heynow: Can you please explain the rule 5 draft? Thanks for you time. :)
Jeff Gordon: The Rule 5 draft allows teams to poach prospects from other organizations under certain conditions:

The player drafted cannot be on the other team's 40-man roster.
The player drafted has been a professional for three years (if signed at 19 or older) or four years (if signed 18 and younger).
The player must stay on the big league roster (25 men, plus disabled) of the new team for one entire season. He cannot be sent to the minors without clearing waivers or being offered back to his original team. He cannot be warehoused on the disabled list for the whole season.
(He can be sent to the minors on a injury rehab assignment, as Brian Barton was last season.)
Once the player spends a whole season on the big-league roster, as Barton did, then he is a regular member of the 40-man roster and normal rules apply.

It cost $50,000 to poach players under these circumstance. The idea is to keep teams from stockpiling prospects in the minors without giving them a chance to advance.

Tim: Im not backing up Incognito at all when I say this I think hes a completeidiot so dont get me wrong but before people judge him anymore Id like to say one thing. He has had to hear from fans all year how much him and his teamates suck and how this guy should leave town and how this guy needs to sit the bench and also how hes a loser because he nearly cost a win but showed that theres someone on that team that actually cares about winning. But everybody is so shocked when he says somthing back to the fans showing off his frutration on how no matter what stadium hes in(even the dome) hes going to get cheered against. So how exactly does that get anyone on that team motivated to play knowing your getting cheered against in your own stadium. So I just thought Id defend Richie a little even though it was an idiotic thing to say. Thanks Gordo always look forward to monday chats
Jeff Gordon: Misguided though he may be, Richie does care. Fans want to run him out of town, but he could really blossom in a different setting -- one where there is more leadership and peer policing.

Tim: Since the Braves are pretty much out of the running for Peavy do you thin the Cards might jump in? Just kind of an idea what about Ankiel Todd and McClellan for Peavy?
Jeff Gordon: Don't rule Atlanta out. There is still room for give and take there. The Braves have a shortstop to move, which really appeals to the Padres. Ankiel would be difficult to lock into a long-term deal, so I'm not sure that would interest San Diego. The Padres really have financial trouble now.

And I'd rather keep Todd and McClellan for low dollars and bet on their progress next season.

Tim: So whats going on with Bell why is he losing so much weight I mean 20 pounds since the start of the season thats not good for a lineman. Its the obvious reason why hes struggling if he can get back to 300 theres not a doubt in my mind he will be the Jacob Bell of Tennesee.
Jeff Gordon: That is one of the mysteries of the season. As it stands today, Bell is a massive free-agent bust along the lines of Drew Bennett.

Michael Gordon: Remind me why the ramsare paying Green so much. The guy was good like 6 years ago.

All the players in STL are losers and are so used to losing that they drop their heads the moment something goes wrong. And that attitude infects everyone who comes in. Most of the defense have horrible football instincts.

Finally, is tye hill still under an injury cloud or do the rams really feel that Jon Wade is a better option to be active. Dear god, talk about a bust.
Jeff Gordon: Hill is not at full speed. There is a lot of rebuilding to do there, physically and mentally. And, yes, he rates as a major bust at this point in his career.

Tim: I know you have been asked this question alot but what do you think the middle infield will look like next year? I would love to see Furcal, Lopez its definitly doable salary wise I think and a big upgrade for our offense
Jeff Gordon: Under the right circumstances, that would be a terrific offensive combination. It will be interesting to see how the market defines their value. I look for Furcal to get big offers from non-contenders, but I still see him staying with the Dodgers unless ManRam comes to his senses and takes the big LA offer.

Tim: Heres a couple scenarios on QB for next year what do you think would be the most likley for the Rams? Feel free to add on another scenario if you dont agree I think any idea would be a good one at this point

1 Sign Cassel (Hes having a good season looks like hes going to be a great starter)

2 Trade for Derek Anderson( he actually was having a Decent season this year hes worth a shot)

3 Draft Chase Daniel( let him develop work under the Center for a year or 2
hes got a cannon, great accuracy, great leader, Physical and tough, great competitor, not afraid to leave the pocket hes every thing this lousy team needs
Jeff Gordon: Daniel figures to be a back-up QB in the NFL, a change-of-pace guy. He looks like a second-day draft pick. Great leader, tough kid but he is limited as a passer. Anderson would be easy enough to get as a competitor for Bulger, assuming Marc is still here.

Cassel will command amazing money from his next team. I don't see this team winning that auction.

Stephen: Hey Gordo, I am a devote Blues fan and will be one no matter what the circumstances, and as I was taking a break from the 10 page paper I'm writing for Political Science I was taking a look at the Blues stats as they compare with the rest of the league and noticed that even though were only have a .500 record we have the second best powerplay and third best penelty kill. How do you think a team could be so medicore with such strong special teams? Also, which team in your opinon is more injury prone Rams (Pace, Jackson, and Hill) or the Blues (Johnson, Oshie, and every Goaltender) and as we know those or just a few examples.
Jeff Gordon: As La Russa would say, the Rams and Blues are tied for first on injuries. But so far the Blues are handling their issues better than the Rams have.

The Blues were getting killed at even strength until the last few games. Brad Boyes' plus-minus numbers saw it all.

Tim: How interested are the Cards in Biemel and Ohman? Who would you rather have?
Jeff Gordon: I'd prefer Ohman, but it appears Atlanta will pay what it takes to keep him.

Tackleberry: Is it fair to say that this is the most crucial off-season during the Rams tenure in St. Louis? The organization needs to have a near flawless off-season, drafting and signing the right players, deciding on a coach who is a good fit to lead this team, and installing the proper people in the front office to oversee all of this. This off-season will require some tough decisions and will need some TOUGH people to make them.

At this point, the damage is so extensive and nobody can identify the ultimate cause. It is time to take this house down to only it's studs (literally) and build from there. As a fan, I am happy to be patient as long as I see progress.
Jeff Gordon: The biggest offseason issue is ownership. If somebody with strong local ties makes a competitive bid for the franchise, that would be really good news. If the right guy (or group) doesn't step up, this franchise will continue operating in limbo. And you see how that has gone so far.

Tim: Are the Cards still interested in Orlando Hudson?
Jeff Gordon: Sure, but at the right price. There is a good chance somebody will overpay for him.

Tim: Do you see Grecco along with mabye Schuening and Anthony Davis starting next week?
Jeff Gordon: Davis just go here, so I don't see that. Maybe the rookie guard gets a look, since Incognito acted out.

Tim: If the Rams dont make Haslett the head coach next season who do you think the top candidates are for the job?
Jeff Gordon: That depends on who owns the team and who the team president. First things first.

wotownramsfan: jeff, a few weeks ago i made a comment about getting rid of everyone and rebuilding. you told me they would just go 0-16 then. Is there a difference from this team? they are god awful. it is ridiculous how bad, gutless, and heartless this team is. I am glad there was a million bear fans in the dome this sunday. Make some money rams fans and don't support this garbage on the field. Hey Chip i spend a lot of money on rams gear tickets etc. but not anymore. Trade all these hurt money grubbing bums.
Jeff Gordon: Not only would the team lose out this year, which could happen anyway, but there would be no chance next year. It's hard to five 10 to 15 decent new players in any given year. Finding 50 is impossible.

Rich: Hey Gordo,

After that stellar effort against a d-line that up until yesterday didn't have much in the way of a pass rush, do you see Haslett and company making any major changes in the o-line?

Personally Bell hasn't done anything to warrant starting - huge contract notwithstanding. Yet another former Titan free agent bust.

Cogs certainly deserves a spot on the pine for at least a game or two after his behavior before, performance during, and behavior after Sundays contest.

And although Romberg is a better snapper, I don't see him as a better blocker than Leckey.

Thanks again for letting suffering Rams fans vent.
Jeff Gordon: Not many options there. We saw Greco, Maybe Schuening is next. Goldberg and Romberg got their chances. That's it folks.

KarlPilkington: What's the real truth about Trever Miller? I feel like we are being lied to by the Cardinals front office.
Jeff Gordon: Why would you saw the Cards are lying? They have competitive offers on the table to multiple lefties, including Miller.

ToledoCard: Just wondering if you have any idea whether the Cards may have an interest in Robinson Cano? We could use a fairly cheap second baseman and the Yanks could use an outfielder. sounds like good trading partners to me. Thanks.
Jeff Gordon: Ankiel for Cano has been discussed by fans. Now that Hal Steinbrenner is running the Yankees, it'll be interesting to see how they proceed.

redbirdswin: Is Will Ohman still a possibility for the Cardinals? I know the Braves made him an offer - just wondering if it is more than what the Cards are willing to give him.
Jeff Gordon: Ohman praised the offer, but indicated he wouldn't sign until December in case somebody blew him out of the water. Even if the Cards lock up Miller, as expected, the team will need one more guy with better credentials.

redbirdswin: Seems more and more likely that Renteria will be the SS target the Cards will seek - unless the Braves are willing to deal Escobar. How do you see the 2B hole being filled? Orlando Hudson? Felipe Lopez? No takers for Kennedy and he stays?
Jeff Gordon: I don't see Kennedy staying. He wants out and La Russa wants him out, so the Cards will move him even if it means eating his salary.

larman3: Why doesn't the Cards take a look at Matt Thornton in Chicago?
Jeff Gordon: He had a great year last year, which is why you would assume Chicago will keep him. He is under contract for modest money and the club holds options on him through 2011. The White Sox would be dumb to move him.

steve conti: This is not an NFL caliber football team in any phase of offence, defense or special teams. There was a 3 week mirage where the Rams beat Wash and Dallas and played well in a close loss to the Patriots. Other than that what can you say? not much. I don't know whether a new coaching staff will help immediately either. This group is just not very good.
Jeff Gordon: This is not a good team, but it is good enough to win some games, as we saw briefly. There are better players here than you would think from watching them play. That is the hard part.

