Ray Friem: Hello all, Jessica and I are here and looking forward to answering your questions about transit in St. Louis. let's get started....
Lynn Scott: We are traveling from Arizona to St. Louis on Nov. 6. We need to take the light rail from Lambert Airport to Scott Airforce Base. We will be flying in on Northwest Airlines. Could you please give send me any info. on where we catch the light rail at the airport and the directions we will need to travel to the Base. Thank you.
Ray Friem: MetroLink (Red Line) departs from the main terminal from the Southeast corner of the buiding. If you go past the ticket counters on the second floor you will see a small corridor that leads to the MetroLink entrance. Two user tips: 1. There is no direct pathway from baggage claim, you must go up a level, and 2. You can save some money on fare by pre-purchasing your return ticket before you travel. The single ticket price at the airport is somewhat higher than at other MetroLink stations.
The Red Line trains all terminate at Scott AFB on the East side. If you want specific timetables you may contact customer service at 314-231-2345, or use our website www.Metrostlouis.org.
TheCityForum: Will Prop M be on the St. Louis Co. Voting Ballot this April? When Prop M last came up in 2008, there priority plan was to construct a new Metrolink line from the Clayton or Brentwood station, along I-170 in W. UCity, and then towards Westport. Is this still in the plans as the priority Metrolink project?
Ray Friem: Tax referendums are not what Metro does.... they are placed on the ballot by city or county government. We can report that there are conversations about another referendum attempt and that April is under consideration by County Government.
Metro is not the exclusive planner of new MetroLink corridors either. The final approval for any new construction rests with the East-West Gateway Council of Governments. That said, Metro is working cooperatively with Eastwest Gateway in a long range study/plan that identifies potential rail corridors along with other potential transit options. You may have seen or heard about a series of public workshops recently concluded where the public was invited to share their ideas for moving transit forward in our region. Novaline Tanksley: What street does bus 30 travel near arsenal and hampton in st. louis
Ray Friem: The # 30 Soulard uses Arsenal to cross Hampton. Route maps and turning directions for all routes are available at our website www.metrostlouis.org
Novaline Tanksley: I am a senior citizen who has never traveled on Metrolink. Will I be entitled to senior discount on thurs, fri and sat of this week using my State ID?
Ray Friem: Missouri residents age 65 and over have the privilege of riding the MetroLink and MetroBus for a reduced fare of approximately half the price of a regular ticket. Effective January 1, 2009, every senior wanting to take advantage of this discount now needs a special Metro Reduced Fare Permit. The Metro Reduced Fare Permit was introduced to provide added convenience and minimize confusion for seniors and for Metro transit operators and fare inspectors.
NOTE: Those 65 and over living in Madison County and selected townships in St. Clair County ride Metro for free with their Senior Pass, thanks to special transit funding provided by the State of Illinois.
