Griff21: I know its still early and only the first few top FAs have signed. I'm not even saying we need to sign someone tomorrow or even this week. however our #1 priority is still a starter. We have Waino, welly , & lohse & after that a half dozen question marks. I'd like to see a solid #3 starter ( Byrd?) and of course we have to sign an injury riddled player ( penny?). or have you heard we are looking at another player>
Jeff Gordon: The guy I recommended for that slot is Randy Wolf, who would fit in behind Wainwright and Lohse and balance up the rotation.
The FA pitching marketplace will settle down once the Yankees get done signing people. Mozeliak will see where will the real value of mid-rotation pitchers fall.
Griff21: I have long respected & hated randy johnson, mostly because he was a great pitcher , always on the opposite team. now after injuries and free agency do we have a decent shot at landing him? what kinda terms might he garner ? 6-8 a year for 2 years? he might not be the pitcher he once was but hes still a force. just to be able to say we have randy johnson on our team would be a huge moral boost.
Jeff Gordon: I haven't seen a good number on Johnson lately, in terms of his expectations. But I'm sure it's high. He is a lefty with presence, even at this advanced age. With the Cubs out of the Peavy hunt, that team will be a wild card in the free-agent marketplace.
Griff21: why fuentes???????? seriously ?? the guy is good & hes a lefty, ok i'll admit those things. but seriously 10M+ a year. come on, your yanking my chain right?
for 10M we could easily sign Hoffman( who would be more respected and a better teacher to perez& motte) at least one lefty (ohman and/or any of the dozens of others out there) and enough left to help fill the bench ( miles)
Fuentes has no spot on this team, he can close , but we have have perez, motte & a couple young studs advancing in the minors. hes a lefty but there are many others out there for much cheaper.
Jeff Gordon: The remaining FA lefties are just OK, lefty-lefty match-up guys for the sixth, seventh and eighth. Fuentes has four solid years' experience pitching in the ninth. The internal candidates you mention have a combined two months' experience pitching in the ninth.
Brian would make the whole group better by putting other relievers in a position to succeed.
Frank: Gordo-
Our Rams are 2-11. This season is over - has been over for a very long time. Isn't better to rest our older players and give the younger players an opportunity to see and feel the speed of the NFL. Why is Jackson playing? It does not make any sense for us to win any more games. Our superbowl is going to be the draft.....again...
Regards-
Frank
Jeff Gordon: I have no problem with Jackson playing unless he is risking permanent injury. I don't believe that is the case.
I suppose Chamberlain and Vobora could play more, and Greco too. Schuening apparently isn't ready. Otherwise, the kids ARE playing.
Rich: Hey Gordo,
Do you see the Rams signing up anybody before the end of the season or will they wait to see who the next coach/GM are going to be before making any decisions?
On that note, in my opinion the Rams should lock up Bartell before OJ.
OJ has certainly had more highlight reel moments; however, he also cost this team dearly with mistakes in coverage and in the open field.
Bartell has been solid all season which is exactly what the Rams need right now in the secondary.
Thanks for these chats.
Jeff Gordon: Right now, Devaney looks like he'll be the GM. But who will authorize the momentary outlaw and run the payroll budget? Will the current group continue doing that?
I don't like the direction this is taking.
As for Atogwe, he DOES have coverage lapses, as we Sunday. Bartell I'm all in for.