Rampage88: How am I supposed to cheer for the Rams when they give Incognito a paycheck? I can deal with losing, but when you lose and pay idiots like him that is when you lose all respect. Despite what some people say about his “talent” all I see is a hotheaded fool whose stupidity far outweighs whatever he does on the field. He calls the fans out when his team is 2-9, gets penalties that he has no business getting (like the one in Washington that should have lost us the game), gives the finger to a cameraman on Friday at Rams Park, and taunts fans while leaving the field after getting his butt kicked all day. This guy makes Alex Barron look smart. As Mike Singeltary would say, “Can’t win with them”. If the Rams knew anything about how to run a classy organization this guy would be cut today.
Jeff Gordon: That's to say . . . and then, if he settles down elsewhere, fans will put him on the long list of players who did better elsewhere.

Zac, Humboldt, TN: Gordo,

Let's not forgvet about Josh Phelps here. He came up and did a good job off the bench when he could. He has played first base most of his life, but could he be a everyday outfielder or just a backup for Big Al? I would rather have his bat in the lineup than Chris Duncan. I like Phelps and he could make some things happen if they give him the chance I believe.
Jeff Gordon: Phelps is out the door. He signed with the Giants. Too bad he didn't get a longer look last season.

Brent in Iowa: A lot of fans are getting impatient for Mo and Cardinals management to do something. Do you have any inclination that they are close to pulling the trigger on anything (besides Trever Miller :)? Though its not fun to wait, it is probably smart to not move too swiftly until some other things play out, but the Cards have enough holes to fill that it seems like something should be happening soon1
Jeff Gordon: Notice, though, that the free-agent marketplace has slowed to a crawl. Not even the Sabathia deal has gone down. Agents and GMs are shadow boxing right now.

Darryl Swint, P-D MoJo: Gordo,

With reports surfacing that Andy Reid discussed with Eagles brass benching McNabb for at least a week, I'm smelling a trade of McNabb at season's end and then a serious off-season courting of the Patriots' soon-to-be free agent QB Matt Cassel. His play this season has raised eyebrows around the league and he most certainly would choose a starting job next season than carry Tom Brady's clipboard again. QB-starved teams are taking notice and I guess this also means Donovan might end up in Detroit. (Yikes!) What do you think?
Jeff Gordon: McNabb would fit better with a contender. And Cassel will get to pick his spot. The Rams owe Bulger significant guaranteed money for next season, so he could still have a prominent place on the team. I'd like to see the Rams get a guy like Anderson or Leftwich, somebody hungry to compete for the starting job.

Jim Hency: In your opinion, why is there so much demand for MO to go for a high impact bat (which most usually is an outfielder) when our most pressing need is the bull pen upgrade, especially in the late innings. I do agree we have a real need up the middle but other than that I think we compete very well. Certainly another established starter would help but I don't even think that is a glaring need. If it is, it will show it's head rather early in the year, and maybe even in spring training, which then could trigger a trade for some help where needed, with the excess of outfielders that we have. Your comment plaese.
Jeff Gordon: I agree with you, but Tony pines for somebody to fit the MV3 mold and fans want a sexy outfield addition -- even though the outfield was hugely productive last year. If the Cards can add a veteran starter, show up the bullpen, add better bats at SS and 2B AND get an all-star outfielder, then great. But I'm with you. Fix the other stuff first.

RJ: Gordo:

Is Miller really a good pick-up? With a 4.15 ERA, he doesn't put a lot of confidence in STL fans. What else are you hearing about possibilities? Obviously there isn't anything good to discuss about Bernie's clowns...
Jeff Gordon: Yeah, the Rams had that coming from Miklasz. What a mess. Miller is strictly a lefty specialist to replace Villone. The Cards would still need to add somebody better from the left side.

Gary: Hi Gordo,

What is the story on Trevor Millor and the Cardinals search for a a couple of left handed relievers?

Do you think the Cardinals are really interested in the LA's Penney?

And do you think the Caridnals will trade an outfielder or two?
Jeff Gordon: The Cards will have to trade an OF or two because there is no room for them all, either here or at Memphis. Brad is an interesting case, but any deal there would have to protect the Cards from additional shoulder trouble. He really lost pop last seasaon. As for the lefties, they keep shoring up that side of the bullpen, step by step.

dave cobler: Hey Gordo;

Do you think the walls in the house that the Cards are trying to remodel will have the studs nailed up through some trades over the "winter meetings"? Just how active do you think Mo will be at those meetings?

Thank you Jeff!
Jeff Gordon: He'll be active because he has to address both his surpluses and shortcomings. Things can't stay the way they are. And he has some decent chips to trade.

slap shot: Gordo,
Steve Regier, Cam Paddock, Brad Winchester and B. J. Crombeen have all been a more than pleasant surprise since they arrived on the Blues' scene. All four have added size, muscle, speed, and a willingness to "go to the net". Their desire to succeed and help the team in doing so, has provided a much needed breath of fresh air for a team that had been reeling due to a multitude of injuries. Our record in the past 4 games speaks for itself. When our injured players return, there will be some tough decisions to make. It's nice to know that we have some depth in the organization.
Jeff Gordon: Give the hockey operation credit for finding the right sort of role players to add depth. These guys have embraced a more defensive style that has helped the Blues stabilize. There are a bunch of players glad to be out of the AHL for the time being. They don't want to go back.

Glenn Turner: Missouri Basketball shows signs of real life. We have a nice group of freshman and two more due to arrive next year. Looks like coach will have his 8-11 athletes needed to play his aggressive style of play. Should be fun to watch. Do you think Missouri has a chance to go to the dance this year?
Jeff Gordon: I'm more optimistic now. The Big 12 isn't as deep as it usually is and the experience of Carroll and Lyons up front will really make a difference. That win over USC will really help their postseason credentials.

Glenn Turner: The Blues are at 500. They have had several killer injuries but are hanging tough for now. I believe that the youth and injuries will make it tough to make the playoffs this year. Next year looks to be promising but this team is very young. In all honesty, is the 2010-2011 year a more realistic time frame for this team to be really good?

Look for some trade deadline deals to bring in more draft picks this year?
Jeff Gordon: Maybe one, but this wants to reach the playoffs before 2010-11. Adding Erik Johnson and Lars Eller next season ought to really help.

dasch: Jeff,
After witnessing 2 of the 3 last Rams games live I've got to say that I am just plain embarrassed. I am embarrassed by 1. the lack of emotion and physicallity of play on the field and 2. by ram's "fans" selling tickets to opposing fans. I understand that #1 directly causes #2, but this is rediculous! Now that the Ram's are getting blown out every game and are not even competitive, do you still think Haslett deserves a free ride and for the Rosenblums to all but give him the position after interviewing a few candidates? I for one think that Chip needs to interview EVERY available and deserving candidate possible and make the best decision after that. Haslett should not just get a free go at the head coaching position, what has he done ever as a coordinator here that would make us think that he can turn this humiliating team around?
Jeff Gordon: Do you really blame the fans? The Rams followed a 3-13 season with 2-9 and sinking. They don't seem to care, so why should the fans?

slap shot: Gordo,
Any inkling as to what the "hangup" may be in the Trever Miller negotiations? It would seem that something happened at the very last minute when everything else was "in place" and agreed upon by all parties. Is Miller's agent "not-to-be-trusted"?
Jeff Gordon: Stay tuned to what Goold and the Commish have to say about that. I don't know what's up.

Glenn Turner: Haslett is a good guy and does deserve a shot at a head coaching position. However, the Rams need to clean house in the front office and coaching staff and player roster in an demonstrative manner. I hope ownership takes decisive action. What big name GM types do see see available to rebuild this mess?
Jeff Gordon: Ron Wolf is one obvious example. There are plenty of good No. 2 guys out there as well, looking to move, and old-schoolers like Marty Schottenheimer waiting around for a call.

marvin Slay: I'll repeat a message I sent last week In reference to Jim Haslett as to what he might be asking his players this morning ...

"Does anybody here know how to play this here game?"...Casey Stengel
Jeff Gordon: The answer, it seems, is no.

slap shot: Gordo,
I don't see any big free agent signings in baseball as yet. Just an offer or two but no signings. Seems a bit unusual, looking at the past several years. Has the economy got the GMs playing it cozy? Do you think the emphasis will be on more trades instead? Do you anticipate any movement before the December GM meetings in Las Vegas? And, what do you hear from the Cardinals' braintrust?
Jeff Gordon: The economy will cause teams outside of the big markets to move more carefully. So the market hasn't settled yet. Also, some teams are waiting so as not to give up a compensatory pick for signing a Type A free agent.

dale: what is up with miller ,second thoughts. Are they going to do something to make a impact on the ballclub,i am starting to wonder.
Jeff Gordon: Have you noticed that very few other free agents have signed yet? That is just how the market is this year.

