HiltonHeadMatt: Long time Rams fan no longer living in St Louis. I did not get to see many Rams games, but did see yesterdays game. Every reader will have a more valid opinion then me, but here are my thoughts.
1)Keep Pace, Holt and Bulger for one more year.
2)The first draft choice should be a big nasty MLB.
3)By either FA or the draft get a big sloppy fat NT.
4)By either FA or the draft pick up some OT and a center.
5)Obtain a big tough running back to supplement Jackson.
6)Get a blocking back
7)Go to a 3/4 with Carriker at end and Long at OLB
8)Pick up depth at CB and Safety.
9)Last but not least, get a QB to push Bulger or to replace him.
Gordo, keep up the good work.

Jeff Gordon: Those are all reasonable ideas. The Rams could move down from No. 2 and have a better chance at getting all that done.
virginia: With Haslett probably on the way out, what happens now? Is he technically finished, as any coach would be who is fired the day after the season ends, or does he continue to perform coaching duties until the new person is brought in? Would Haslett at that point assist in the transition, or just be fired?
Jeff Gordon: There's not a lot to do, other than wrap up the postseason evaluations. Devaney will make all the personnel calls while searching for coaches. Billy and Jim will have conversations, since Haslett is a candidate to state.
The planning for '09 will wait until the coaching situation is set.
bfulton: Because the Rams are interviewing other candidates for HC, Haslett presumably may interview with other teams. Can he in reality? If so, are there any teams in the mix, regardless for which job?
Jeff Gordon: He could resurface as a d-coordinator elsewhere, once the music stops. The Rams won't hold him hostage. I'm sure he and his reps will have conversations with other teams.
virginia: You said in your column yesterday that if Haslett is retained, Venturi and Haslett's defense would remain as well. Considering the way his defense performed the last three years, this has all the makings of a 5-11 season at best, which is exactly the reason Haslett needs to go and new blood needs to arrive. As defensive coordinator and coach, Haslett's defense was continuously out schemed and out coached, and his half time adjustments were non-existence (Look at the long runs Atlanta had yesterday in the second half). His defense was continuously out of position and unprepared or unable to make tackles. How can Devany possibly think this is acceptable or ok to bring back? It wasn't just the players on defense. It was the coach too.
Jeff Gordon: Jim could stay and replace Venturi as the D-coordinator -- but, in reality, if Haslett stays, the Rams will run his defense. It's not like he would bring in somebody with a new scheme and a new philosophy.
virginia: Avery looked good this past season, while Burton seemed to disappear. You were very high on Burton coming out of training camp. Do you still think he has enough to be a starting wide receiver? If Holt leaves, who becomes the Number 1? It doesn't seem as if Avery is best suited for that role, as he reminds me alot of our old Az-Zahir Hakim.
Jeff Gordon: Avery is much better than Hakim, who was just a slot guy. Donnie is faster. Burton didn't disappear, but he was still learning. Holt came to live late in the season, but does he want to be here? And would Bruce return and replace the hapless Bennett?
