mclicknr: I remember a time when it seemed that Isaac Bruce averaged 100 yards a game. Now he averages little more than 40 yards a game. As a reliable receiver, he seems to have been left out recently. How come his talents are being under utilized this season? It seems like we could benefit from a veteran leader, who has proven repeatedly he can get the job done?
Jeff Gordon: It's tough to say what will become of Ike this season, due to his hamstring injury. Like the other receivers, he had to be frustrated by Linehan's horizontal offense -- lot's of east-west passing instead of taking shots downfield. Now that the receiving corps is batter, Linehan doesn't have much choice but to stay conservative.

mike in atl.: hey jeff. mike in atl. bulger is supposed to come back next week, I say why let him take more hits, lets face it, this season is over, save the starters for next year, why do they recruit all of these short players, we need the 6-2 guys, what do you think of louisville qb. or ky. either one would be great, Im leaning more to braum. cant we just forfeit the remaining games, let the team heal up for next year, and a new coach, marty, marty, marty.
Jeff Gordon: Taking a QB high in the first round would cost lots of money. Had the Rams not given Marc big money, that option would be more attractive. But, yes, the Rams do need to draft somebody to groom at the position. As for the size of the QB, it would be nice if the offensive line would block and make it unnecessary to draft hulking signal-callers capable of withstanding abuse . . .

Luke in Fort Worth: Jeff,

I keep hearing how injuries are having a serious effect on the Rams production this year, and I do understand that injuries can hurt a team. However, the Cardinals also had serious injury problems this year, but yet they were able to pull themselves together and basically stay right in the thick of things until about 2 weeks left in the season. Also, look at the Blues, they have serious injury problems on their blue line right now. Yet, the Blues have started off very well.

My point with all of this is, do the Rams have any "heart"? Yes, they do have injury problems, but they should be able to fight through that as the Cards did and the Blues are doing now. Heart and desire falls on the head coach. It is their job to inspire their players and get the best out of them. I do not think that scoring 3 points in a NFL football game would be described as "best effort".
Jeff Gordon: The Cards WERE admirable for persevering through all their disasters. But just as you can't fake pitching, you can't fake blocking -- and that is where the offense is really hurting. Playing QB behind his makeshift line is dangerous.

doncee: With O line in a shambles we found out that Bulger with cracked ribs isn't the answer and pocket qback \ immobile Frerotte obviously isn't either. Until the O line is stabilized or Bulger is healthy they are going to need a more mobile Quarterback then the above. I hear Aaron Brookes is available. If the Panthers can gamble on Vinny why can't we give Brookes a shot. Too bad we let Fitz go. At least he could run to safety.
Jeff Gordon: If the beatings continue, the Rams WILL have to go out and get a QB. And, yes, Fitzpatrick is missed. I didn't think his exit was a big deal at the end of the preseason, but obviously I was wrong. And so was Linehan.

Ken (I believe the season is over): If you don't have an offensive line, don't you think the only passing should be either 3 step drops or at least fake to a runner and throw quickly. And why don't Rams Quarterbacks throw the ball away; isn't this emphasized as a tactic given the offensive line status. It seems obvious but maybe I am not a football genius.

Between Jim Haslett and Al Saunders as the next Ram's head coach, who do you like?
Jeff Gordon: I'd take Haslett. I like his overall leadership ability -- and the way his defense is playing this year under duress.

In Sunday's game, Frerotte held the ball and held the ball and held the ball. Not smart. He needed to throw balls away and live for another day. He would have thrown fewer picks by just discarding the ball when nothing was there.
