Join columnist Jeff Gordon for a live Rams chat, approximately 30 minutes after the end of each Rams game this season.

fcoprado: needs for '09:
OT: Pace is old and line needs a tackle to eventually replace him or Barron.
MLB: Witherspoon is better at weak-side, need a thumper
FB: Jackson clearly needs a hammer to open holes
C: The last time the Rams had a pro-bowl center was Doug Smith
SS: A hard-hitting intimadiator in the secondary
Jeff Gordon: A shutdown corner would be nice, too, to give Bartell some help. And a big WR to replace Bennett.
ramsfan80: Same sh__ different day. Opening drive...terrible snaps by Leckey...any DECENT QB would have hit Avery in stride for a TD...Brown misses another long FG. Terrible.
Jeff Gordon: And it just kept getting worse. Disregard the late numbers, since Frisco shut 'er down at the half.
steve: This team is done. They will not win another game this year.
Get rid of the entire coaching staff and start over in '09.
Jeff Gordon: You could sure make that case. I was a big Haslett supporter, as regular chat visitors know, but this was sad. To fall behind that team 35-3 -- wow. The team has tuned out the staff. The team has already started its offseason.
boleil: Lol! This is ridiculous.
Next week Gordo?
Jeff Gordon: I kept saying there are winnable games -- and the Bears look willing to prove it. But the minute a game turns on these guys, they pack it up. That can't be fixed in practice. That can't be fixed with a few lineup changes.
Patrick: Gordo,
How early do you see us drafting a QB next year? They can't possibly go on with Bulger as the starter can they?
Jeff Gordon: Haslett was suggesting the team would, but that isn't likely to be his call. Again, though, it's tough to find immediate QB solutions in the draft. Regular chat visitors will recall that I've talked up Matt Cassel as an option.
mike: Headline! St Louis Ewes are BAAAAHD!! I HAVE SEEN BETTER PLAY WATCHING 12 YEAR OLDS IN RECREATION LEAGUE BALL, AT LEAST MORE HEART AND EFFORT.
Jeff Gordon: I hope you watched the second half. That might have made you feel a little better.
threeputt123: The rams defence said they had to step up big today. Boy they sure did step up !
Jeff Gordon: Yeah, the "D" had to defend some short fields. But still . . .
midnighter67: This is worse than the first four games. Now they're getting blown out by a 2 and 7 team. Man, does this team SUCK! No heart, no pride, no self-respect, no class, no talent - no wonder they can't even keep a game close. They might as well pack it up and forfeit the rest of the schedule. At least the fans wouldn't have to suffer any more. I feel sorry for the young guys like Avery and Long who got drafted in to this mess. They're stuck here for the next 3 or 4 years. To think I pay $300 dollars a year to watch this crap every week.
Jeff Gordon: There IS talent on this team, which is the sad thing. You saw that early in the game and late in the game. But as a TEAM -- and an organization -- the Rams are mess. Put a lot of these same guys in a new environment and the results might surprise you.
brendcon: Jeff,
Bulger has underthrown(by a lot) the 2 deep balls he has thrown in the first half, where was he throwing the ball over Holts head which then led to a field goal--I guess that was a rookie running the wrong route, fumbled the ball, and Haslett is going down with him....No running game this week??? Pittman and the O-line were great in the first half. I am excited to just see the Bulger lovers excuses this week. It's a sad day in St. Louis as our $65 million QB is so bad we couldn't get anything for him.....Ouch. Another interception..
Jeff Gordon: Yeah, the early runs by Pittman should have set up play-action success. You are right, there is no excuse for Bulger's play. Antonio had his best day as a pro, which gave Marc every chance.
Bruce: Another interception!!!! Cut Bulger, draft someone that can play. Who ever thought Bulger was an NFL caliber QB anyway?
Jeff Gordon: Well, he's been picked for Pro Bowls. So that is something.
midnighter67: Does Leonard Little still play for St. Louis? I haven't heard his name in weeks. I guess that's a good thing since the only time you hear a Ram players name is when he screws up.
Jeff Gordon: Little is trying to play hurt. And he's not playing very well, obviously.
threeputt123: Hey Jeff , What think do you think about trading Tory Holt and Steven Jackson to build up the O line and then going after Matt Cassel ? Anyone can say anything they like about Marc Bulger . But even when he has time the reads if any are awful . I know he's been beat up but come on its time for a change ....
Jeff Gordon: Holt has very little trade value. Cutting him will be an option after this season, since it will free up money to spend on other needs. And Jackson offers more value as a player for this team -- even with his injury issues -- than he does as a trade chip.
steve: How in the world did this "team" beat Wash. and Dallas?
At least Detroit scores some points most of the time.
I don't think even Mike Martz can be enjoying this.
Jeff Gordon: No, actually, I'm pretty sure Martz enjoyed that.
Tackleberry: Does today confirm that Haslett is probably not a good fit for the future? It feels like this organization needs a fresh start from top to bottom. LIke next August it will be a building full of strangers getting to know one another.
