Dan Galvin of Gateway Constructors and Linda Wilson of MoDOT will field questions about Highway 40 reconstruction.

Graeme: I saw that the October 29th Chat was cancelled. If this is a duplicate since I asked last time please ignore.
What is the method that MoDOT will be using to stripe the new I64? Will you be using the white stripes outlined by the black or will it just be white? The biggest problem is seeing during the rain and there still is no good solution.
Thanks!
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: Since the new I-64 is built out of concrete, which is white, we will be using the white stripes with black outline. In Missouri and across the country, researchers are continually trying to improve the visibility, reflectivity and durability of stripes. This is our best system right now.

Rich: Why did u close the Entrance to 40 west On Oakland. I use this Daily to get on the highway since u closed Hampton. Why are u making it harder to get on the highway then it alredy is couldn't u have left this open till that half of 40 Closes. I have to go up to Mcasland and turn left there is no left turn signal and usaualy a long line of cars, and there r so many cars comeing the othere way onley 2 or 3 cars can get threw. So this can take a couple of rotains of the light. It has added al least 15 minuts to my morning drive. I don't want to back track to Kingshiway.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: The ramp is closed for a utility relocation for another week or so. The Oakland Bridge will be removed very shortly after we close the east half of I-64, so the utilities have to get out of the way before we close the highway.

Sarah: I was wondering why the left lane of 170 headed both north- and south-bound is closed for only a short distance near the 40 interchange. It is causing significant traffic back-ups during the evening and morning commutes and there doesn't seem to be an apparent purpose to the closure.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: We are constructing a sign structure foundation in the median. To do that we have to break out the existing median, bore a shaft, place the structural steel, pour concrete and allow it to cure. That should take a few more days to complete and we can reopen the inside lanes.
Dan
bantam weight: This question is not about highway 40 but a sensor that triggers the light at Natural Bridge and Lindbergh as you exit going northbound off of Lindbergh to Natural Bridge. The sensors are no longer working and you can sit there for what seems like an eternity before it turns green. People are starting to become inpatient with it and I have seen people run this red light the last few nights on my way home.
thanks
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: Thank you for sharing this. I will pass this on to our MoDOT traffic engineers in that area. For future reference, MoDOT has a 24/7 customer service center. You can call the center and talk to a person to report these types of problems anytime day or night. The number is 314-340-4100 or 1-888-ASK-MODOT (1-888-235-6636).

Kevin: What is the date that the first part opens back up? Do you thing, barring a harsh winter, the 2nd phase will go faster than the first?
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: We don't have a firm date yet for the start of phase two, but we'll announce it about 30 days in advance (give or take). We should have something to say in another week or so if all goes well. We'll try to get the next part finished as fast as we can, and as long as we don't break the records for rainfall we set last spring and summer we should be OK.
