Dan Galvin of Gateway Constructors and Linda Wilson of MoDOT will field questions about Highway 40 reconstruction.

Frank: When Hanley reopens in the summer will the links (access roads) to and from Bentwood Blvd. be opened?
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: No, those will be among the last pieces of the system we complete. We'll have to break down our concrete plant first and do the final paving that connects the mainline and those two outer roads to everything else. The outer roads will open with the rest of the east half at the end of 2009.

dpb1: Since no pavement was torn out between McNight and Lindbergh and new pavement was placed over it, will the cost be deducted for on the cost of the new highway?
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: Any savings that may have come from reusing existing pavement and recycling concrete rubble into road base has already been factored into the overall project budget. It wasn't something we thought of once we got started but was always part of the plan.

Craig: When will the McCutcheon bridge open? The signs leading to the bridge still indicate it is closed. Thanks!
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: The city of Richmond Heights just finsihed some road work they have been doing on McCutcheon between the bridge and Clayton Road. Now that they have completed that we can complete the final things we need to do such as crash barrier, sidewalk and the paving to tie the bridge in with the roadway. That work is all weather dependent but we hope to have the bridge open sometime in January.

TOny: Holiday greeting guys. First off, the new highway looks great. My question is, when will we be able to access I-170 from east bound on Eager Road and make a left onto I-170 in front of Target like we were able to before the Highway construction began. I noticed that cars on West bound Eager can access I-170 at the intersection where Target is. So, why can’t the East bound traffic on Eager access I-170? Thank you very much and happy holidays.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: Thanks and same to you. Westbound Eager has a free flow right turn to go north on I-170. Eastbound is still prohibited from making a left turn and should continue to use Galleria Parkway to get to northbound I-170. The reason is that we need to give priority to east/west movement on Eager, especially once the Hanley Road bridge is closed. Eventually you will be able to go east on Eager to north on I-170, but not until we are finished with the Hanley bridge.

Mike: Should highway 40 going eastbound at 270 have three lanes that go through over 270? Right now it appears that this area wasn't completed as part of the switch over.
There is one lane that goes south on 270, one that goes north on 270 and two that continue east on 64. Prior to the construction there were three lanes that went through eastbound.
There is a large empty space that is confusing for drivers where the 270 traffic splits away from the highway 64 eastbound traffic.
Great work on the completed portion of the new 64. Even with the weather the travel has been great.
Dan Galvin and Linda Wilson: Eventually we will restripe that to three through lanes eastbound with one lane exiting to north and south I-270. But since we still want traffic going from the west to downtown to keep using I-70 and I-44 we need to provide a bit more capacity for vehicles heading to those routes. Most of the backup over the past couple of days was weather related. During the morning rush today we hear the backup wasn't even to Mason so it seems to be improving.