Jeff Gordon: Given this team's habit of collapsing in the face of adversity, Haslett doesn't have much of a case to stay. This game had "fresh start needed" stamped all over it.
James: Gordo,
I have never seen such bad tackling, or poor decision making. We look totally out manned in every way and the first half isn't even over. Bulger has used up the last of his leeway with me. He needs to be sat down, period. we have given up 68 points in the last two first halves. What a discrace we have become.
The entire team needs to be fired. Only Atowege seems to do anything and even he takes bad angles to tackle.
As a Ram fan of over 35 years, I can honestly say that this is the worst football I have ever seen our team play. I am not sure I can watch anymore of this the rest of the year.
Jeff Gordon: Can't blame you. These Niners are no juggernaut. That first half was stunning.
mizzourah1986: Gordo,
I am one of the most loyal Rams fans anywhere, but I will not continue to watch this GARBAGE anymore, I will not be attending any more games this year, How in the HECK did this team win against WASH and DAL????
Jeff Gordon: The Rams do have talent, which is why the nature of these losses are so baffling. Jackson's absence has something to do with the last few weeks, but Pittman ran well enough for these guys to win today. Jackson's absence is no excuse.
midnighter67: If the Rams played:
the Detroit Lions, how big would the Lions halftime lead be?
the Temple Owls, how big would the Owls halftime lead be?
the Mitchell Marauders(my old high school), how big would the Marauders
halftime lead be?
the senior centers recreational team, how big would the old ladies'
halftime lead be?
Jeff Gordon: Old ladies play football down at the recreation center? Finally, a place where I could cover a receiver.
Grimmsta: BULGER is a B@#$H!!!!!! Someone knock this sissy outta the season already. The o line is soft as cotton. DEFENSE.... is there any DEFENSE? This team from top to bottom is full of wussies (according to their play). I won't wacth onother game this season. Once you lose to the whiners...... COME ON, the WHINERS??? Really, the WHINERS? to HELL with Haslett. Get some winners in here.
Jeff Gordon: Did that make you feel better?
Grimmsta: Bench Bulger for the rest of the season. Hell, CUT him. Who cares. If we're gonna suck anyway, just put in some guys who WANT to play. Bulger is a dub QB. Soft and STUPID. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know... his decision making is because of the SORRY O-line....Ms. Bulger, your career is OVER. She reminds me of Rocky in Rocky 3 (When he didn't want to fight anymore). This team will be refered to as women by me until they MAN up.... Maybe the warden in that AZ prison should come work for the RAMS and issue everyone in the organization PINK underwear/jockstraps.
Jeff Gordon: Again, does that make you feel better?
midnighter67: I wish I could mail it in at my job week after week and still make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. Do you think you'd still have a job, Gordo, if you consistently performed this poorly week in and week out? Jimmy Johnson says it's their preparation during the week that's responsible for these debacles. I guess he thinks missed tackles and poorly thrown balls are nonfactors.
Jeff Gordon: They worked hard enough in practice, but that's just practice. In their hearts, they are ready to fold as soon the game turns against them. Their issues are more mental/emotional than anything.
Grimmsta: Why even suit up?? Just freakin FORFEIT the games..... If THIS is what you practice all week for, why bother? BENCH EVERYBODY you can and put the low guys on the totem pole in the starting line up... I know I sound irrational, but their play is irrational.....
Jeff Gordon: You saw some of the subs, thanks to injuries, as the game progressed. Not many answers there.
midnighter67: St. Louis Rams versus the local girl scouts, who leads at halftime and by how much?
Jeff Gordon: Are you talking about a Girl Scout all-star team, or just a local troop?
smackuprams: well its half time now.the rams are happy...bulger got his 3pts,only 2 picks and the defence held them under 40pts.life good to them....i think haslett tired watching his clowns too,i know i am....i see no hope for this mess up team.....ty for your time
Jeff Gordon: Haslett's enthusiasm for extending his stay must really be on the wane.
Hopeless in Seattle: Will it ever get better?
Jeff Gordon: Apparently not.
Mike Martz: A-HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA...
Jeff Gordon: Yeah, well, Martz wasn't having so much fun against real teams this year.
Mr. Dick: Wow... just how deep is this pit that the Rams have fallen into? I am beginning to wonder if it has a bottom. Everytime you think it has gotten as bad as you think it possibly can, a new level of ineptitude is uncovered. Wow...
Jeff Gordon: I shutter to think how much worse it could still get. Might the Rams find still another level of ineptitude?
Tackleberry: Will Devaney and Co. turn this roster over this spring?
Jeff Gordon: A least a third of it will be gone, which is always the case. I'm guessing the Rams will be less inclined to still with the older guys for another year. The team will have to make decisions on Holt, Little and Pace.
lancegoldbergpainting: Hey Jeff,
Do I have to watch the second half? Can we play Brock Berlin, to see what he can do to help us determine our draft priorities?
Here is what I saw the first half....
1. Bulger sucks !!!
2. Fakhir Brown sucks !!!
3. Our whole defense sucks !!!
4. Our offensive play calling sucks !!!
It is SO HARD to watch this team currently...It is really HURTFUL !!!
