BillP: Hey Jeff, what was you impression of the Nashville game Sat night? I was at the game and I was a little disappointed with their play. I thought we would come out and be more physical - didn't happen. No offensive pressure, most of the shots were harmless perimeter shots, no traffic in front of the goalie whatsoever. What did you think?
Jeff Gordon: Disappointing game, for sure. This was a great chance to step over a Western Conference rival, at least for the moment.
On the plus side, the defensive play has cleaned with Polak back on the mix and Strachan and Wagner back at Peoria.
BillP: Also I think the Blues could use a high caliber stay at home defenseman who's all about being physical and punishing the opposing team. I remember in the last draft, people had us pegged taking Luke Schenn, but I'm still happy we got Petrieangelo. But we need a player of Schenn's ilk. Do you see that void being filled next year?
Jeff Gordon: Ian Cole is supposed to be that guy. He appears to be progressing nicely, but he won't turn pro until the Blues believe he can play in the NHL.
Also, Polak is going to be a rugged Top Four guy for the long haul.
Andrew Sampson: For the Blues, wouldn't it be prudent to:
Split up McDonald & Berglund
Put Backes & Walt on the wings
Winchester on PP unit one when the opposition has a HUGE goalie a la Nashville?
Jeff Gordon: Sure, once Andy is back in stride, then he and Patrik will each anchor a scoring line. I don't mind Backes at center in the short term, but, yes, he should move to the wing -- especially if Tkachuk moves on at a trade.
I like Winchester in front of the net, but he needs to become more consistently tenacious. Lot of potential there, however.
BillP: Hey Jeff, are there any NHL cities in danger of losing their team? If so, is Canada (Winnipeg?) still the popular alternative for relocation? Or what about Kansas City with that new arena? Are they courting anybody? Thanks and Have a good week !
Jeff Gordon: Atlanta could easily lose its teams. Nashville is not solid. The Islanders could exit if a new arena isn't built. Florida isn't solid, despite having its own arena.
KC is a front burner destination, more so than Winnipeg.
OBIE 1975: Gordo-
Any rumors as to a legitimate 2B for the Cards or are we really stuck with either no experience or an experiment in terror (Shu)? Any bench help on the way?
Thanks!
Jeff Gordon: If Schumaker can become another Kelly Johnson, then the Cards will be happy. And there are plenty of infielders on the bench.
If the Cards make a move, it will be land a starting 2B if they determine Skip just can't get it done.