SCOTT RHEIN: Hello Jeff, and Thank You for taking my questions.
1. I was watching Fridays game and I can not believe they allowed that goal against Manny. I understand if the deffence bumped the player into him. I did not look that way to me. What is your take on this? I think the league needs to protect its goalies! With the recent rash of top goalies going down. The league needs to do more!
2. I really like the fact that we are having a lot of players from Peoria get some playing time. I think this will give the Blues a good look at what they got so we can make have some choices this summer. That are your thoughts on the performance of the junior guys this year?
Once again, Thank You for your time.
Scott
Jeff Gordon: I get tired of all the goaltender interference. The new rules enforcement makes it hard to clear those guys out without taking a penalty. The league wants more scoring, so they let those guys park there. Then he fall on the netminder, Kypreos-like, when they get bumped.

In the old days, that would not fly.

eddog: NOW you stlouis fans know what us LA fans went through here in LA with this team and it's owner. We loved your RAMS but got tired of the owner not trying to put a competative team on the field.Thats why towards the later years in LA you would not see any support for them. You could tell that you stlouis fan's are going through same thing we went through but even worse because there alot of bears fan that i saw in the stands. I thought it was a home game? But help is on it.s way there gonna sell the team and bring them back home to LA were they belong. GO RAMS
Jeff Gordon: Build a stadium in LA and you might get a team. A lot of other teams would love to move to that market, if there was a proper stadium.

manontheedge: with Pujols' contract coming to an end in a couple years, are the Cardinals going to give Pujols the approximately 10 year / 200 - 250 million that he could get on the open market? Any talk of an extension THIS offseason?
Jeff Gordon: Ten more years, locking him up to 2021? Not likely.

manontheedge: are the Cardinals basing trading Ludwick or Ankiel on the chance that they can sign a veteran, run producing outfielder? If they get sign someone like Ibanez, should we expect to hear Ludwick or Ankiel leaving soon after?
Jeff Gordon: That would be a big step back. The Cards would trade an outfielder to make room for Rasmus and/or Duncan.

Xavier Peladeau: Will Paul Kariya play tuesday against Nashville ?
Jeff Gordon: He seems close . . . but he has been close for 10 days now. I'll believe he is healed when I see him in the lineup.

mightymike105: Gordo what are the odds of these individuals good or bad returning next season? Haslett, Holt, Pace and Bennett. Also do u think MU's performance this past week in basketball is a good sign of a possible return to the NCAA's March Madness? Thanks
Jeff Gordon: All four Rams names you mentioned could be gone. Pace would have the best chance to stay for one more year, as a bridge.

Mizzou has lots of heavy lifting to get back to the NCAA Tournament, but beating a ranked team at a neutral site was a nice start. That is a much-improved team.

Steve: Jeff,

Last week someone mentioned trying to trades with the Yankees for Cano and one of thier younger pitchers. Anderson, and Ankiel seems like the two that might be most interetsing to start with.

What do you think it would take to get Cano, and say Hughs?
Jeff Gordon: The Yankees need a corner outfielder, but I'm sure they are in any position to move young pitching. All their FA offers have gone nowhere, so far.

Kevin: Jeff,

Thanks for doing this Q & A session!

Has the MLB League Office initiated a slowed down pace, perhaps to watch the economics, for the FA signings and trades this winter? I know they have to approve these things but are they also holding up the process just a bit (i.e the Miller deal and others) for more than just for parity?

Thanks,
Kevin
Jeff Gordon: There is no orchestration. Teams are looking at big revenue hits in this economy. Once the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Mets and Angels break through with some deals, the other dominoes will fall.

cracengl: Before the Rams came to St. Louis, the KC Chiefs were my favorite team. Maybe I'll switch back. The reason being is that even though those guys consistantly get the crap kicked out of them, from week to week, they never lay down. You can see the competitive fire in them. They are not the best team, but they are a "team." That's all I ask for as a fan. I suspect that's all anyone can ask for. Sure, effort is not going to satiate you forever; but effort definetly helps get you through a few rebuilding years. I guess that's the rub. The Chiefs are obviously rebuilding. I don't know what the Rams are doing, other than running around in circles chasing their collective tail.
Jeff Gordon: Can't argue at all.

sltest: Last year the blues had lots of problems including stretches of uninspired play. However they seemed to refuse to call up anybody from Peoria, even to get an injection of possibly short lived spirit from players fighting for their professional careers. This year they dip down to Peoria and get a few points but presumably only due to injuries.

Murray seems to want his veterans to carry the load, but when they weren’t he didn’t adjust. Now he is forced to by injuries. If the injuries subside and the blues go on a losing streak, do you think Murray goes back to the same formula that didn’t work last year? Doesn’t that indicate a flaw in his coaching?
Jeff Gordon: Murray needs veterans to play well, like any coach. The kids have talent, but you can't expect them to drive the team over the 82-game marathon. I liked the way the veterans responded at the start of the season, before all the injuries hit. I think that was a very good sign for Andy's regime.

The current call-ups are hungry, but their limitation will become apparent soon enough.

old cowboy: Gordo, So at this point this Rams team has defined itself. Are there any "Bret Hull" type players that might come forward with an honest, objective evaluation? I understand some players aren't good enough but there are plenty who have just quit. How do we as fans know the difference?
Jeff Gordon: It IS hard to tell. You won't know until you see these guys in a different atmosphere, either here or with another team. I suspect most of these guys would look a LOT better elsewhere.

sltest: Is Jungland down in Peoria still just so the Blues can see what they have in Wywiotka and Wagner? It seems hard to believe they can’t improve on Weaver?
Jeff Gordon: I don't mind Weaver, despite his lack of size and flashiness. Wagner is struggling, though, and could be replaced. The Blues didn't want to bring up Junland until there was playing time for him.

Tim: Whats the big deal with Escobar why is everyone so high on him? It looked like he had a decent season but I dont think hes worth giving up Ludwick for.
Jeff Gordon: Good-hitting outfielders are common. Good-hitting shortstops . . . not so much.

TUG MAGRAW: Hey Gordo,

I am a commission salesman. I don't perform I don't get paid. The Rams should do the same thing. You don't perform you don't get paid. It is too easy for these million dollar brats to go through the motions or let an "injury" keep them on the sidelines and still get paid. The season is over so who cares. And then to criticize the fans for not showing up? When since the New England game have the Rams shown up? Or cared?
Jeff Gordon: Can't argue with that.

joie: Please explain to me how Mo lost out on 29 year old Jeremy Affeldt to the Giants and instead goes after mid to late 30 year old pitchers in Miller and Rhodes maybe I'm naive but a 29 y o pitcher makes more sense to me than someone near the end of their career
Jeff Gordon: I'd rather have him, too. Perhaps the fact his family lives in Spokane had a lot to do with it. That is a tough commute from here.

ballhawk32: Jeff:
What is the deal with Steven Jackson? Is this guy truly hurt, or is this the case of star athlete with fat contract not willing to gut it out on a bad team behind a sorry offensive line? I see Clinton Portis gutting it out every week with a badly sprained knee, and Jackson's now missed four games with a thigh strain.
Jeff Gordon: He tried to play hurt once, aggravated the injury and now it could really turn into a mess. I needle him for being hurt all the time, but this can be a serious injury. Once blood collects in that tissue, then there are big problems.

Jeepster: Jeff: I'm not trying to be rude with this question but does John Mozeliak actually know how to perform the job of General Manager? I understand there's a lot more to it than what the public perceives but the Trever Miller deal indicates to a lot of the fans I've spoken to that he's unable to accomplish some of the most minor of signings. Also, from what you can tell, is this deal still essentially completed aside from ironing out the language of the contract?
Jeff Gordon: If he couldn't do his job, how could he deal the battered Rolen for the outstanding Troy Glaus -- while getting Glaus to exercise another year on his contract?

How could he sign Kyle Lohse to a bargain free agent deal, then extend him at a fair price?
How could he swipe Brian Barton from the Indians as a Rule 5 pick-up?
How could he move Edmonds for a blue-chip third-base prospect, David Freese?

He has already made a ton of good moves as GM.

Brian: What does Richie not so Icognito's contract look like (how many years)? I can't believe this guy. If you were Haslett what would you do about his antics from yesterday?
Jeff Gordon: He's got another year on his contract. Sitting him for a game could be a good idea, especially since the team could use a look at rookie Roy Schuening to see what it there.

Ken: The debacle continues. The responsible parties, Zygmut and Shaw will soon be gone(I hope). Martz is gone; he was in part at fault for some of these terrible draft picks.

Assuming Haslett is not retained who is available for the coaching job?

Ken

PS I can't watch the RAMS any more. It is too depressing. I read your paper. Since you have too, how hard is it to watch?
Jeff Gordon: There are zillion candidates, from unemployed experienced guys like Jim Fassel and Marty Schottenheimer to a legion of coordinators like Rex Ryan and Steve Spagnulo -- a guy who, like Bill Cowher, can afford to be very picky.

Brian: Gordo,

Have you ever been to a Rams practice? My question is a 2-parter. First, do they actually practice or do they just show up on game day, and secondly do they look this horrible in practice?

I hope every Rams fan boycotts the remaining home games to send an absolute message. I am tired of wasting away my Sunday's with these bums.
Jeff Gordon: They practice, yes, and they always look OK in practice. Haslett has seldom complained about their work in practice.

Adam: I think the real reason why the Rams have been awful the past couple years is because they are no longer wearing the gold pants. Those most of enabled them with the ability to try hard in football games.
Jeff Gordon: Good one.

gary357: What are the chances Berlin gets some playing time in the next few weeks? I figure might as well give him a shot at starting at this point!
Jeff Gordon: Given the beating the veteran guys are taking, I would assume we'll see him again. I can't of one reason to play Green again.