Thanks for listening....Lance "Big Seed" Goldberg, of the L.A. MELONHEADS
Jeff Gordon: Hope you watched the second half, which was somewhat better. If that matters.
Lawarence Marmie: The plan not to blitz and instead sit back in soft coverage really seems to be working for this team. I think the one mistake that Venturi and Haslett have been making is they're not using the three man rush more often. That has been defensive gold for this team.
Jeff Gordon: The corner blitz worked like a charm in the second half. Craft got too sacks and almost a third.
wiramfan1: It is painfully clear that the Rams players have quit! It is also clear that the offense has no way to put any amount of fear in any team in the NFL. I am a 40 year Ram fan and I'm just ..... sick of it all. The Defense is ...is ? there is no word I can use to describe them.
I ask you this Gordo, what would it take to actually make an impact with these players? They are Gutless, classless, Clueless, pride-less, excuses of men.
Bulger, Pace and Jackson need to be off the roster next year! Start a young mobile QB so that he can grow with this young group of wideouts.
Mike Singltary gets his first win (a blow out) against the Lams.. Pathetic!
Jeff Gordon: Will Jackson be back from his injury next year? If not, the Rams can't do much with him.
Grimmsta: We really need to relieve ourselves of EVERYONE we can who still exist from the GSOT days. That culture still permeates the team. We're too laid back, like we're good enough to overcome things. No HUNGER, no DRIVE... just SOFTNESS, ineptness, and incompetence. Even when we were good, that attitude cost us against "hungry, physical teams".... It's ridiculous...
Jeff Gordon: Yes, it is.
St. Louis Rams Moving Crew: Hey Mr. Gordon,
We have all Mr. Haslett's property packed up and were wondering if you know where we should have it shipped?
Jeff Gordon: I'm guessing he'd love to be on vacation right now. That couldn't have been a pleasant flight home on the charter.
Ted D: Hey Gordo,
Can't these losers just forfeit the rest of the games and spare us the misery that is St. Louis Rams football?
Jeff Gordon: But the Bears fans want to come down for the game!
GoneGator: Hey Scott Linehan - my apologies. I truly thought it was you. But this team and its organization is just awful. I've been a fan since the Pat Haden days and I've NEVER been so embarrassed or angry in my life. The Rams are the worst team in the NFL - period. At least the Raiders try. But no one is doing anything on this team. And it's sickening. I cannot see how this team can be so bad. They are "supposed" to professionals.
Oh well, at least I have good football on Saturdays. Go Gators, and here's to next year! Thanks for letting us vent each week, Jeff.
Jeff Gordon: Scott brought a lot of these guys here, so you can still dog him if you like.
midnighter67: The way this team plays they should replace the American flags on their helmets with white flags.
Jeff Gordon: Good one.
Thomas: Hi Jeff;
Can you please explain the logic that is Minor returning kicks, and Looker returning punts?!?!? I cannot see how that will provide future benefit to the team....
Jeff Gordon: Looker's strength was supposed to be ball security, but he nearly fumbled a ball away. Same for Minor, who lacks burst. Why not let the kids handle these chores.
wiramfan1: If I were a coach on this team I would be in every ones face!
If I were a player on this team I would donate my last 2 paychecks! No question about it!
But as fan I can only sit here in shock? You see I care! I am ashamed and I'm not on the field! No PRIDE ! Put a uniform on my aging body and I would at least try, or dye trying!!!!
Jeff Gordon: I'm guessing not many of these guys will donate their paychecks, as admirable as that concept is.
Reg: Hey Gordo-
This is rediculous. Can this team be any worse? Well, at least we arent the Detroit Lions. We should use our top five draft pick next season to DRAFT A QUARTERBACK because we obviously dont have one.
Jeff Gordon: Are you ready to wait two or three for a QB to develop?
wtf?: Is it just me or does anyone else think JC Pearson is an idiot? I'd love to see the Rams improve if for no other reason than getting a better pair of announcers to call the game.
Jeff Gordon: Remember the Tim Green days back before the Greatest Show on Turf? That was tough, too.
Jim Haslett: #@%$ $@&%*$ #$@ &@#@$%# ##@%& @$&%@!!!
Jeff Gordon: That'll be 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct on the coaching staff.
Chris M - Columbus, Ohio: Gordo - I'm not sure what to say or who to complain about...75-3 the last four quarters of football? Fire the entire team except Avery and the kicker Brown!
I cant watch any more in Columbus (I want my NFL Sunday Ticket money back!)
Thanks!
Jeff Gordon: And Brown missed a field goal. And he angered his coach with a line-drive kickoff that got returned long. So even he isn't immune from heat after this one.
Tackleberry: Haslett knows that field goals are only worth 3-points, right? Just checking with the 29 point deficit and all.
Jeff Gordon: Come on, those field goals made us all feel better about the game. Or not.
