Bryan: Why do the Rams not run promotions to try to fill up the stadium and avoid a blackout? The Blues give out free food, or have had ticket promotions where the price is 10%-50% off. Why can't the Rams offer that? Is it because of the NFL revenue sharing with the gate sales, and they would be afraid to cut into their profits, rather than avoid a blackout on tv?
Jeff Gordon: It's been a while since the Rams had such a serious marketing problem. The front office did not expect an 0-8 start, so the team didn't have special promotions in place. There ought to be something the team can do to get new customers into the stadium -- this IS the NFL, after all.
J.T.: Gordo,
Do you think that if Mizzou beats KU and then wins the Big 12 title game they will be in the BCS title game? I see West Virginia moved ahead of us, and even if West Virginia loses, I'm sure that Ohio St. or someone else will move ahead of us since Mizzou gets NO respect nationally at all
Jeff Gordon: IF Mizzou beats the No. 2-ranked team in the BCS, it ought to move past West Virginia -- regardless of what the Mountaineers do to UConn. And if the Tigers still trail, then the Big 12 title game against Texas or OU would help more than a West Virginia win over Pitt. But as I wrote elsewhere on the site, you never know . . .
gar: jeff,
how do you explain the tigers only moving up 1 and wv jumping over them? i was reading the article in the PD, but it doesn't make sense to me. seems like once again tigers and tiger fans are getting the short end of the stick. your thoughts. thanks
Jeff Gordon: Obviously the computers and the voters weren't impressed with K-State, since beating them on the road meant nothing. West Virginia beat ranked Cincinnati, but it's not like the Big East has been a power conference this season.
gar: jeff,
it was nice to see the blues get a win on an emotional night honoring big Al, unlike the 2 last year with hull, and i think with Al. also this perron kid is really impressing people. he looks like he put a spark into the weight line, even though he seems like the only one to score. i also think rucinsky takes too many penalties. what do you think?
Jeff Gordon: For a smart player, yes, Rucinsky takes too many penalties. In today's NHL, you have to move your skates. In the old NHL, vets like Rucinsky got to use their sticks to keep up. That is no longer tolerated.
Paul: Gordo, do you think most MLB clubs are waiting for the results of the Mitchell report before making the big moves? Thanks for taking my question.
Jeff Gordon: No, I think the teams will plow ahead. Once one of the big FA pitchers sign, will see a bunch of signings. The A-Rod Situation held up some of the activity, such as the Cabrera trade talks. Now that Rodriguez is back in New York and the Yankees are wrapping the Rivera deal, we should see activity.