Joel from Brimfield, IL: I think the minor league lefties we got in Ian Ostlund and Charlie Manning will do a better job than Arthur Rhodes or Trevor Miller would, what do you think? Do you think we should go after those two anyway, just for their experience over Ostlund and Manning?
Jeff Gordon: The other guys were minor pick-ups, depth guys. Miller would be a specialist and the Cards still need one more strong lefty for later innings.

LaughingLion: Yesterday someone mentioned the idea of moving Chris Long back to linebacker. I had been thinking along similar terms, but not about Long, about Carriker. He hasn't been able to make an impact on the interior line, and they don't think of him as an end. He might not be as mobile as some LBs, but at 6'6" 295 he'd certainly be larger than most. He might be able to play as an 'up' linebacker in a 3-4 alignment, halfway between LB and defensive lineman. What do you think?
Jeff Gordon: Long forced a fumble yesterday and is having pretty solid rookie year. This team can always draft linebackers. It needs DEs, especially with Little at the end.

alrammer: Haslett has got to do something today if he wants to keep his job. I have lost all respect for him with how the players are acting. If he doesn't release Incognito and then bench 5 or 6 starters then you need to get rid of Haslett now.
Chip it's your team and the team is now a reflection of you. So you need to make sure something happens. The fans have turned and waiting until the end of the year will be to late. I keep hearing the players are this bad but they aren't, they just don't care and Haslett looks like an idiot saying the effort is there. We aren't that stupid. A lot of these same players will end up playing elsewhere so they do have some talent.
All the fans want right now is effort! I think I could go down to a fitness club and get a better line than what we're seeing.
Bulger - Done
Incognito - Gone
Line coach - Out of here(bring back Hani)
Linebackers - Disgrace
Haslett - Lost Respect
Jackson - Only interested in Steven(Bring in a younger talent and you'll see Jeckson actually play)
Green - Retire
Defensive Backs - Tackle or leave
Niedemeyer - Dead!

Somebody with some gonads needs to take over this team. Maybe the team wouldn't win but you put somebody like Parcells in charge and I guarantee you this wouldn't be going on. Haslett take off your skirt and do something about this team today!
Jeff Gordon: Haslett has fined Richie. His next step would be to sit him out a game. If he releases him, then Richie goes somewhere else and has an excellent chance to become a real good player.

ghopp: I wonder if the '08 Rams are a fit subject for a segment on HBO's Real Sports? It's probably common in pro sports that many teams just collectively mark time, cash the checks, and put out a minimal effort. The fraternity among pro athletes, however, seems to agree that consistent, indifferent effort should at least be masked way more than the Rams are doing. Does the degree of their apathy make them a sports story? Have they gotten some quiet criticism from other NFL players for tarnishing the concept of pro athlete as someone who at least cares enough to try? Is it just a lack of team leaders? Is it a legacy of Scott Linehan? How naked does their million-dollar lack of effort need to be before it becomes a national story?
Jeff Gordon: Man, this is just one more injury-riddled team in disarray. It happens all the time. Doesn't make it stink less for St. Louis, but there is nothing unusual about this franchise. Stuff happens.

When it goes on forever, like with the Lions, then it is a story.

Nick123: Hi Gordo, this isn't a question, but the only way I see out of this mess. Chip Rosenbloom and his sister (her name escapes me), need to drive up to Bill Cowher's house with a dump truck full of money and an RV. They need to tell him they are going to camp out in front of his house in the RV until Bill sign's a six year coaching deal with the Rams. Of course Bill would be given ALL of the authority to do whatever he wants.
Jeff Gordon: Right, and what would Chip tell Bill about the ownership future of the team? Bill will choose his next employer on quality of ownership and team management. Chip has a tough sell there.

Maybe the next owner will have a chance to make a home-run hire.

SoundwaveSTL: Jeff

So how was your weekend? I really have nothing to say about yesterday's game, I'm trying to forget it even happened. So how about that Giants and Cardinals game, that was pretty exciting I wish we could have games as exciting at that. So how many days until baseball season begins?

Thanks as always

-SoundwaveSTL
Jeff Gordon: The Gridbirds fought the good fight. Kurt still looks like the MVP to me.

deebox: Hey Gordo iam back again with my wisdom, i think mo is listening to much to the public. I think he needs to go on and sign lopaz for short stop and let tyler green play second and go get a couple of left hand pitchers. And move on bring up jesse todd and let him get some major league expirence. And if Larusso or Duncan don;t like it they can move on.
Jeff Gordon: Lopes can't play short and Greene would offer much less offense than the committee that played the spot last year.

virginiatom: I like your choice of Rex Ryan for coach next year. He has done a remarkable job as the Ravens D coordinator for a long time and has good pedigree. Do you think Chip will take a good look at him? Also would you give Bulger a shot at the job next year or make a run at Cassell?
Jeff Gordon: The Rams can take a run at Matt, but they can't afford to pay him AND Bulger. Letting Bulger go is possible, but there are easier cuts to make, cap-wise, among all the battered and underperforming veterans.

I would draft a QB in the middle of the draft and bring in another starter-caliber stuck in a back-up role elsewhere, like Anderson or Leftwich.

swan: I don't think the Rams are the worst ever. Especially with teams like Detroit and Kansas City in the league this year. The players play with no heart. Nobody is stepping up to be a leader either. This franchise since being in Saint Louis has not taken care of the leaders. They pushed Dick Vermeil out after winning a Superbowl for Mike Martz. We let Lovie Smith go to Chicago when he should have been our next head Coach. Then, the original ICON Isaac Bruce was let go. He should have retired a Ram. People blamed everything on Warner and we let him go. People don't know who to blame for this one. I put it squarely on the front office. We have no talent. Then fools like Incognito blame the fans. Seriously, I love football. I love the Rams, but I'm not spending $100 on a ticket to see guys show no heart. I haven't seen anyone get upset this year. After the rear end kickings they have got, not one person has blown up about it? Please. Get P*ssed off. These guys make millions of dollars to play a game. I don't make anywhere near that. If I performed like them I would be on the street and up to my neck in bills. My boss wouldn't tolerate it.
Jeff Gordon: Who, exactly, pushed Vermeil out?

The reality is, with this team, the Rams are in trouble because so many veterans were rewarded (Bulger, Holt, Pace, Little, Tinoisamoa, Jackson) with big deals and then either got hurt or failed.

BGCARDFAN: Jeff, If it's true the Cards have considered trading Ludwick, does that also include an extension for Ankiel? Seems like that would be a natural step.... or is Ankiel the bait?

I guess relatively the same question on Glaus. He's a FA to be with kids on the horizon... what's in the Cards for him, trade, trade at the deadline, or ride him out for draft pics?

You would think the Cards have addressed this internally and the answers would be key to how they proceed this off-season.

Thanks
Jeff Gordon: I'd ride out Glaus and either deal Ankiel now or extend him. I'd keep Ludwick's RH bat and deal Schumaker, if Ankiel stays.

Tank: Hey Gordo, any word on how Junland is doing and can we expect to see him in a Blues uniform any time soon?
Jeff Gordon: He had a great start at Peoria, but we won't see him here as the No. 7 defenseman. He would have to have a spot in the lineup. I would expect to see him get his turn in the mix. He is one reason why Alex went back to juniors.

Jeepster: Jeff: Why is the Cardinal's front office (especially Mozeliak) hands off for the press of St. Louis to vet but the Rams and Blues seem to be more than fair game? What's transpired on this Cardinal team since the trading deadline of last season is now beyond ridiculous and yet Mozeliak is still being portrayed as some sort of wunderkind. We're tired of hearing about Glaus for Rolen trade and the signing of Lohse as this guy's high water marks. He was forced to make both of those deals and besides those specific deals, he's done nothing pro-active to improve the club, nothing. He seems to be flying by the seat of his pants while learning on the job and it's now become embarassing as evidenced by the Trever Miller botch job.
Jeff Gordon: Are you nuts? Really, seriously, are you absolutely insane? You're killing a guy for the 2009 season months before it starts.

The progress of the farm system on Mozeliak's watch and the success on the international signing front have been duly noted by experts within the game. Credit Mozeliak's work for the graduation of pitchers like McClellan, Perez and Motte, the sort of hurlers this organization didn't develop in any number before the farm system was overhauled.

People will rant and rave until that progress pays bigger dividends, but Mozeliak tunes out that noise and continues to build.

The Rams take heat because they went 3-13 and 2-9 the last two seasons. Big difference. I think Davidson has done nice work, as Mozeliak has, but the plan he was asked to execute takes time. Same with the Cards.

UtahCardsFan: Do you think the Cards need to make a raltively big trade or free agent signing just to improve fan support? In reality, if all the "ifs" fell the right way, next year's Cards could be this year's Devil Rays.
Jeff Gordon: Fans cry all day long on the internet, but they will be back in force next season, economy permitting. They want to see a consistently competitive product. They deserve it, with the way they support the team. And I expect they will get it.

Jake Coffman: With the Rams doomed outlook for this season in conjunction with the what is going on in Philly with the Eagles (McNabb, and Coach Reid) is there a possible connection in some move being made for next off-season involving both teams?
Jeff Gordon: McNabb needs to go to another contender and play like Jeff Garcia. The Rams need another QB in his prime to push Bulger.

duane: hi do you think the cards will make any major moves? thank you duane
Jeff Gordon: Yes. Remember, it is November, not April.

hbb: JEFF,

If there is anything to be positive about, its the fact that there are still people who spend time and money watching this team and offering insight about how to improve. Quite frankly, this team is so bad it is amazing that anyone cares. I remember the days of no football in St. Louis and I watch these clowns every Sunday hoping for some glimpse of the competitiveness that we once had. However, this is getting harder to do. One thing that would help right now would be for someone to to take a stand and start playing with passion or firing those who do not.
Jeff Gordon: I feel your pain.

therealdealankiel: Gordo,

Why is MO so adamant about adding situational lefties? IF we get the Miller deal done, why still focus on adding more when we have glaring holes in the middle infield and possibly the starting rotation? We are talking about SITUATIONAL LEFTIES...the guy is going to pitch 1/3 or 2/3 of an inning per game AT MOST. Why not put that money toward a guy that plays 9 innings 140-150 games a year?
Jeff Gordon: He went after lefties first because they have been signing the quickest, due to the scarcity. There are many months to address all the other needs.

