karmon: Good afternoon Gordo and thanks for keeping us informed. I have two questions. 1. If you have been at ST have you seen anyone that you see as a darkhorse that might surprise us that hasn't been on the radar so to speak. 2. The signing of the Navy pitcher Harris, In you opinion is that a good singing. I know it appears he has the talent to pursue him but since he has to serve out his military obligation (5 yrs) will he really be able to come back at that level. He will be 28 yrs old and really starting from scratch. That seems to be a long shot to me. I guess the upside is that he isn't costing a lot of money now. What is your opinion.
Jeff Gordon: Justin Fiske, one of the extra lefty arms in camp, looked strong Sunday. He has an interesting delivery that ought to be tough on lefties. Whether he can get anywhere near the big leagues this year, we'll see.
The Navy pitcher is a physical specimen. If he can find the time to keep training and get some pitching in here and there, he will be worth a look down the road.
Ray: Hey Jeff:
Great signing by the Rams. Brown will anchor our O-line. I am now on board the Curry bandwagon. I was on Crabtree, but after the combine I am now sold on Curry. With the No. 2 pick I believe BPA is the best strategy. There is no clear, dominant OT in this draft. Look what has happened when we picked for need (see Tye Hill, Carriker). And recall we selected Steven Jackson at No. 24, when we really didnt have an urgent "need" for a RB, but we took him becaused he was just too good to pass up. If Detroit does not select Curry, the Rams need to grab him. Then we either grab the best Tackle that slips, or grab one of the WR that slips into Round 2 (Nicks, Heyward-Bey, Britt). Thanks for your time, your thoughts?
Jeff Gordon: There is much love for Curry at Rams Park. He could play inside or outside, which would allow the new staff to find the best way to use Witherspoon. You are right about the tackles; as this thing plays out, it seems less likely that one of this guys will be worth the second overall pick.
BrotherBri: Gordo, thanks for all you do for all of us. We do appreciate you.
Blues: Like many on this site, I have a romantic streak, one that would love to see Chris Pronger return to St. Louis to (a) take us to the playoffs this year, and (b) stay here for the rest of his career. Given that the Ducks want to drop salary, is there any way that McKee, Pietrangelo and a pick other than our first rounder could get Prongs back here?
Cards: Carpenter's outing certainly has to give us hope, as does Mather's play at 3B thus far. Assuming those two solve some of our problems, we're almost set. That same romantic streak of mine would love to see Mark Buerhle play for his hometown team. Is there any chance of sending Duncan, Pineiro and some prospects (or the "future considerations" card, meaning Wallace when he is available to be traded) to get Buerhle here? Or would you guess that a Manny-less Dodgers, offering us a reliever of value, would be the best we could hope for in exchange for Duncan?
Rams: Way to go, Billy!! Brown is a HUGE step in the right direction. And if Butler and Bartell join us, we have another great step. Lots of questions left before we leave the free agent season -- do we cut McMichael, Becht, Pisa, Hall, Leonard, or even Draft for cap savings? And if we did, who would be our next target -- a backup QB like Carr? Chris Canty to beef up the D-line? Or maybe Khalif Barnes to replace Pace and/or Barron?
Jeff Gordon: The Pronger stuff is interesting, but not if it also includes David Perron. This team needs more offensive firepower for the future, not less. Moving Pietrangelo is OK because there are so many other young D.
We got a lot of queries about Buehrle. With the Cards able to take on salary -- we didn't say willing -- that sort of deal could make sense. It would balance up the rotation nicely.
The Rams have upgraded nicely over Leckey, although tackle remains a more glaring need long-term. As for cap savings, I'm a huge McMichael fan. Don't cut him! Hall was OK last year, especially after he moved inside successfully. Draft is fine.
Tackleberry: Obviously Spagnuolo had multiple chances to see Lito Sheppard in the NFC East, so we can only assume with that asking price he would have made a push if he thought Sheppard was worthwhile. That being said, if the Rams don't get a deal done with Bartell, where does that leave them? Fans often point to the longtime void left at linebacker by Fletcher's exit, but when was the last time this team had a Pro Bowl cornerback?
Jeff Gordon: Bartell has great timing. He came free at a time when FA cornerbacks were scarce. Should the Rams overpay to keep him? That is a tough one. Ron is a solid player, but I'm not sure he deserves massive money. This team has so many needs . . .
drelboc: Hey Gordo;
When did you arrive in Jupiter? Have you had a chance to see any Spring Training games yet? What are you hearing and how does that compare to what you are seeing? Anything there to pass that is of baseball interest?
Thanks Jeff!
Jeff Gordon: Saw them play Sunday. Tough day for Skip, but he has great work ethic and a great attitude. He'll keep working through this.
Overall, this is a quiet camp. Most of the questions have already been answered. Barton made the OF battle more interesting with his two-homer, 6 RBI game, but Rasmus will get every chance to hit his way out of his early funk.
Pineiro seems to be getting over Oquendo's snub. But that will be worth keeping an eye on.