Tom: So, it all needs to be blown up. Top to bottom. The ONLY player on the team that looks like a starter to me is Avery. I go quarterback, wide receiver, running back and then nothin but Oline and linebacker next year. You?
Jeff Gordon: I liked Pittman well enough for a No. 2 back. Burton and Stanley have hope. Ditto Long.
Woodstock: Time to change QBs!! I don't care who it is!
Jeff Gordon: Bulger did get to pad his stats in the second half, if anybody cares.
Jeff in California: What a pathetic performance. This team has absolutelt no heart. Marc Bulger has earned a seat on the bench as far as i'm concerned. I want a totally fresh start next year with new coach, quarteback and new coordintors. I am willing to put up with rebuilding for a few years than to keep watching this disaster.
Jeff Gordon: Haven't they already been rebuilding for a couple of years?
Jefftra: Once again getting slapped around by a bad SF team. We cant hardly score in garbage team. Im tired of watching Bulger get thrown out there.
Jeff Gordon: Yes, that was a bad SF team. For sure.
ram76fan: What a gutless performance. How do these guys live with themselves. do they even care?
Jeff Gordon: Some do, but they are very used to losing.
Rich: Jeff, what's the next move from ownership? Field Day or stay the course for now?
Jeff Gordon: There will be time to overhaul things after assessing all the damage after the season. And I thought Haslett had a chance to do good here. Oh, well.
Regie: Get rid of Marc Bulger.
Jeff Gordon: Why not start with benching him, then going from there?
GrievousAngel: Bernie said in his GDT that Adam Carriker is a bust. Do you concur?
Jeff Gordon: He has gotten handled this season. No way to sugar coat that. So, at the moment, he's a bust -- a tweener, a 3-4 end with nowhere to excel at this level. Not the first time that happened to a Nebraska guy.
Aaron Hickerson: Jeff
Rams need to cut Torry Holt, Drew Bennet, Steven Jackson, Orlando Pace, and Marc Bulger. Antonio Pittman is better than Steven Jackson, Donnie Avery, Derek Stanley, and Kenneth Burton are faster than Torry Holt and cutting all these people allow you to cut Marc Bulger still pay him and get a better Quarterback
Jeff Gordon: There is no sense in cutting Jackson, despite the injuries. The cap hit would be astronomical. If he plays again in his lifetime, he can help change things.
the video dead: this is really sad - it's come to this, me just hoping for garbage pts. for my fantasy team. we can't even put those up anymore. my bad for starting any rams.
at least i have forte going next week!
Jeff Gordon: I had Avery in this game and he racked up points. Too bad Looker got the late TD. Could have used that.
thamnosma: Jeff, we are darn lucky to have John Shaw and Jay Zygmunt running this organization. They're the greatest.
Jeff Gordon: Well, they won't be running it for much longer.
Christian Slater: Wasn't able to watch this one (*makes the sign of the cross*)...
How did Mad Mike look? Any close-ups of his face? Was it that giddily maniacal look a la '03 when the Panthers missed that OT field goal?
Jeff Gordon: He was having fun, hugging his players, smiling large. And why not?
ramhorns: How can Haslett possibly get some life out of these guys for the remaining games? They can't expect to win playing like this. Jimmy Johnson was really critical of Haslett and the coaching staff during halftime. I say start Berlin the rest of the season mainly because they have nothing to lose. Would you agree with this??
Jeff Gordon: At some point, I might take a look at Berlin. But since Haslett isn't sure he will be here next year, he has no reason to play for next year.
Philj: It's a real special place and time to be a Rams fan these days eh Gordo?
I mean it's like the perfect storm of crappiness
Jeff Gordon: Yeah, a 35-3 deficit to a 2-7 team is pretty remarkable. Hard to do that.
rockintheburbs: Jeff what up,
was Chris Long active today... Did we get any pressure at all other than on Cornerback Blitz's?
Jeff Gordon: Long was OK, but, no, there wasn't enough pressure other than the CB blitzes. Nothing much in the first half when the game was on the line.
shippdean: This is after the defense "re-grouped?"
Why can't this team just do the basics?
The owner needs to sell this team to someone that knows football and not lipstick and ball gowns in LA movies. Just sell this team for pennies on the dollar to ANYONE other than these THIEVS that own them now!
Like usuall, NOTHING will be done today, tomorrow, next week, during the offseason, the draft, pre-season,...this team doesn't have bad games it has bad DECADES.
Jeff Gordon: The franchise price may go down a bit because of the economy and the lack of financing out there, but the bad W-L record doesn't hurt it much.
studebaker: Haslett called the team out and in effect stated that it was the players and NOT the coaches.. not about the x's and O's. The players response makes me believe that they Quit on this coaching staff. Your thoughts..Thanks
Jeff Gordon: That's a fair assessment. The player response was vivid. Like Jim said after the game, he doesn't know where to go from here.
Rob: Jeff My favorite play was 8:00 in the fourth when the niners ran the wildcat and Pisa decided he was going to run past the guy with the ball to try to tackle the guy who was running on the outside. The linebackers are lost out there and even Witherspoon looks like he has given up. I think it's time to move WW and get us a stud up the middle.
