Alan: Gordon - If the Rams draft Curry, how much of an improvement will the Rams have made on Defense in addition to the free agents they signed and the the good defensive players they kept?
Jeff Gordon: Curry would improve the Rams at the point of attack. His addition would make Witherspoon a better player, too, since Will could play to his strengths. The upgrade at safety is a big step, too. And if Carriker gets healthy, he and Long should take steps forward next season.
Don't write off Tye Hill, either. Butler's arrival will make him a better player.
Stumped Mitchell: Jeff,
Has Jacob Bell ever played tackle in his life? Also, are the Rams bring in any wr's for visits in free agency? What wr's are they interested in the 2nd/3rd round?
HAve you seen the new cartoon handiquacks?
Jeff Gordon: He has filled in there. But the return of Adam Goldberg alleviates that emergency need. The FA receiving corps is pretty picked over, save for some older guys and some guys who got in trouble. I'd like to see a big guy like Hackett added to the mix, but we'll see. The draft is anybody's guess, but, yes, there will be a pile of guys to pick from after the first round.
Buzz: Gordo,
If Marc Bulger gets his act together, how would you rate him as a potential West Coast QB? I'm speaking in terms of smarts, release and accuracy? Thanks.
Jeff Gordon: The smarts, release and accuracy are all there. But can the confident and pocket presence return? The Rams need THAT guy to come back. The tools are fine, but his overall play regressed badly.
therealdealankiel: Gordo,
Opening Day is two weeks away! Who do you think will get the lion's share of playing time at 3B while Glaus is out? Is Freese healthy and coming on? Is Mather even a lock to make the bench, much less the starting lineup? As much as I am not a Brendan Ryan fan, he may be a temporary leadoff candidate (against lefties) if Skip can't cut it at 2B and Rasmus needs to adjust to ML pitching.
Jeff Gordon: Ryan is more of a No. 9 hitter when he plays. Right now Skip is still your leadoff batter and second baseman. I love Rasmus hitting second. Freese could take a run at 3B if Mather's offensive struggle continues. And if Mather's bat never comes back this spring, he could open at Memphis while trying to get that back.
Manheim rams: With the Lions getting Julian Peterson in a trade, it looks like they may pass over Curry. The Rams need and OT, but many top teams have very good OT's that were not #1 picks. Wouldn't Curry have more of an impact this year and look for an OT with the 2nd pick?
Thanks
Jerry
Jeff Gordon: The Lions seem more likely to go tackle (J. Smith) or quarterback (Stafford) than Curry, but their contract talks with agents for the top few players could dictate the pick. If Curry is there, I'd take him and add OTs later. Goldberg's return eases some of the urgency at tackle.
