Tim: What kind off contract do you think Kerry Wood will get this offseason and will the Cards be big bidders for him?
Jeff Gordon: I'd be shocked if the Cards would gamble more than minimum salary plus bonuses on Wood, given his injury issue. And why would they want Wood to close over Perez? I imagine there will be teams willing to spend money on this project, but right-handed relief is one of the Cards' organizational strengths.

In fact, Mozeliak argues that there is no room right now for Springer. I'd argue there is always room for a reliable righty set-up guy, since his retention would put McClellan in play for the rotation.

Michael Kent: Jeff ...

With all these ex-Cards entering the free agent market (i.e., Edmonds, Eckstein, Renteria, Grudzielanek, Ponson), it makes Redbird fans wonder about who could be making a second tour of duty in St. Louis.

I think most would agree that Renteria is the best bet among the ex-Cards to come back to St. Louis, but do you think there's any chance for any of the others? Are the betting odds for Eckstein's return as good as the are for Renteria?

Thanks.
Jeff Gordon: Eckstein offers nothing at this point. He'd be OK at second base, but the Cards have plenty of OK second base. And he can't play shortstop any more. Grudzielanek would be a better choice at @B and others you mention have no value here.

donsdos: Gordo--you often mention Cassell as a young FA QB available next year. Are there any others that might fit the bill?
Jeff Gordon: Ryan Fitzpatrick of the Bengals could become a free agent, I believe. Rams fans would love him back and he will be looking for a chance to start.

Rafael Furcal: I really want the Cards to sign me I think I would be a great leodoff hitter for them and a solid shortstop. Do you think Mo and Dewitt will make a huge push to sign me? Also Orlando Hudson and me have been talking and he wants to play for the Cards to and says we would be a perfect double play duo so what about him?
Jeff Gordon: For $25 million a year for the two of them, that SS-2B combo will not fly in St. Louis. Both players have a good chance to be dramatically overpaid in their next deals.

Griff21: Ok so Oshie is out for awhile, generally ankle sprains take a few weeks to months to heal up. while JD said no call ups now, this current roster seems a little ... lacking. is it wise to try riding out this injury? shouldn't we bring bring up one of the kids or journeymen from peoria?
Jeff Gordon: The Blues have a surplus on hand. Let's see what Stastny does with his chance. I loved Porter here earlier this year. Otherwise, there are no compelling options at Peoria at this point.
