Dan Galvin of Gateway Constructors and Linda Wilson of MoDOT will field questions about Highway 40 reconstruction.
Wednesday, October 8, 2008 02:00 PM CDT
Mike Murray: Why are the lights on the Kingshighway/I-64 bridge still not on? The intersection works well for motorists but is unuseable for pedestrians and cyclists? Why is it that other highway users seem to be an afterthought if considered at all?
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: We would love to turn on the lights at the Kingshighway interchange, and just as soon as Ameren connects the interchange lights to power will will do so. I'm told that will happen by the end of the year.

Dan

Aaron: Is the frist section of 40 going to open up before Dec 31?
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: I guess you missed our press conference last Friday. That's when we announced that if all goes well we could be complete as soon as the end of November, or as late as mid-December.

Dan

Rae: Hi Dan & Linda,

Thanks for the time you have spent with us thus far. The fly-over ramp from south I-170 onto east 40/64 seems really narrow. Are the concrete barriers in their permanent positions?

I've been lucky that I don't have to "commute" as such, but do a lot of driving in my business.

Jeanne
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: The south to east flyover ramp is about 27 feet wide, and with cast in place concrete barriers, that's as wide as it's going to get. Right now it's temporarily striped to carry two lanes of traffic, but once construction is finished it will be restriped to a single lane. So that will give you a little more room.

Dan

jz: Also, has an opening date been set yet for the Spoede bridge. Finally, will the concrete plant be moved for the east end of the project.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: Expect Spoede to open sometime in November. The concrete plant will stay where it is for the duration of the project, right in the middle of the job, east of Brentwood.

Dan

herb t: once the hwy 40 poject is completed, will any or all of interchanges be landscaped (etc.. trees, shrubs)??
right now, the I-270/I-40 interchange has been done for years but it looks so bare w/o some trees & shrubs to help spruce it up.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: There will be landscaping at the interchanges which is due to begin soon. We will be planting trees (one tree planted for every tree we removed) and shrubs, and we'll also be planting grass or sod in the cleared areas to prevent erosion.
