virginiatom: I like the philosophy that Spagnuolo is instilling in this Ram's team and feel that he will be a great coach. I am not confident however, in Deveny, and the two drafts he has had so far have been less than impressive. If the Rams can get beyond him and get some solid playmakers in here I feel Spags has a chance. If we keep drafting players who can't contribute, he is doomed to failure.
Jeff Gordon: Chris Long was visible today. So were Avery and Burton. Smith had a rough time when he got a turn at left tackle, however.
virginiatom: This is embarrassing. They can't stop the run and they can't stop the pass. No pass rush, no coverage downfield, and tight ends again run wide open in the middle. Running backs that break through the line and run free with no one there to stop them. Since this year is obviously over and Spagnulo's job is safe, why not try Long on the left and work on developing some of the younger guys who are going to be the future of this team? Also is there any thought of moving Long to linebacker or is he strictly a lineman?
Jeff Gordon: If you had him shed bulk to play LB, I'm not sure he would gain enough explosiveness to be good at that position. The Rams sat Hall out today, with his injury, so there weren't any young guys getting held back at DE.
Tackleberry: Bulger continues to target receivers on 3rd down that are both short of the first down sticks and completely blanketed. He has time but refuses to take a shot. I am actually surprised he threw that flea-flicker to Avery, I assumed he'd dump that to Karney. Not earning many points today.
Jeff Gordon: But how many receivers are getting open downfield on those plays? And why aren't the shorter routes getting run closer to the first-down marker?
MarkLZCran: Hi Gordo-
I know the season isnt half over yet, but its time to start thinking about the Pro Bowl. It seems to me that 5 Rams have had stellar campaigs so far and merit Pro Bowl consideration. These 5 are Paris Lenon, Billy Bajema, Keenan Burton, Chris Chamberlain and Jonathan Wade. Do you think any of these guys will make the Pro Bowl?
Thanks.
Eldrick Faversham, Jr.
Jeff Gordon: Good one!
virginiatom: Watching Smith today I think it is fair to say that the first two picks Devaney has made are part of the reason this Rams team is so terrible, yet he seems to escape accountability. He is turning out to be as bad a general manaager as Matt Millen was in Detroit. He could have had any body in the past two drafts, and like Millen he struck out both times. Long a bust, and Smith on his way there. Don't tell me its too early for these guys to get a read on them, those that are true stars (which the 2nd pick in the draft should be) stand out from the beginning. Long can't unseat a journey men named Hall and Smith can't unseat journey man Goldberg. How pathetic is this? He has put us in a hole that will take years to dig out of. Why do you sportswriters continue to give Deveney pass?
Jeff Gordon: Remember that these young guys have come into a program that now has lost 34 of its last 39 games. There is failure at every turn on this team. It is hard to stand out in this environment.
Devaney came into an utter disaster, one that was years in the making. He has had total control on the football side for less than a year. Can't write off a GM in that scenario.
