rita Heinicke: I need to go to th Cardinal Cardbury Center off Laclede Station Road. I live in O'Fallon, MO -- directly between Highway 40 and Highway 70. What is best way to get there? Is Hanley Road (south) still closed off 40?

Thank you.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: Hanley Road is open at I-64. You could take I-70 to I-170 and exit on Hanley South.

Jenny Tabachik: When is the anticipated opening of the section they are working on now.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: The I-64 section from I-270 to I-170 is scheduled for completion and reopening by December 31, 2008. At that point, we will close the section of I-64 from I-170 to Kingshighway until the end of 2009.
