Dave: The Tigers manager was recently quoted as saying that in order to get good talent you must give up good talent yet we are obsessed with Colby Rasmus. Also, the Tigers pay their draft picks well over league recommendations in order to keep them so they can make these moves, while el chepo Dewitt avoids drafting people he has to pay. Don't pay free agents, dont pay draft picks, raise ticket prices umm makes you wonder where the money is going, I guarentee he isn't forgetting to pay HIMSELF.
The other night against Edmonton, the Blues were losing and came in the locker room and start calling people out. This, in my mind, foster accountability and they responded. This is not the first time this year they have OWNED the third period. Maybe Linehan needs to give Andy a call about how to motivatie players to finish the game strong.
Jeff Gordon: First, on Murray: No question he has beeter head-coach command. His years of experience are evident. He runs a very tight ship. I think he is one of the best coaches in the league. Will that translate to postseason success? We'll see, because that is a different challenge.
As for the Cards, no, you can't truly commit to player development AND let top prospects slide away because you won't meet their salary demands. The Tigers were able to make their deals because they went all in on drafting and signing the very best players. That gave them more assets to move for big league talent.
Billy D: Remind me again why we got rid of Mark Grudzielanek. It seems we put another no talnt washup there every year in hopes they will be good. Heck, lets bring back Bo Hart. He could not be worse than Adam Kennedy and he would cost less, Dewitt would be all over that
Jeff Gordon: Bo has finally given up on baseball, I believe. But Brendan Ryan might be a similar guy, albeit with the ability to play the left side of the infield.
Larry: Jeff..I know this is old history. But watching Jay Culter slice the Chiefs up yesterday...what are your thoughts about the Rams making a mistake and not taking Cutler when available last year and let Bulger walk after his contract was up last year? The Rams would have a young franchise QB to build on as the team begins its rebuilding process.
Jeff Gordon: At the time, going to a kid made no sense -- and Bulger did post HUGE numbers once he settled into Linehan's offense. With guys like Holt and Bruce and a mature offensive line, there was no point of starting over at QB. A year later the idea may seem more appealing, but especially with Linehan scaling to safety-first mode on offense.
matt from GC: i've heard the rams are moving to a 3-4 defense next year. so does that mean taking a LB early in the draft or signing a LB to go along with spoon, pisa and chiller? or will they just promote Draft for the Fourth LB?
thanks, MATT from GC
Jeff Gordon: A shift to 3-4 would require the Rams to add at an impact LB, since you would be stretched thin with the current group. Does the team buck up to keep Chillar? It would appear so, since he has had some success as Haslett shifted to more 3-4 principles.
Chris Weatherby: HOW YOU DOING GORDO? Do the redbirds have any chance of landing eric bedard without including colby rasmus? The only player i would trade rasmus for at this point is johan santana. This guy is going to be what ryan braun and huter pence were this year. So what do you think?
Jeff Gordon: Getting Bedard would require moving Rasmus, Bryan Anderson AND a top pitching prospect -- and the Cards have few of those. I'd keep all the kids for a year, try to get by and then go for a big '09 splash in free agency and on the trade mart.
