Trevor: Hey Gordo - Assuming the Rams go with Howie's kid in the draft - where do they go in free agency? If we are going to 'spend to the cap', how much $$$ does that give us to spend? I would love to see help for the OL, specifically, Alan Fanica along with a center. What are our options in free agency? Any big splashes you forsee?
Jeff Gordon: The Rams won't spend to the cap, unless Chip Rosenbloom decides to go nuts. A few thoughts about potential free agents:

Lance Briggs: A huge impact linebacker and his eagerness to leave Chicago is well-documented. But why would he come to a 3-13 team?

Ken Hamlin: A big-hitting safety? That has been a novel concept with the Rams since Archuleta broke down. A guy like this would change everything.

Antwan Odom: The Titans may not be able to afford this DE and he CAN rush the QB. But what if the Rams believe Long will be there?

Randy Moss: Talk about a huge risk -- only a contender should go there, and only with a strong head coach. He ought to stay where he is.

Justin Smith: Solid DE, local-interest player -- but, again, could the Rams fill this need in the draft?

Alan Faneca: A 31-year-old guard isn't a great fit for a rebuilding team with two young starting guards coming back.

Flozell Adams: If the Rams bring Pace back, why would they spend big for a third startin-caliber tackle? The Rams need younger player here, as long as Pace IS going to play.

Glenn Turner: Clement will likely not be ready come April 1. Mulder (May Maybe???) Carpenter (August???). Do we sign another starter (Weaver/Fogg/Lohse)or are we just as good/bad off going with Reyes/Wellemeyer/Thompson and pray one of Boggs/Garcia/Hawkesworth/Ottavino/Pomeranz can help sometime this year if ready?
Jeff Gordon: This could be the year to break out the souvenir Cardinal rosary.

Denny: What is up with Tkachuk? Is it just me or is he not skating as hard as the rest of the team? He seems to be "waiting" for the puck to jump out at him, for a big play or something. The thing that really drives me crazy about him lately, is that every time an opposing player gets near him, he throws his hands up in the air like "Where is the call ref!?!?!?". You watch him, it happens several times a game. I have been a Tkachuk fan for many years, but it hasn't been looking good...
Jeff Gordon: Yeah, but Andy Murray went out of his way to praise him Sunday night. And Walt did score. He is near the end, for sure, but I'd be more concerned about getting tounger players like Stempniak and Toivonen on track.

Glenn Turner: The young talent in the NHL is the best I can remember for a long time. I hear this years draft is very deep also. Any chance the NHL gets a back on ESPN or a similar type network so we can see more of these toung players?
Jeff Gordon: Bettman went back to Versus, so the NHL will remain out of the limelight for the near term. Thanks, Gary.

Ron: Jeff, First off I'd like to thank both you and Jim very much for holding these offseason chats. I look forward toward them every week and it's very appreciated. My question is what was the real deal with Madison Hedgecock? Did he really play his way off the team or was it (as he claims)a case where he was playing hurt and taking one for the team and the Rams cut him anyway despite knowing that was the case. I've heard conflicting reports both ways and I was hoping you could clear this up for me once and for all. Thanks again Jeff!
Jeff Gordon: I talked to Madison again at the Super Bowl. Did the Rams really dislike his attitude? If so, that is ridiculous. The kid did play hurt here. For the team to cut him and keep another kid with a poor work ethic, Dominique Byrd . . . well, that is outrageous.
