Bill: Hey Jeff, lets hypothetically say Chase Daniels continues as a ball of fire and continues to put up monster numbers, wins the Heisman and National Championship. Then on Draft day the Rams go and select Chase in the second round, would you be happy with that pick? I've always thought of him as a 4th or 5th rounder, but lately people have pushed him up to 2, labeling him as Drew Brees. And I don't know anymore, maybe his height isn't a big deal. What are your feelings on that, would you be happy if the Rams took him number 2?
Jeff Gordon: He's not a second round pick. The kid is a playmaker and a leader, but size matters. The spread offense doesn't translate well to the NFL and Chase must still prove he can gun the ball into the small windows of NFL defenses. If Oklahoma State can make life difficult for him, what would the Eagles or Giants do to him?
royearl: Don't you think it's about time Richie Incognito was cut? He's not that good and he nearly cost the Rams the game.
Jeff Gordon: Funny, but in Washington writers were wondering why some of the Redskins didn't have Richie's combativeness Sunday. At least he cares. I'd rather have to calm somebody down than have to fire him up. His loss of composure can't be excused, but this team is in no position to discard starting offensive linemen. You saw how the Rams O-line played last year when he and other starters were hurt.
Barf3: Jeff,
I know many will ask your opinion on Incignito so I won't. But as a long time fan his act is no longer tolerable to me. His need to lose control at some point during a game is simply a selfish act by him and there is no room for it on an NFL field. As a fan of this team I would rather do without him then tolerate this on going lack of class by him. The organization is sending the wrong message to us fans if they continue to allow him to play on Sundays.
Jeff Gordon: The Rams would send the wrong message to fans by losing week after week. Fans bemoan the team's lack of passion for four weeks, then want to guy a cut for going over the top during an emotional victory. The guy is a hothead and he'll have to grow up to get another contract here.
But this is not chess. It's a violent sport. The Rams have plenty of polite players. They need more "borderline trained killers," as Jerry Glanville liked to say.
John: Hi Jeff,
The Rams homepage has a picture of Bulger (currently lead picture for "top story" no. 4) that could be a poster-picture for "How Not to Throw a Football." At one time Bulger was All-Pro, Pro Bowl MVP, with one of the highest lifetime QB ratings in the NFL.
Shea, I believe, was quarterbacks coach with Saunders at KC and the two of them surely are working with Bulger's basics. Why the lack of progress? What's up?
Thanks for your time, as always.
John
Jeff Gordon: It's a process, as they say. Bulger has been something of a back-foot passer even in his best days. The Rams can work him all day in practice, but game action is another thing altogether. Bulger seems to have more zip in the no-huddle offense, which also takes away from pass pressure from the other side. I would use that scheme more often.
Mike Richards: I've been a Washington area Rams fan since I was 8 years old, I believe I still have my Pat Haden jersey somewhere. Anyway, my 12 year old son and I were being ridiculed all the way into the stadium yesterday, received dirty looks during the game as we screamed "go-go-go" like little kids on OJ's fumble return in front of a silent stunned crowd, and after the game all the back to the car. Wearing my Adam Archuleta jersey (yes, I heard a LOT of grief for wearing THAT one...lol) and he wearing his Pace jersey, it was GREAT walking out of Fedex field to my car adorned in my Rams' flag, our Rams pride flying high. I can't wait to go to work with all my Redskins coworkers.
I'm hoping I'm wrong but we may very well go 1-15 this year, but at least my son and I were there for the one win. Make me a liar Jim and make this season a remarkable turn around and bring back those glory days of the late 90's!!! Do it for Georgia's memory, the team hasn't been the same since her death. This helps erase MY memories of a 51-7 playoff loss to the Redskins here at RFK when I was in high school...today, I am PROUD to be a Rams fan!!!
Jeff Gordon: There are some more wins on this schedule. How many? We'll see, but there is still lots of work to do. It always helps when the other team makes unforced errors, as Washington did. The Rams played hard, so that's a start.
