tw: Colt or Sam with the 1st pick? Do'nt say Tim because his stock is droping every week..
Jim Thomas: It's not that I had canvassed a lot of scouts, but the consenus prior shoulder problems seemed to be Bradford. But now, what do you do? How long after Bradford's surgery until he's able to throw? If he can make the workout circuit _ Combine, pro days, etc., he'll have to show something at those.
Timothy: Hi Jim,
I don't see why everyone is so down on the rams. They knew they were rebuilding and it's going to take awhile.
I am still a fan of about 40 years and behind this team more now. And understand if there is new ownership, changes maybe made and will take longer. People just have to be patient as the past regime, Ziggy(lawyer) really didn't know what he was doing with his draft book. Don't blame Devaney yet, it's still too early.
What do you think?
And people keep blaming Chris Long for not being like a Pro Bowl Caliber Player, but what do you expect when we don't have the talent at the DT position. Now if we had both Pat and Kevin Williams of the Vikings, that would be another story. What's your opinion.
Thank you Jim for your hard work during this very long season...
Jim Thomas: I think we all knew this was going to take time, and I don't think we were expecting much. But I think we expected better than 0-7. Let's say Avery doesn't fumble at Washington, the Rams finish off that drive and score and beat the Redksins. Let's say the Rams win the coin toss to start overtime, they drive down for a game-winning field goal and win in Jacksonville. They're 2-5 at this point, and although we all have gripes, it's not all that bad, relatively speaking. But it didn't happen. As Steven Jackson said, this team needs to learn how to finish, learn how to win.
Similar with Chris Long. Yes, he'd be better with better talent around him. And yes, the Rams haven't led much or had the opponent in third-and-long situations all that much _ situations that aid pass rushers. But still, we all expected more of Long in his second season. I am not even close to calling him a bust. But we all expected more.
Your patience is admirable.
Prof: As always, Mr. Thomas, thanks for your time.
The last four games -- starting with San Francisco -- I've watched Chris Long with some attention. His play seems far better than the endless click-'n-crab bloggers would have you believe. He plays the run pretty stoutly and, in particular, he seems adept at (1) occupying several blockers and clogging the run so a tackle can be made; and, (2) establishing his end and turning plays inside. Neither of these skills shows in the stats.
On pass rushing, though, he seems neither strong enough to bull rush nor fast enough to speed rush the big, long-armed left tackles. Thus the question(s): At the beginning of the season, in a long, detailed analysis (at least for TV), Warren Sapp argued that Long's natural position, better suiting his skill set, would be left end. What do you think? The Rams move him around somewhat; will he become a flex player in Spagnuolo's overall scheme?
Jim Thomas: Yeah, I think Long looks more comfortable and more effective at left end.
dominic zappia: Hey Jim:
My friend, its time that the Mark Bulger era comes to an end after this season, dont you agree?
2)Would you take a flyer on Brady Quinn or another qb and draft one in the 2nd round?
3)Im not shocked that we are winless, but I dont understand why fans expected more,we have no talent. Dont you thing that the way they decided to build with youth is more beneficial for the future?
4)And since we will have lots of cap money to spend next year that we will be active in free agency?
I have hope in Billy D. and Spags!
Jim Thomas: 1.) Agreed on Bulger, unless something changes dramatically over the final nine games.
2.) I'd say no on Quinn.
3.) A win would be nice.
4.) Hope so, don't you?
Haden: When do you think that we will see Null on the field? I think we need to try and win some games with Bulger, but there is no reason not to play Null in blow-outs and near the end of the season. Thanks for your opinion.
Jim Thomas: I don't know what it would've hurt to put him in late against Indy or Minnesota. Obviously, the coaches don't feel he's ready for even that. We'll see if that changes over the second half of the season.