Jeff Gordon: Will was a disappointment in this game. That Pisa made the wrong read is no shock.
Jefftra: Coach Haslet promised changes if he didn't see effort when he took over. After the last 3 weeks I have seen no effort and no changes. I guess he is just another politician. Haslet has never proven anything in this league except one pretty good year in NO. I know this isn't all his fault, they need to hold Jay Zigmunt responsible.
Jeff Gordon: Yes, Jay will be held accountable. As for Jim and changes, there is not much he can do. Several guys got hurt in this game so he made changes. But it's not like there are guys sitting at home, waiting to win games here.
Sideways777: Hiya Gordo,
I don't know about you...but I'm just numb anymore watching our Rams. Been a fan since '69, I I honestly don't think I've seen a worse group. Im one of the folks to jump on Bulger, but you know what?? It's not just him, and IF he had a better supporting cast, his numbers would probably reflect it. My question is, I keep hearing these announcers laying everything on the absence of S. Jackson. Personaly I don't think it will make much difference when he's in, what do you think?? Thanks for taking the time Gordo.
Greg
Long Beach, CA
Jeff Gordon: Pittman came out with two big runs and it didn't help. He also did a nice job catching the ball. So, in this case, there was no excuse.
niteshiftbluez: Don't hate on me Gordo
*but*
I still like Bulger. I don't think he's the problem and I saw some glimmers of playing with heart today.
Jeff Gordon: His throws into heavy coverage cost the Rams any hope of winning the game. And he failed to make downfield plays throughout. He got some numbers late against a prevent defense in garbage time, but his first-half mistakes were egregious.
Maybe he is salvageable. But turning it around here, after all this losing, will be tough.
He is not alone, of course, but he is getting Pro Bowl dollars to play. It's fair to ask more from him.
Paul W.: as i said last week, haslett is not the answer. gotta start by finding a real GM. then, do whatever it takes to get spagnoulo to leave the giants and come here to become head coach for 10 years. lastly, make sure that every player on the roster EARNS his way into the lineup.
p.s. bulger has got to go--we might be able land stafford from georgia since the bengals wont draft a qb.
Jeff Gordon: That kid is pretty raw. In three years he might help you in the NFL.
Philj: I mean what kind of team tunes out the coaching staff and why?
Do they think they know a better way and are just tanking it out of spite?
Or is it because there is no real accountability throughout the whole orginazation due to the interim ownership?
I mean if you got players that wont listen to coaches, who just go through the motions on gameday, showing no profesionalism in the process
I dont think I want players like that on my team
Jeff Gordon: When a group loses enough games, this is what happens. The Rams can't get it out of their system. They have given in to it.
RamFanNot: This team kinda makes you wistful for the old Sorry A** Rams, doesn't it?
Jeff Gordon: Ah, the memories . . .
JERZEEMO: Jeff who can we blame now I've run out of people in the organization? This must be sweet for Martz and Bruce! Who would be a head coaching candidate willing to take on this fragile team?
Jeff Gordon: The Niners may not win another game -- unless it is here against the Rams. So their party tonight will be brief.
RamFanInPA: The worst thing in the world is to be hopeless, until Chip sells the team and "real" football people are put in charge there is no hope. What is the latest regarding the sell of the team?
Obviously, the Rams and the Raiders jobs are going to be least attractive to a coach. Sad.
Jeff Gordon: The team's on-field failure won't set his timetable. That decision depending more on the bidders and what else is going on with Chip's world.
danthefan: Gordo,
Do tou know the names of any good antigue shops? I think I would rather go shopping than to watch this team!
Jeff Gordon: In greater St. Louis, you have lots of options. I'm partial to the St. Charles riverfront.
Jimbo in Sioux City: Gordo
Would the Rams look to the collegiate level for a new head coach - like a Ferentz at Iowa or Pelini at Nebraska. Bo really seems to have turned the page in Lincoln and the Huskers have bought into the program.
Jeff Gordon: Few, if any, college coaches could do anything at this level. Unless you get Pete Carroll . . .
playmaker: How would you rank these 5 teams after week 11?
Rams 2-8
Raiders 2-8
Seahawks 2-8
Bengals 1-8-1
Lions 0-10
Jeff Gordon: Bengals 1-8-1
Seahawks 2-8
Rams 2-8
Raiders 2-8
Lions 0-10
Jack J: Gordo,
You would think with a 35 point score in the first half, the Rams were playing a good team not a 2-7 team. The Rams sure make even a 2-7 team look like a 7-2 team. Coach Haslett was asked where he goes from here and he reply was he didn't really know. That is not good.
Every week the Rams play like this today, is another nail in Haslett's change to be retained for next season. I guess we were all fooled by those wins against Dallas and Washington. There is not quick fix here. The players have just quit. I don't think Haslett can do anything about it and I am not sure another coach can either. It appears Haslett will not be back next year so we will probably find out next year.
Jeff Gordon: I'm guessing you are correct.
joe passamonte: speechless.