Jim Otto: As die hard Rams fans, just how much longer mustwe endure Alex Barron & baby Incognito on this team?????????? Barron is the most penalized player in the entire NFL, AND Incognito DOES NOT CARE about being part of a winning team just as long as he is paid. Just look at his past history in his college days.
You want fans to be there and support you, then get off your "differentials" and actually show some effort on the playing field!!!!
Jeff Gordon: Again, I feel your pain.

Brett G.: Even with the loss to the eventual tourney champ Xavier, who they should have beat, MU hoops could surprise some folks this year. Reading the KC Star Saturday morning out on my side of the state, you would've expected USC to run all over them. Given ZERO chance to win! That's why most of us call it the KU Star...... Anyways, I'm thinking MAYBE a Top 5 finish in the Big XII? There are some loaded teams, but now that Anderson has his people in, and Quin's are out, could/should we expect an "out of nowhere" season, kinda like football last year? Not saying #1 ranking, but Tourney entry with a decent run?
Jeff Gordon: This looks like a transition year for the conference and having two seniors up front, with skill and toughness, gives Mizzou a shot to win some road games for a change. That was a big step against USC.

stash1: With the dome not up to lease standards, no plans for a new stadium and a dwindling fan base (we don't even care enough to boo anymore)do you see the Rams staying in St.Louis beyond 2010 or 2015?
Jeff Gordon: If the team attracts a new owner with local ties, then yes.

Griff21: Do you know if any injured blues will be in the next game? if so which of the 'new guys' will be sitting? There seems to be chemistry and the guys want it right now, hope murray doesn't mess too much with the lines.
Jeff Gordon: I'd expect to see the same group. Only Kariya was close to returning and all his setbacks make you wonder.

therealdealankiel: Gordo,

It looks like the market for SS and 2B is about to get STUPID if it hasn't already. $48/4 for Furcal in Oakland? The Mets making the offer for Furcal to play 2B? Escobar being the centerpiece for Peavy? Jeez, the Orioles are even considering Cesar Izturis their top option! Cleveland appears to be jumping in on Hudson, who will certainly get $10 million per.

If these are the competitors price tags, we were out of the bidding in May. But I'm also worried that with these being the prices for FA's, the trade route will be even more steep to get an Escobar, Hardy, etc. Any gut feeling on Mo's plan? I'd rather see Brendan Ryan at SS than Bobby Crosby...
Jeff Gordon: If Furcal played second base, that would really waste his arm. I've got to believe he would rather play short and there are lots of teams willing to give him that look.

Trading is a real possibility, for the reasons you mentioned.

handsome jimmy: Gordo, while looking for a silver lining, I came up with one positive thought. The Rams are not playing on Thanksgiving so our holiday will not be ruined by having to watch them roll over and lay down against mediocre competition either live or or TV. Hey, at least we have that going for us. Happy Thanksgiving!
Jeff Gordon: Enjoy the Lions game!

Ramstorm: Gordo: do you see Chip Rosenbloom making some sort of public announcement via press conference on the team's plans to make an attempt at turning this train wreck around?

A good start at least to placate and salvage some of the remaining fan base would be to announce the resignations of Zygmhut and Shaw, and that the Rams ownership will be seeking a quality football-background GM (no attorneys or accountants!)

Or do you think our Hollywood-mentality ownership lacks the fortitude to apologize to the fans and make moves to right the ship?
Jeff Gordon: If Chips opts to keep the team for another year or two, he will make the changes needed. He's a smart guy.

Barf3: Jeff,

There is no sense of addressing the same thing over and over with the Rams every week so this is it for me for the year. For many of us we have lost interest like never before and must see significant changes before we come back. It's not just the won/loss record because many of us have stayed true through difficult seasons. For me its the lack of character on Sundays by so many of the veterans that has never been seen at the level that it is now.

The Bulger's and Igocnito's must go for us to want to spend money again on this team either at home, on the road, or even with the NFL Sunday ticket. I know for me the annual trip to St. Louis is not happening as well as the trip to Arizona is cancelled. Sunday ticket is cancelled also. This is the message this ownership group needs to hear. And yes we as fans know what the ramifications are in regards to the salary cap if these players are let go. And yes we know what type of team we will have for the next year or two but the message is we don't care. If these veterans come back then what you are saying is as an organzation you don't care about us the fans. We gave this group another year and look what they gave us in return.

Jeff thanks for your time every week and happy holidays. I'm using the money that I save in not spending it on this team on SJ Sharks hockey who define what veteran leadership should be on a professional team.
Jeff Gordon: I'm a big fan of the Sharks too. Nice job out there.

therealdealankiel: Gordo,

You have to have a gut feel for the players since you and your associates spend time with them. I know he says it's part of the business, but is Ryan Ludwick disenchanted with St. Louis putting him out there as trade bait? Ryan seems to be a "real" guy, all about playing hard and winning. Do you see these rumors affecting his play next season, if he is indeed with the Cards? We can't afford to have anything less than 30/90 from him if we want to give Albert any type of protection.
Jeff Gordon: Since he is a long way from getting his real big payday, Ludwick needs to stay focused on the task at hand. If he is offended to be offered around, then he needs to channel that on the field. If he sulks, then it turns out he wasn't a building block after all. The Cards gave this guy a chance no other team would. He can't forget that.

Wayland: Mizzou basketball team is looking alot better this year. We just might make the NCAA tourney this year.
Jeff Gordon: It could happen, but there is a lot of work left. A lot.

mlobrien102: Do I understand that Eckstein and Grudzelanek are free agents? Seems to me they did a great job while the club allowed them to remain.
Jeff Gordon: Eckstein is about done, certainly as shortstop. Grudzielanek I wouldn't mind.

TennCardfan: Jeff; re: 2B - Hudson too expensive, starting downside of career, Roberts too expensive to acquire, Uggla and Lopez can hit, but can't field.

Adam Kennedy fielded very well last year (better than Hudson). He'll be in the last year of his contract, when many players (See Drew, J.D.) play their best. Should the Cardinals just keep him and go hard after Furcal to play SS?
Jeff Gordon: Adam doesn't want to be here and Tony doesn't want him. So, no.

Encino: Just because SJ and other Rams' running backs run into a stone wall for little or no gain almost every time they are given the ball, does that make them bad football players? Just because Bulger is in constant fear for his health back there, and his mediocre play reflects that fear, does that make him a bad quarterback and does replacing him solve any of the Rams'many problems? The answer is no to both questions. It all starts with the Rams' offensive line, whose play is -- well -- offensive. And in my opinion, the number one task of the Rams in the offseason, player-wise, is to upgrade the offensive line. Do you concur?
Jeff Gordon: Yep, which is why I've been calling for an OT to go first to the Rams in the draft. And that would just be the start.

Danny: Jeff,

Do you think that Incognito's behavior somehow benefits the Rams? I'm not sure that anyone would pay attention to the team at this point but for the angst they feel for him.
Jeff Gordon: He's just acting out. Everybody reacts different. As least you notice him.

rich: Jeff: A few reason Haslett should NOT be the head coach next year. After an impressive two wins the team has tanked as bad under him as with Linehan.
The defense or lack though of when he ran it was awful.
Incongito acting a fool all last week and then after the game shows the players have no respect for him. Incongito should have been benched and fined for flipping the bird to the camera Thursday.
He doesn't backup what claimed he would do and that's cut or bench players who aren't responding.
Theres' more that should be enough......

Rich
Jeff Gordon: I'd bench Incognito for his antics with the fans. As for what he does with the media, we can live with that.

BGCARDFAN: Any idea when the "end of Novemeber" report on Carp is coming?

Thanks
Jeff Gordon: Don't know, but I would NOT count on him if I'm Mo. Not at all. I wouldn't care what the doctors said.

knuckles: Obviously, this team needs to be cleansed of a lot of personnel. Unfortunately, due to the salary cap considerations, a complete house cleaning is impossible. The cap is about $116 million for 2008 and will increase slightly in 2009. If you dump high priced guys with guaranteed bonuses etc., you lose cap space to sign other good players. If I were king, here's who I'd bring back in 2009. Mind you, some of these guys are retained ONLY due to the salary cap impact:

Adeyanju,
Atogwe,
Avery,
Bartell,
Bell,
Brown,
Bulger,
Burton,
Carriker,
Davis,
Goldberg,
Greco,
Green,
Hall,
Holt,
Jackson,
Jones,
Little,
Long,
Looker,
Massey,
Pace,
Romberg,
Ryan,
Schuening,
Stanley,
Witherspoon,
King,
McMichael.

I included a couple of guys on IR, too. So, the Rams would have to find another 30 players approximately. Is this realistic? Also, could the PD publish the Rams roster along with the player salaries, contract status, term and cap implications? This will allow fans to see the big picture and examine the future options intelligently.
Jeff Gordon: Pretty good list. Not sure about Davis or the older guys like Little and Pace - how much is left? Those are tough ones.

