ron: Hi Jeff, the Rams have not had good corners or safeties for as long as I can remember. They dont have any pressure up front besides Leonard Little. Finally they dont have any depth on the offensive line. Since these problems have been in place since the Super Bowl year, how come the team doesnt go out and address these needs with big time players. It seems to me they always try to mask a problem rather than fix it. Do you think its coaching or the front office for not making improvements? thanks.
Jeff Gordon: Losing Fakhir Brown and Tye Hill at the same time is tough for the Rams, but I thought Ron Bartell was fine in this game. The defense was fine overall, except for that one Frank Gore TD run fourth-and-one. As for the O-line, the depth was fine there, too, until the team lost Orlando Pace, Todd Steussie and Richie Incognito all at once. Not many teams can go three or four deep into their O-Line reserves without having a drop off.
Mullaniac: JG, I know that Cory Chavous learned how to cook. When is he going to tackle, TACKLING? Go D-Rams Jersey
Jeff Gordon: Tough play, that fourth-and-one. I'm sure Corey was stunned to see Gore wedge through that traffic. Then it appeared Corey went for the ball and not the sure tackle. What a mess!
Greg Olsen Hater: What was Chavous thinking? It's 4th and 1 and you have a 6 point lead, just tackle. Why is he trying to strip the ball? I keep hearing what a smart player he is but I never see it on the field.
Jeff Gordon: Another mishap on that play: Chris Draft went one gap over and joined the scrum, hoping to push Gore back. Instead, Gore slid through the adjacent gap and rid himself of Chavous like it was nothing.
Monty: jeff, The offense had 3 opportunities to put this game away early. Mental mistakes by veteran players are a hard pill to swallow for fans that pay hard earned money to come watch them play. Maybe the thought that this is a team ready for the playoffs is premature? The way this team looks right now, we will be lucky to go 8-8
Jeff Gordon: 0-2 is now way to start this season. Linehan tried to shoulder the blame for this is the postgame news conference. "We couldn't' finish two in a row," he said. "That falls on the head coach . . . it's my responsibility. It's on my shoulders, period." He did say, "shoot, we'll fix it."
MIke: We completely dominate and lose at home anyway. This is the most dishearening loss over the last two seasons. The defense looked good and we still lose. What was the mood in the locker room? I think Jackson had a right to be angry after that next to last possession. I still can't understand Olsen's plan.
Jeff Gordon: The plan wasn't the problem. The Rams came out looking to attack downfield and use all their weapons. The offensive line breakdowns against the Niners rush/blitzes nearly knocked Marc Bulger out of the game. He has very sore ribs -- probably cracked -- and he was under duress when the game was on the line. Six sacks, scores of hard hits, a fumble forced, too many passes rushed or thrown away . . . this was a mess.