Jeff Gordon: (Silence)
playmaker: Today's loss against the 49ers clinched the 5th consecutive non-winning season for the Rams. The longest such streak since the Rams moved to St.Louis. And it marks the 10th such time it has happened since the Rams moved to St.Louis in 14 seasons.
So my question is this. Will the Rams persue a Scott Pioli or Bill Polian this offseason to become the Director of Player Personal?
Jeff Gordon: Billy Devaney is a pretty good personnel guy. But who will be president? Who will be coach? Who will own the team?
Sideways777: I think the defense would be a lot better with a few simple additions.
1. A GOOD Strong Safety
2. A REAL runstuffing MLB
3. A TRUE Noseguard
Also...why are we playing so much man to man?? Obviously it isn't working too well.
Thanks Gordo for enduring the chats after these whoopings...
Greg
Long Beach, CA
Jeff Gordon: What, you don't like Craft and Brown playing man-to-man?
Don't forget OT on your wish list.
Ozy Rams Fan: Hello Gordo,
I hope you put in a claim for combat pay with this duty.
How much worse can it get, and unlike some people I consider this a big riverly game for old time Rams fans. For me that is is number one game each year.
In total and anger and frustration over my Rams team, I would like to offer Jay zygmont to be put in shackles and publicly displayed in downtown Stl(bring your rotten fruit).
What a moron, Mike Martz got sold short by the rams, and the Rams are paying a huge price. Nobody can believe that Martz couldn't get more out of the same Rams team.
After my rant , Ill say I agree with you Gordo about Haslett, even though the most blame should be put on the player. Haslett has this team at sub Losahan level, I can't accept 75-3 scoring in the last 2 game first half.
I was hoping for the best after the first 2 games.
As thing are now, your only option is to bring in a new coach and have a spring cleaning like never before. Even the good players on the team seem to be infected,
Have a good week Gordo
Jeff Gordon: And that is why change is needed. Maybe Haslett can turn the team when it returns home, but three straight first-half collapses tell quite a story. First sign of trouble and guys bail.
playmaker: Gordo,
It appears to me that people are losing interest in this team. People that used to be die hard fans just can't watch the cuurent style of "football" that the Rams are currently playing. I think that the franchise has lost a good portion of it's fan base that will probably not be back anytime soon. Next weeks game against the Bears should be interesting. I predict the Dome is 70% filled with Bears fans.
Jeff Gordon: Although that is a long way to drive to watch THAT team.
Josh: Honestly, has there ever been a worse season in Rams history? Even in the early days we were somewhat competitive. I'm not sure if I've ever seen us fail to put up any sort of fight in back to back games like this.
Jeff Gordon: It's heading toward "worst-ever" given some of these lopsided scores.
dwight: Gordo what's with all the field goals when you're down by thirty? Also what's up with all the short passes?
Jeff Gordon: Just trying to get something to build on. It beats throwing into double coverage and turning the ball over on downs or interceptions.
Josh: Over/Under: 3 years until we return to the playoffs?
Jeff Gordon: It could be done next year, in this division, with fewer injuries and much better leadership from the top on down.
Jefftra: I can see what will likely happen. The dome will be half empty rest of season(except Bears game). They are gonna be awful for years to come, which means fans won't be filling the place. By that time ownership will want to move and be blaming no support for their team and worst stadium in the league. Who would support that crap!
Jeff Gordon: Perhaps a new owner with strong Missouri ties could turn the tide by hiring the right people at the top.
Chris M - Columbus, Ohio: Do these guys actually cash their pay checks? If I were the Rams I would put a stop payment notice on all player paychecks...and Jay Zygmunt too!
Jeff Gordon: The players association wouldn't like that.
Joe T: When does Mike Vick get out of prison? Do desperate times call for desperate measures?
Jeff Gordon: Um . . . they aren't that desperate. When Vick comes out, will somebody hire him to run a "Wildcat" offense full-time?
Sideways777: I keep hearing the "Fragile mental state" of the Rams from coaches and media. I think that's actually worse than the days of the Greatest show being labeled "Soft". I mean...if any of these guys start buying into the label...they're doomed for sure. Maybe that's what has happened a bit?
Greg
Long Beach, CA
Jeff Gordon: Sure, the players buy that. Once a game turns, they fold and shrug off the failure as inevitable.
niteshiftbluez: By now there's usually a LOT more chat . . . no one even wants to talk about this mess, eh Gordo?
It was good to see Bruuuuce and loved that he's still smiling. It was even good to see Mad Mike, altho' I noticed he still needs a better support bra. (Meow:)
Jeff Gordon: That was totally uncalled for.
Jefftra: Hey Gordo, if you were a good free-agent, why would you even consider coming to this mess?