Tim O'Donnell: What and when are the cardinal's going to do anything? Don't tell me signing a left handed specialist and Kile L is all we are doing? Renteria and Orlando playing second would work? Is that a option? Any power bat to protect Albert in the works?
Jeff Gordon: The market is playing out, but this team needs a new SS, a new 2B, another starting pitcher, another LHRP . . . and then, maybe, if all that gets done, another big bat would be nice.

jdevine: Hi Gordo, I suffered thru Tim Van Galder, Tony Banks, and some pretty bad football over the years. This outfit beats all. Richie Inbigmouthito and Steven "no show" Jackson need to stop telling me how bad a fan I am. I have had pro football tickets b/4 those guys were born. I damm sure don't need any slack from them. Put up or shut up.
Jeff Gordon: Agreed.

The Artist formerly known as the GSOT: Jeff,

Your thoughts on the following players to keep or cut for next season..

1. Holt
2. Pace
3. Pisa
4. Klop
5. Chavous
6. Cogs
7. Bulger
8. Bennett
Jeff Gordon: 1. Holt --gone
2. Pace -- keep
3. Pisa-- gone
4. Klop -- gone
5. Chavous -- gone
6. Cogs -- keep
7. Bulger --keep
8. Bennett --gone

But . . . I would bring in competition for Marc, draft Pace's successor and create competition at guard for Richie Rich.

Ed C: Gordo,
Thanks for the chat. I don't want to complain, just wondering who the keepers are on this team? I was watching Adam Carricker on Sunday and he seemed to have great difficulty locating the ballcarrier. It didn't seem as though he was blocked completely out of plays, he just looked somewhat clumsy. I'm not an expert but if he's not a fit for the 3(?)-technique DT is possible he could be the space eater we clearly need. I know he was tried at that position last year and everyone kept saying that wasn't his best position. He's a big man, very strong and maybe he just need to add 30-40 lbs to be effective in that role. He may sacrifice some agility if he bulked up but agility did not appear to be his strong suit on Sunday. Or is he closing in on the bust label?
Jeff Gordon: At this moment, he is closing in on bust. Something has to be done -- less weight, move outside, more bulk inside. Not sure which is best.

Frank Wild: Gordo
I saw an article after Dick Vermeil was added to the ring of honor that he joined Dan Dierdforf and Larry Wilson with St. Louis football ties. I thought that Jackie Smith and Roger Wehrli were represented there as well and why not Jim Hart and Jim Bakkan. I know they are not hall of famers but neither is Marshall yet. I would rather see their names up there then Dickerson and the rest of the LA Rams. Speaking of the Big Red with all the Warner/Bulger debate how would you rate the top St. Louis NFL quarterbacks. I would say Warner then Hart then Bulger then Lomax? Do you agree.
Jeff Gordon: We've debated this before. What Kurt did, getting this team to two Super Bowls, put him at the top. Too bad Hart didn't have good defenses to support him.

The Artist formerly known as the GSOT: Jeff,

Both the OL and DL are terrible - I know the broadcasting team yesterday said that the Rams are similar to last year's Jets but I doubt the Rams will be able to bring in a Fanacea and Kris Jenkins. Your thoughts??
Jeff Gordon: Yeah, and there is no Brett Favre to bring in either. Don't forget that.

Eric: I honestly believe the Florida Gators can take the Rams. Although they do have two wins, this is the worst excuse for a professional football team I have ever seen! Every player on that defense is terrible!
Jeff Gordon: The whole defense is playing terribly, but there are many keepers in there -- like Long, Bartell and Witherspoon, who is playing hurt.

James K: Hey Gordo -
Care to comment on our classiest of players - Richie Incognito? I'm proud of the fact that he can phone it in on Sunday and then taunt the crowd and then have the audacity to lie about it in the locker room. I guess I shouldn't be surprised - he's got the audacity to collect a paycheck.
OK - I feel better now - Thanks
James K
Jeff Gordon: We're here to help . . .

BillP: Hey Jeff, even though Mizzou is still a pint short when it comes to matching up with the big boys, do you give them a punchers chance in the Big 12 game? After all they do have home field advantage, that's gotta mean something - what do you think?
Jeff Gordon: Um . . . no, the Tigers will get physically handled. The only route to victory would be turnovers forced. Never say never, but . . .

bfulton: What are the ramifications of cutting Incognito in the offseason?

Also, how is the Rams scouting department organized in comparison to New England, Baltimore and Pittsburgh, i.e., how many scouts, what do they cover, etc?

Thanks for all of your reporting and insight.
Jeff Gordon: There's not a great cap hit there, but can this team really throw away a guy plays on fire? I'd more concerned about the invisible guys.

john: The Rams I knew were pretty good...what's that guy's name...Warner? Miss him and the old team...sure, there are guys on the team now that are really good, but overall the players don't work with each other...I think that some of them do not like others, and consequently you have a 2-9 record...or whatever it is...I don't follow much any more...forgetting their names, too...Love the head coach...good guy...keep him.
Jeff Gordon: We're feeling your pain . . .

redbirdswin: Gordo,

Assuming the worst - that Carpenter will not be fully ready for Opening Day - I'm curious to know if there is Cardinal interest in filling that void with one of the following "affordable" pitchers:

Braden Looper
Brad Penny
Mike Hampton
Jason Jennings
Jeff Gordon: Jennings would be a great get, and not so affordable. I'm OK with Looper. Hampton and Penny would have to have incentive-driven deals.

nesporter: Is there some reason I'm not aware of as to why no disciplanary action has been taken against Richie Incognito?
Jeff Gordon: That may yet come today.

john: Coach Haslett...love him as the head coach, but feel sorry for him...hope he has a say in next year's team and player choices. Thank goodness for the Cardinals and Mizzou this year.
Jeff Gordon: And Mizzou basketball -- look for the Tigers to give us some decent hoops again.

Peter North: Gordo, I love the chats! What percentage chance would you give the following players on being our starting SS next season:
Rafael Furcal, Edgar Renteria, Orlando Cabrera, and Yunell Escobar?
Jeff Gordon: Escobar is still tied to the Peavy deal. If that fails, then maybe a Ludwick-Escobar deal could come.

Renteria could be a fallback. I love Cabrera, but I see the bidding getting too silly there. Orlando, not sure he is worth the jack.

Peter J.: Thanks for taking my question and happy early Thanksgiving!

I figured I would try to ask a positive Rams question as I know they are few and far between.

What is the chance that Donnie Jones makes the Pro Bowl? Every time I watch him punt (which seems to be quite often) he seems to be punting the stuffing out of the ball. I remember him doing the same for most of last year. Thoughts?
Jeff Gordon: He will get lots of chances to punt the last five weeks, so he can showcase his skills.

BillP: Hey Jeff, do you think the Rams made a bad move bringing Saunders in? Not that I'm knocking Saunders down, but this organization the last 2 years kept thinking it had a high octane offense and bringing Saunders in was going to bring everything back....... Where do you see Al in this period of transition?
Jeff Gordon: Al's reputation speaks for itself. But not even he could make more of an offense missing Jackson and consistent line/QB play.

ftblfan74: I had to stomach the Cardinals when they were in town since I was young until they left. I learned to just enjoy GOOD football, and have NEVER REALLY rooted for ANY NFL team in general. I just want to see good football being played - the tackles, the catches, the runbacks, the throws, the hits,,, BUT THIS TEAM!? CMON MAN!!! Too many holes, too much passing the buck.
Jeff Gordon: Agreed. I love Haslett, but some of this is on him, too.

Dlaww: Gordo,

The last time I saw you in person, you were wandering the French Quarter the night before the Rams-Patsies SB. Good times back then even if we did lose the game. Back to bitter reality, what are the salary cap repercussions of cutting Bulger before next season? Given how awful he has been, is this something that the Rams will consider? Following this line of questioning, do the Rams go QB with their #1 pick (Matt Stafford)?

Thanks,
Dlaww
Jeff Gordon: That was a great week right up until the game-losing field goal. The post-game socializing with St. Louisans had a whole different flavor.

HEG: Gordo the only thing left for the Rams is a complete over-haul- starting with the front office, coaching staff, attempt to move their impact players for draft choices; the only way they will improve is thru the draft & better selections via free agency; also they have no better chance to win with Green than Bulger- play the young QB to see what he can do. Re; the Cardinals baseball I agree with front office in being cautious with free agents because Cardinals have good prospects in their orgination. Re; Mizzou football- I was pulling for Tech Sat. because Mizzou would match-up better with them than Tex. or Ok. Mizzou also had a nice win vs. a ranked team in basketball.; any comments on Rams statements?
Jeff Gordon: I just don't see those veterans fetching much in the way of picks, Many may just get cut.

Steve: What players from this season do you see starting next season? As I see it on offense you have Bulger, Jackson, Pace(maybe), Holt, and Avery. On Defense you have Long, Carriker, Witherspoon, Tino, Bartell, and Atogwe. What do you think. Thanks.
Jeff Gordon: Tino has been invisible and Holt didn't open downfield for weeks and weeks. Those two aren't shoo-in.

BillP: Hey Jeff, I know you ripped Greenie yesterday, but at least he throws vertical and stretches the field. In both his starts he's thrown over 200 yds. Bulger has only gone over 200 yards in 2 of his 9 starts.........plus at least Green conducts himself like a professional and says the right thing when interviewed............just a couple weeks ago they were talking with Bulger and he was like, "we just got to get things going and if that means putting Trent in there, then I'm all for it"..........I've never heard of a starting QB offering to be benched..........The Rams can't go into next year with this their only option at QB, he is not a leader. If they don't get Stafford with their Number 1, then hopefully there's someone there early that's a sleeper and they can nab him. They need to start a new era and fast. Thanks and Have a great day!
Jeff Gordon: I love Trent Green, but that was a tough outing to watch. He threw deep, but with no accuracy. His mobility didn't help much either. The time has come.

