Jeremy Rutherford: The NHL draft is about 30 hours away, so I'm sure we'll be talking about who the Blues are going to take. Let's chat . . .
corey clark: from 1-10 whats the chance of the blues geting the stanley cup.any good rumors on what the blues might do on july 1st.
Jeremy Rutherford: Winning the Stanley Cup next season . . . on a 1-10. Probably a 1. The Blues have a lot of question marks next year, most notably goal scoring, power play and backup goaltending.
No wild rumors so far about free agency. Keep in mind that last year Dave Checketts told me the Blues probably wouldn't be in the running for a high-priced forward, and then the team signed Paul Kariya. I don't expect anything like that this year, but it's possible.
Sean: With new ownership in place and if things don't work out with Andy Murray, could we possibly see Coach Q back?
Jeremy Rutherford: I don't see that happening at this point. First of all, the Blues have a coach in Andy Murray and they think he can be successful. If things didn't work out with Murray, I'm sure Quenneville would be on the Blues' radar if he didn't have a job already. John Davidson has admiration for Coach Q, but the Blues might feel like they already been there, done that (even if it wasn't a good decision to let him go). Plus, would Quenneville want to come back? I think he would. Everything I've heard is that he loved it here.
Kariyan: So they say they'll draft the 'best possible player' - I'm seeing this Filatov kid around number 5 in a lot of rankings, if the blues are picking 4th, and 2-4 are all D men, which we don't really need more of, why wouldn't they possibly go with Filatov? We need young offensive talent.
Jeremy Rutherford: I get the impression that the Blues don't think Filatov is ready . . . and then there's the whole issue about bringing here from Russia. I know Filatov and his family say they want to come to North America (he even says he'll play in the AHL if need be), but it's a small risk for a team counting on its young players. Everyone says the Blues don't need defense, but I don't know where that comes from. This defense wasn't great last year and these players at the top of the draft board have way more upside than any of the Blues defenseman (outside of Erik Johnson). The Blues needs will change in the next couple of years and while everyone says they need offense, I want to hear from those people in three years when Bogosian, Doughty and Pietrangelo are studs on some other teams blue-line because the Blues let them go.
Mark: Hey JR.
Any truth to the Emery to Blues Trade Rumor that's been floating around on XM Radio and SI.com? It says Emery and prospect Ilya Zubov to STL for McKee, Hinote, and a 5th rounder.
With Emery's connections to people in STL like Jarmo and Wamsley, it might be true, but I'm not sure. Have any info on this?
Thanks.
Jeremy Rutherford: I've heard the rumor, but I don't have any evidence that it's true. The Blues have talked so much about character that I can't believe there is anything to this rumor.
