Glenn Turner: Sounds like LaRussa has his ears up with some of the older players. Kennedy and Spiezio better come to camp ready to play at a high level or they are likely headed right out of town or in Kennedy's case to the bench.
Kennedy is not a star player so giving Miles/Ryan/or a young player a chance over him is progress in my opinion.
Please tell MO to sign one more starter.
Jeff Gordon: Yeah, we've tried to help on that front to no avail. Scott Boras expects pitching prices to rise in the wake of the Santana deal. We'll see. The Cards ought to bring in one more guy, but it would have to be for low money. You're right about Kennedy and Spiezio -- if they don't excel this spring, the Cards ought to go young and speed up the retooling.
Glenn Turner: Chances of the folowing being the 5th starter till/if Mulder returns:
1. Reyes - is he a AAAA pitcher
2. Hawkesworth - disappointment at AAA last year
3. Boggs - ok stuff good pitching instincts
4. Pomeranz - is he healthy?
5. Octavino - a year away
6. Garcia - a year away
I like Thompson and Wellemeyer in the pen. Wellemeyer did pitch well last year so I could live with him as the number 5. Is it this depth that MO has decided not to spend money on another free agent Pitcher?
Jeff Gordon: Wellemeyer got decent arbitration money for a journeyman, so he figures prominently into the plans. He will get a chance to secure that No. 5 slot, yes. In an ideal world, the Cards would trade Reyes and getting another pitcher to replace him. But giving him away makes no sense.
DBQIA: If Chris Long's name was Chris Smith and if his father was not a very visible commentator on Fox would he be rated so high? I'm sure he is very very good, but has the added visibility associated with his father enhanced his reputation? Are there other prospects with a less visible family heritage that may have as good or a better chance to make an impact at the professional level?
Jeff Gordon: The football people I talk to really like the young man. (No, he's not a kid anymore). He could be a disruptive player at DE, something this team really needs.
Ken: The cheaters lost and they probably lose at least one more of those super bowl championships. They would have lost to the Rams and who knows, the cheaters would have probably lost the othe two. Each one was close. I hope the truth now comes out and Belichick is banned from the league and denied admission to the hall of Fame. For the rest of my life New England will no longer be known as the patriots but as the cheaters. I want to know what Goodell was hiding when he destroyed the tapes. His legacy is also tainted forever. Thank you Giants for beating the New England cheaters.
Do you think an investigation will actually show how the New England Cheaters did it in each of the cheater's super bowl wins?
Jeff Gordon: Don't count on it. The NFL doesn't want to give itself a black mark by delving into this too deeply. But there are a lot of people happy for the Giants right now . . .
Stan: Blues vs Florida Panthers....
I moved to S Fla 8 yrs ago. Blues used to play the Panthers in March. I worked out great and I was suprised how many Blues fans showed up to the games down here. Didnt take me long to realize it was because a lot of fans come down in March for vacation and watch the Cardinals spring training games.
It would be a good idea if the Blues could have their Southern road games in Fla again in March. Swing through Tampa and then S Fla. But Im sure its because the Panthers are not in the same division and March is about playing divisional games with the playoffs right around the corner.
I havent seen the Blues play in S Fla in almost 4 yrs now.
Stan
Jeff Gordon: The NHL is switching back to a schedule that allows every team to face every other team once a year. So you'll see teams from the West every other year now. It would be nice if the Blues made that trip in the spring, but accommodating that is difficult.