As for Marc, yes, there are many issues there. Many issues.

dweebe: What do you think of Richie Incognito's actions as help walked off the field at the end of the game and taunting the crowd? What do you think of his denials even though there's photo and video proof?
Jeff Gordon: I'd sit him for a game. But we just has Sean Salisbury on 590 the fan and Sean made a case for keeping him, given his fire.

newhampshirecardsfan: Hey Gordo,
Do you think the Cards could go after a bigger named starting pitcher via FA or trade if they cannot make a noted improvement to the middle infield?
Jeff Gordon: The franchise HAS to improve the middle infield. That has to happen. They MUST get more offense from those spots. So there may not be huge dollars left for pitching.

Derek: Jeff,

Do you expect the Rams to make ANY sort of move against Incognito for his antics against the fans? Or is it business as usual and they won't do a thing? Getting rid of talentless money hungry players who don't want to compete and yet have time to make fun of fans that pay his paycheck, deserve to be shipped elswehere.
Jeff Gordon: Again, it's easy to dump guys, harder to replace them.

HP: Gordo, the play in question was Bears pass play to Hester for 30+ yds down right sideline to set up 2nd Bears TD. The play clock was at 0 sec when ball snapped, and ref didn't throw flag. Don't Rams have someone watching play clock for something like that. Little things like that can change complexion of game immediately.
Jeff Gordon: I didn't see the play, but I'm sure the coaches are aware of the clock winding down. That is a call that is almost never missed by the officials. A lot of time it goes right to the wire.

tekstorm: Gordo, do you think Mizzou has what it takes to beat Texas or OU? I've always thought if Chase can avoid careless interceptions that Mizzou could beat anyone. What's your take?
Jeff Gordon: I don't see the Mizzou defense stopping either of those opponents. The other side would have to make a lot of mistakes. The Sooners were awesome against Tech.

Rexxer: The Rams need a new promotion for the fans. I would suggest Mobil-on-the-run discount coffee or softdrink whenever the Rams score 6 or more. What d'ya think?
Jeff Gordon: Nice.

Jon D: Do the Rams have any chance of selling out any of their remaining home games? I have a feeling the games are going to be blacked out once again this year.
Jeff Gordon: I'm not sure visiting fans will be able to buy up all the remaining tickets of the game left. That would give Rams fans a welcome break of seeing them on TV.

Pace: JEFF, IM NOT SURE IF THE RAMS ARE THE WORST TEAM EVER TO HAVE THE HORNS ON THE SIDE. THE REASON I SAY THIS IS BECAUSE OF TWO WORDS. TONY BANKS!!!!
THANKS,
PACE
Jeff Gordon: I dunno . . . my guy had some pretty big games in defeat. Had some horrible ones, too. I dare say this team is less competitive overall.

HopefulRamFan: Gordo,

At some point most of these players will begin playing all out - auditioning and playing for jobs next year.

If this assessment is correct, hitting rock bottom as a team occurs directly before the players start playing for their jobs.

So, if you buy this philosophy, when will the team hit rock bottom?

I predict a flurry of good play toward the end of the season.
Jeff Gordon: You would hope -- because if these guys keep this up, they will lose a lot of money. Guys will get cut, free agents won't get good deals.

bird_man: Gordo, thanks for playing. Do you think the Cardinals will put out a feeler for any veteran starting pitchers that they might sign to a minor league contract with a spring training invite? Thanks,
Jeff Gordon: There may be opportunities to bring in an extra vet or two on tryouts, if the market dries up for pitching. It's always good to have depth.

Aaron: If you had to guess right now, who will be the starting middle infielders for the Cardinals for next season?
Jeff Gordon: Can't guess -- there are way too many variables. Too many other teams in the equation.

Paul: I'm sure you'll get a ton of these about the trade.

I realize that Stempniak's value was high lately but that's because he's valuable! It's good that we got two young former first rounders and added a center that allows Walt and/or Backes to be dedicated wingers but what does it do to Oshie and Berglund when they return? Then when McDonald comes back in a few months it'll be really interesting. It seems sort of stop-gap but maybe it will work out. Definately going to miss Stemp though.

Can't wait to hear John Kelley butcher "Colaiacovo" on a regular basis.

Thoughts?
Jeff Gordon: That is a mouthful, for sure. Not sure why the Blues needed to add another defenseman, given the crowd in place.

secret sauce: If the Cardinals were to sign Felipe Lopez, do you really believe they would acquire Renteria to play SS as well? The defense up the middle would be taking a huge hit, but does the extra offense that the two provide present an overal upgrade?
Jeff Gordon: I like Lopez's bat and he's OK defensively at second base. Edgar is an enigma. IF he got in better shape, maybe his D wouldn't be so bad. And his bat would automatically better than Izturis.

Anthony: Anyone heard the status of Oshie? And WHY do the blues not call up porter? He was an impact player for the short period he was there and davidson&murray themselves talked about his skills...
Jeff Gordon: I liked Porter, but I can't argue with the guys the team brought in. All have done well.

Oshie could miss another few weeks, at least.

cardinalfan4life: Mr. Gordon

As a life-long cardinal fan of 22 years, and as a student of this game, I'm really concerned about this off season, this is the first time in a long time impact players are available through the free agent market. my question is in parts.

1: do you see the cardinals going after a impact starter? I'm assuming Carpenter will not pitch in 2009, that leaves our rotation like so

Wainwright
Loshe
Wellemeyer
Pinero

now there is major questions at the top, can wainwright be a ACE caliber pitcher consistently? I know he was in good company stats wise before he went down(names like Peavy) I think hes a #2 pitcher for now, I'm not yet ready to call him a ACE but if he dose well in 2009 that will change my mind. Loshe, has been inconsistent his entire Major League career, but yet most of us are expecting him to put up #2 numbers in 2009, I'm just not sure, I mean hes got his big contract. Wellemeyer is a #4 starter at best in my opinion, and honesty who knows on Pinero, hes very inconsistent. If I were Mo. I'd look into signing a Ben Sheets or a Brad Penny to a contract, now I'm sure your going to say Sheets is usually hurt, but we all know when hes healthy he is a 18 game winner. I would explore the possibility of trading for Jake Peavy he is a consistant established ACE which I think we need, and then taking a chance on Penny my ideal rotation is so

Peavy
Wainwright
Loshe
Wellemeyer
Pinero

2 how would you address the bullpen?

obviously if Marte were on the market I'd sign him to a nice contract. I think Miller would be a nice addition to this team, and while I'm excited to see the young kids in the pen, its still a mess no wonder it was ranked near the bottom or the bottom of the majors. how would you improve the bullpen

3 our middle infield

one impact player on the Free Agent Market I would explore signing is Rafeal Furcall a former rookie of the year award winner and lead-off man with the Atlanta Braves. I'd re-sign Lopez to back up kennedy at 2nd imagine this lineup

Furcall
Kennedy
Pujols
Ludwick
Glaus
Rasmus
Molina
P
Schmaker

with some minor tweaking of course. what is your thoughts?
Jeff Gordon: I agree with your general assessment of the team, but some of that won't work. Kennedy, for instance, has no place here. And I don't a big investment in Sheets, given his long history injury. I like the idea of dealing for Peavy, who is a sturdy and reliable guy. If that deal is there, Mo should make it happen.

Brian: I have two questions for you Jeff. The first one is how are we doing at trying to acquire a shortstop either via trade or free agency? Also, is it possible that we could get Valverde or Miguel Tejada by trading outfield prospects, such as, Jon Jay or Daryl Jones? Thank you very much for everything that you do.
Jeff Gordon: Jay and Jones are NOT at that level, not yet. Both those guys would help the Cards, obviously, but why would they be available to the Cards?

halo: why did the blues trade stemp? he was good on the 2nd line and we don't get any real good scorers in return, did we need another d-man? really? no. i don't like this trade.
Jeff Gordon: Just talked to Jeremy Rutherford and it seems the team went for need at center and need at defensive depth. Can't say big fan of the deal, at least not yet. I thought Lee was coming around.

Jeepster: Jeff: Has the "complicated" Trever Miller deal been finalized yet?
Jeff Gordon: Not that I've heard.

srs1: What do you think the odds are of the Rams fining or suspending Incognito and if they do nothing, what do you think their inaction says about the front office of the team?
Jeff Gordon: I'd sit him for a game. It'll be interesting to hear what Haslett has to say about that later today.

CardsRedOctober09: Gordo,
With the Cards not making a serious bid for Furcal, who seems likely to sign somewhere soon, and the Cards playing the waiting game with Renteria, does this open the door for Izturis to come back? Why do I have a feeling he is likely to return?
Jeff Gordon: Mozeliak has pretty much written him off. Tony liked his glove and he doesn't mind having a bunter hit ninth, but Mo knows he needs run production in that spot.

I never saw Furcal as a good bet here, given the high bidding.

sltest: Jeff what is your view on trading Stepniack, did the blues get value, one/two years from now are either one of these guys materail contrubtors?

