ECMO1: Why did MoDOT/Gateway Constructors wait until AFTER the Hampton interchange was closed to start working on the McCausland/40 interchange? We now have increased traffic being squeezed into one (very wavy) lane...
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: The work at McCausland is utility relocation work to be ready to start the roadway construction work later this year. The current work is being done by Missouri American Water to relocate a water line. We have not started roadway work yet. We understand this is creating congestion, but these utilities have to get out of the way before we close the east half of I-64 and begin our road construction.

Debbie: What is happening to Jefferson Avenue? Is it re-opening anytime soon? I recently heard that it will be closed for a long time while it is completely redone, which with the closing of inner 40 is very scary. It seems that with inner 40 closing soon, it will be an important avenue to get around.
Thank you!
Debbie
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: The Jefferson Avenue viaduct just south of Highway 40 is being rebuilt by the city of St. Louis. It is scheduled to reopen sometime next month.

Jeff: The lane closure on 170 the past two weeks has doubled my daily commute. I realize its only for two weeks but it feels like a preview of whats to come next year with the other Highway 40 closure. I will admidt that the first closure went very smoothly and the recent lane change would be my only real complaint. What advice would you give to us living in Dogtown and South City that commute to Westport and other commercial heavy areas in the county. All routes seem to include endless stop lights and excessive waits. Please ease my mind.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: That restriction on I-170 is being picked up right now. As for next year, to get from Dogtown to West County, I would either go south to I-44 then head west to I-270 north, or you could cross I-64 at either Kingshighway or Skinker and go north to Forest Park Parkway to I-170 then south to I-64 west. While the I-44 route may seem like going out of your way it may be faster than dealing with the congestion and traffic signals on the other routes.

Kurtis Jr: Hello Da & Linda,

Are the new exit lanes on 170 approaching Forest Park Parkway permanent?

Thanks!
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: The extended exit ramps for northbound and southbound I-170 at Forest Park Parkway will be in place until the end of the I-64 construction in late 2009. At that time, MoDOT will evaluate whether to keep them. We had to eliminate the shoulders at these ramps to extend the exit ramps, so we want to watch how this works and analyze the safety before we decide to keep these permanent.

Linda Wilson

Anne: Hi Dan and Linda,
I haven't been able to find any information on what will happen to south bound I-170 at Eager once the second phase of the HWY 40 project closes. Will I still be able to exit on Eager?
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: Absolutely. You'll be able to go both north and south on I-170, to and from Eager Road. As part of the Hanley Road bridge reconstruction we will have a free flow northbound movement from Hanley west on Eager to I-170. The southbound exit to Eager should shift over to the west side of I-170 later this month.