Jeff Gordon: That depends on who is running the team and what the ownership looks like.
mightymike105: Gordo. I've watched a lot of St. Louis football over the years and you've watched and covered it. Is this the worst team we've ever had? The old Cardinal teams were usually bad but they played in the old NFC East and were usually over matched and lacked the depth to compete. But u know what? At least they tried most of the time. So did the Rams when they were losing a lot before the glory years here. These guys? I just can't remember in all the years of football here watching a team in which so many games in one season have been over at halftime. Jeff I like Haslett but I do not know if he is the anwer. This team still lacks passion and execution. In all fairness, the defense has gotten worse each year he has been here. I know the offense has made a lot of turnovers in past weeks but still teams move the ball with or without a turnover with ease. I mean at will! Haslettt's hands are all over this defensive group and his hands are dirty. And it all can't be blamed on bad drafts and free agents. Coaching is involved to. I think coach is about done here unless some miracles happen.
Worst offense ever in St. Louis? Up there. Lots of turnovers, few points. Bulger? Horrible desicions even when protected. Pace? Hurt again. Richie? Yep him to. Grounhog day once more. Gordo when will the horror end?
Oh, I remember. In about 6 weeks.
Jeff Gordon: Fair point on the "D" -- a lot of those guys are "his" guys, Brown. The results speak for themselves.
Scott: What HC is going to want to come here next year? What a disaster.
Jeff Gordon: Offer power, money and respected leadership at the president level and you will get lots of applicants.
RAMFAN69: Hi Gordo!
thx 4 your answer. In your opinion who should we blame the most for this pathetic season?
Chip ?
the management?
Mike Martz?
the coaches? or
the players?
because this team now is a puzzle, and I do not know who should we blame!
I think in some degree all of the above has some responsability but, I think we can point our fingers at one of the mentioned.
it won't fix anything but,we can get some relief !
thx again !
Jeff Gordon: Don't blame Chip, he just took over. Jay and John picked Linehan and created a massive leadership vacuum at the top. That is the root of all that is wrong today.
Scott Linehan: I really don't see what everyone's getting so down on Jim Haslett for- he's doing everything correctly. If I were still coach, I wouldn't change a thing. Even his press conferences are so Linehanesque that I have to take a moment to realize that it's not me up there. His usage of the tightends borders on brilliant and Venturi's passive defense reminds me of those really complex and exotic game plans that Jim himself used to come up with. If they just refuse to change anything and just forge ahead with what they'll doing- it's going to translate into wins before you know it!!!
Jeff Gordon: Actually, Jim's news conferences are much better than Scott's. So there's that.
BakoCAramFan: Heartless. Gutless. Couldn't beat UCLA, this year's team.
Don't know why, but I can't stop watching them. How stupid is that?
Jeff Gordon: You sure UCLA could contain Joe Klopfenstein?
soulardx: any word on the injuries? Pace, bartell, Incognito?
Jeff Gordon: We'll know more Monday, but Pace, especially, is a concern.
stevieray1967: How realistic is it to think that the Rams could sign Matt Casell for next year?
Jeff Gordon: Expect lots of bidding on him. Not too many other young veterans ready to start out there.
Josh: Could this be one of the more disappointing seasons in recent St. Louis history? My frame of reference only goes back to the early 90s but I cannot remember a single time where I only had one team to root for that would make a postseason (Mizzou football amazingly). I'll give it to the Cardinals, they fought hard all year and were just undermanned, but jeez this has been a rough year.
Jeff Gordon: I didn't expect much with Linehan at the helm, but this was still stunningly bad.
JERZEEMO: Jeff,
If its mental or being fragile go play flag football! These guys are bums Bulger is not worth his contract or Steven Jackson! Hopefully Zygmutt is gone and we clean house! So Him whose are next coach in your opinion? This next draft is weak in some areas especially QB, WR, OL, CB in depth? We need a center badly on the offensive line plus a LT maybe fre agency?
Jeff Gordon: The Rams would be well-advised to draft an OT first, since there some real good ones coming out.
Ozy Rams Fan: Gordo,
As a long time NFL and Rams fan.
I have to i agree with some others out there, saying this team should forfeit the rest of their games and return ticketholders money. They willn't do it, but in reality that has been the case from the cards game.
Next is year will be gloomy also unless there major wholesale changes.
Jeff Gordon: Perhaps ticket holders could sue the team for fraud.
Kevin Pruitt: Jeff,
Which of the Rams 2nd and 3rd year players have improved the most this year? Maybe we can start rebuilding with them (and of course our rookie class) and get rid of everyone else!!
How many years can Arizona win the West division?
Thanks again for your service.
Jeff Gordon: Arizona could win a couple more years, even if the team elects to move the unhappy Boldin. They found their future RB in Hightower.
Stanley is sort of a second-year guy and he's gotten much better. Clifton Ryan, too. I like Adeyanju as a run-stopping DE.
mizzourah1986: How about trying to get Byron Leftwich for next year, do you know his contract status with Pittsburgh?
Jeff Gordon: Not sure if Pittsburgh controls him past this year, but a guy like could offer real competition for Bulger -- assuming Marc comes back one more time.
steelyram: gordo next time you are in the locker please take a collection because i should not have to pay for my nfl ticket to watch this collection of over payed under achievers. that includes the coaching staff. we are so far behind the rest of the nfl it is a joke. the lions are more competitive
Jeff Gordon: Detroit put up a fight today, anyway. But I still have grave doubts about that bunch.