I am presuming the Blues would be silly enough to make this trade just to fill a temporary injury induced hole on a rebuilding team thats not going to the playoffs anyway.
Jeff Gordon: Davidson insists the Blues hockey people see upside in both of the Leafs coming here. Both guys were touted prospects once upon a time. And we all know that Lee has struggled to get back where he was two years ago. But I will remain skeptical until I see what the newcomers can do over a longer haul

razorback: Razorback- Gordo how do you think Chris Long, Donnie Avery, and Adam Carricker are progressing this year. Are they going to be good picks or busts like so many in the past.
Jeff Gordon: Avery has been great. Long has been pretty good, all things considered. Carriker? Not so much.

destructo63: What are the chances of the rams finding a new franchise qb. or are we stuck with bulger and his bs contract?
Jeff Gordon: If he returns, I'm sure he'll have real competition for the gig. The next coach should insist on that as a condition of employment.

Brian: Gordo, just a quick hypothetical: If Linny is still around, do the Rams go 0-16?
Jeff Gordon: Yeah, probably.

Petey123: Jeff, how can the rams justify not cutting or atleast a few games suspension of Richie after the silliness he did after the game? He looked really upset after another embarrasing loss.

Richie, the rams lose with you and can just as easy lose without you? Just no direction with this organization right now.
Jeff Gordon: Can't argue with that.

Derek: Jeff,

What's your take on the Stempniak trade to Toronto for the forward and defensemen? Seemed that Stemper was getting better than his start as of late. I guess anyone can be a better D-man than Brewer...
Jeff Gordon: This deal would make more sense if the Blues turned around and dealt another "D" for forward help.

A Decent NFL Gameplan: Hey Gordo,

I was wondering if you can help me, I've been trying to get together with Jim Haslett for the longest time now, but he's been avoiding me since he became Head Coach in New Orleans. I left a message for him the other day, but he just left a note under my door saying that being fiery is all he needs and X's and O's mean nothing to him. I really think I can help him quite a bit, but apparently there is bad blood between us. Do you think you can serve as a peacemaker and finally get us to meet on even ground? It's becoming more and more apparent that he doesn't want to associate with me, but i think it would be in his best interest. Thanks- you're a real pal!!!
Jeff Gordon: The post of the day!

Dan Z: Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of Haslett's time as head coach has been the lack of imagination or willingness to take any risks. Going without a huddle, going for it on 4th down 50%+ of the time, fake punts (planned ones) flea flickers (maybe not...that requires the o-line to block for more than half a second).

He has nothing to lose. At a minimum, it would get fans behind him, show that he's willing to be creative and (when it inevitably doesn't work) highlight the fact that he has very little to work with. Any idea why he hasn't gone that route?
Jeff Gordon: I agree that no-huddle, up-tempo offense would be worth trying. The few times we saw it, it went pretty well.

DCards: Hi Mr. Gordon,
I'm curious if Bryan Anderson has been considered for a move to another position ala Craig Biggio to take advantage of his hitting?
Jeff Gordon: No, because the Cards have hitters stacked up at other positions. His value is as a hitting catcher.

St. Louis Rams Defense: Help me!!! I'm lost and I don't know how to get home. It's so dark and lonely where I am now. lovie smith told me he was taking me for a ride in the country several years back and as soon as I stepped out of his car, he took off. It's been so long since I've been employed- and now I'm just so scared and hungry. Please help me find my way home!!!
Jeff Gordon: Again, you have to love the creative effort.

Lawarence Marmie: Gordo,

Let's recap-

I said at the end of last year that it was a huge mistake to bring Linehan back.

I said in spring training that this defense would once again flounder under Haslett and be one of the worst in the league

I said way back that Incognito is an overrated headcase who brings nothing to the table except immaturity and stupid play

I said that naming a failed defensive coordinator to the head coaching job was also a mistake.

Why does it hurt to be right all the time? Oh wait, you probably can't answer that question...
Jeff Gordon: You could certainly argue that this hasn't worked out. Who knows, had Jackson and Little stayed healthy, maybe this team wins five or six for Jim and it turns the corner. But it didn't happen and life goes on.

Justin: Gordo, what do you make of the Stempniak trade?
Jeff Gordon: Again, I'll have to be convinced on this one. I liked Lee's upside for scoring. Shooters are hard to find. This franchise, more than most, knows that. But we'll see. As a caller to KFNS noted, Brad Boyes blossomed here. Maybe Steen will too.

jhillig2130: Why in the world have the Rams held onto Dick Incognito?

I can't believe it's because of his quality play? Maybe it's about economics, but I can't imagine that he would kill their salary cap? Even if he did, isn't there some point at which dignity is more important then $$? For crying out loud...
Jeff Gordon: The Rams have plenty of polite players. The team can't be too quick to clear out one of their few violent guys.

Lawarence Marmie: Gordo,

My Rams are an unmitigated disaster

My Devils are done now that Broduer is out for an extended period of time

So, now I have to wait until spring for the Yankees to begin. Do I at least have hope with them?
Jeff Gordon: Having Hal run that team instead of goofy Hank is good news for you. He'll stabilize things -- and with all that money, they will have a great offseason.

Richie Incognito's Brain: Hellow,

Wot do I do? Richie dont' uze me so good. Why m I covured wif dust fore?
Jeff Gordon: Everybody's a comic.

robott24: GORDO... I love your articles. Have you heard any scuttle about whether or not the Cardinals are interested in Brad Penny or Ben Sheets? I would think that both of these pitchers kind of fit the mold that the Cardinals (mainly LaRussa and Duncan) usually go for. I for one would love to see either of them in a Cardinal uniform because unfortunatley I don't have any faith in seeing Carpenter pitch this year.

Thanks!!!
Jeff Gordon: Sheets has huge injury risk and huge salary expectations. Penny could be a more interesting get, under the right circumstances.

CardsRedOctober09: I have read the Cards are likely to know more about Carp's progress in early December. What is happening in early December that will make it likely they will know more about his condition? If it is found out that it is likely that Carp will not be ready for Opening Day, will they sign another starter or is it more likely that Johnny Mo will make Tony give their prospects and younger pitchers like McClellan, Todd, or Mortensen (hopefully Todd) a shot?
Jeff Gordon: Look, if Carpenter pitches next year, it will be a bonus. That is the way to look at it. If the Cards don't see if that way, then that could cost them a chance to contend next year.

Kevin: Jeff,

Will Pujols be the first $30 million dollar MLB player? If so, could the Cards really afford to retain him?

Thanks,
Kevin
Jeff Gordon: I don't see Albert being the first $30 million guy, but he will get offered top dollar here. He's got three years to go here, so there is time to work on it.

destructo63: Is it possible for the rams to have warner back next season? do you think that would be an upgrade?
Jeff Gordon: Kurt wants to finish out in Arizona and I expect that to happen. Yes, it would be an upgrade.

Lawarence Marmie: Have I ever mentioned that I hate that lovie smith?
Jeff Gordon: Lovie would like to thank the Rams for getting folks in Chicago off his back for one week.

Raz_Daz: Hey Gordo...

Thanks for taking my question.

Looking at the Blues contract obligations going into next season do you think the organization will have an active trade deadline and free agency period to really put some substantial assets in place regardless of a playoff berth this season? My question makes reference to the following situations: most of the core depth players are locked up for several years; with Andy Mac's injury putting his contract year in limbo the club can possibly resign him for $3.3M (1 yr) and ask him to play for the bigger contract again [do over]; Walt may sign for a more reasonable number in the twilight of his career (reducing cost there) or risk being a deadline trade again; Hinote's $1M can be spent elsewhere more beneficially; Manny is risking being a deadline move without a new contract in place since Mason is locked up??? I see the ability of the front office to have the financial freedom to obtain the pieces they need to move closer to being a playoff team again. Do you feel this will be the point in time to do so? Maybe HockeyGuy can add his two cents on the near-term outlook???
Jeff Gordon: I see the team staying with player development, bringing back Erik Johnson, adding Lars Eller, promoting Ben Bishop, so on and so forth. The team will have some flexibility, but I don't see a big play on a top-line free agent. The team revenues just don't support that strategy.

Smiley357: Bad news Bears opps I mean rams.

Quotes from this week.
Bernie Miklasz said “Haslett does nothing to hold the players accountable. He keeps threatening to make lineup changes, but doesn't.”

You said “But here’s the deal: For the most part, he already IS playing the kids.” And you give a list of players being benched or hurt and now starting or getting a lot of playing time.

Jeff Gordon: There are a few things he can still do, such as sit Richie, but he pretty much got to the end of the bench Sunday. Everybody who was able to play did play.

I agree with Bernie that Jim needs to question the team's effort. He can't defend that effort. He just can't. It's more than execution. But in terms of changing the lineup, there isn't a heck of a lot more he can do.

rom620: Gordo - Since blowing up the entire team in the offseason is not a realistic option, where do you think the Rams should start? Three or four significant moves are all that really seem possible, so what are those moves? Obviously the O-line is big, but should that be all of it? Or just one or two of the moves with the others going elsewhere?
Jeff Gordon: Draft an OT, then just keep adding talent. Don't stop!

RamLuke: The rams we knew are no more. once losing doesn't bother you, then your playing not to get hurt, and collect a paycheck. These guys brought us great memories, but great memories don't sell tickets..Gordo its time to blow it up.......
Jeff Gordon: Can't argue with that or with fans staying home.

steskaej: Hey Gordo,

So do the Blues sign Shanny with the extra cap space or are they looking elsewhere for offensive help? I would assume this deal was made for one of these reasons.
Jeff Gordon: Shanahan seems resolved to play in the East or stay home.

destructo63: what place in the draft will chase daniel likely get drafted.
Jeff Gordon: Second day, third round or lower.

That's it for today -- I'm exhausted! Have a nice Thanksgiving.