Josh: I don't want to sell Jackson under the bus because I'm not entirely sure how bad the injury effects him, but is there any word at all if he is planning on playing again this season? I'm not trying to attack his character here, but he is legitimately the only shot we have at winning and he never plays.
Jeff Gordon: We needle him, but he will play again this year. He has been close, of course, but that injury is easy to aggravate.
How badly does he really want to play? Given the circumstances, you wonder.
Paulyseed: This was the worst I have seen the Rams play all year. I kept hearing those words uttered by Ken Norton. You know he said,\"Same old sorry ass Rams.\" That was the first year in St Louis the Rams versus the Niners. When Orlando Pace went down I was thinking here we go again and in the second half Orlando was shown in his tee shirt standing up with no problem yucking it up with some Rams trainer. I got to work sick and sometimes with a stiff back or pain in my legs. If i can walk I go to work. Orlando if you can walk you can play too pal. That is just laziness Orlando Pace not toughing it out for the team. If Orlando is now relegated to being a paycheck collector then he should just do us Rams fans a favor and RETIRE. Orlando \"with no heart\" Pace. And speaking of that Marc Bulger looks stiffer than Tony Banks or Steve Walsh out there. Coach Haslett please put Trent Green in there at least Trent Green will try. I hope the Rams draft a QB and put the Bulger era to bed in the past where Bulger belongs.
By the way what is Kurt Warner doing these days?
Jeff Gordon: He's doing OK in Arizona, isn't he?
All the Rams need know is a knucklehead to punch the goal post after scoring.
Lawarence Marmie: Hey Gordo- here's a joke that applies to these Rams:
Q: Why did the monkey fall out of the tree?
A: Because it was dead
Jeff Gordon: Larry is in rare form, again.
Josh: Should they maybe implement some kind of mercy rule in football? Possibly a fan cell phone vote if your team goes down more then 30 in the first half. 1 for give up and 2 for keep playing. At least this way we wouldn't have to sit through 30 minutes of worthless football two weeks in a row.
Jeff Gordon: Come on, that was exhibition football at its finest. And Avery did OK for my fantasy team, TonyBanksDog.
Reg: We dont need to wait a 2 or 3 years. Look at Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco. Were they just once in a lifetime picks? You cant say that there isnt a quarterback in college who couldnt make an immediate impact or at least be better than bulger. Yeah our line sucks but a younger qb with fire and heart would at least provide some excitement and hope. Bulger looks like he just doesnt care when he plays.
Jeff Gordon: Flacco had some favorable match-ups and did OK. Today was another matter. He had a 58.1 passer rating against the Giants.
lovie smith: Hey Gordo,
I can't wait to come to St. Louis this weekend- this pathetic Rams offense will make me look like a defensive genius again!!!
P.S.
Even I think your defense is boring and I only know one play.
Jeff Gordon: After losing 37-3 at Green Bay, I bet the Bears are very glad to be coming to the STL.
MrChip: Any good signs?
Jeff Gordon: Nope.
steelyram: gordo what is the reason haslett and co do not play or refuse to play younger players, also how bad is when the rams first stringers have ahard time moving the ball against the whinners 2nd stringers
Jeff Gordon: Greco might get a chance at guard, if he is healthy this week. He was moving into position. We saw Vobora in this game, along with the kid WRs and Pittman. Jim just wants to win a game. He'll play the best players.
Sideways777: I saw one play that kinda bothered me... Avery on a screen, 3rd or 4th quarter. You could see 3 secondary guys about to cream him boxed in on the sideline...so he stepped out. Haslett then seemed to give him an earful about not turning it upfield. I dunno...I know your trying to get players fired up...but, I think that was a heads up play by a rookie.
Greg
Long Beach, CA
Jeff Gordon: I'm not a fan of little WRs trying to go "Braveheat" out there and take big hits. The Rams fell behind 35-3. So why would any one individual be eager to go out on his shield?
Stang52: How much longer before Coach Haslett bench's this entire bunch of losers and let the kids play? Bolger's too gunshy play a game of flag football these days. The defense is too worn out by the time the 2 quarter comes around do to all the turnovers of the offense. Is Bolger shooting for a new record of most intercepts in a season? He's well on his way. I know, loserhan's responsible for most of these losers and he didn't have much to work with to begin thanks to the mad hatter Martz before him.
Jeff Gordon: What kids? We mentioned Greco. Schuening hasn't been close. Culberson plays, Long plays, Carriker and Ryan play . . . what kids? Berlin isn't a kid, he is a perennial No. 3.
ramsman95: I STILL AM A RAMS FAN AND ALWAYS WILL BE . THE THING THAT BOTHERS ME MORE THAN LOSING IS THE LACK OF HUSTLE AND DESIRE SHOWED WEEK IN AND OUT. COME ON RAMS PLAY THE GAME LIKE IT SHOULD BE PLAYED.
Jeff Gordon: Nah, they'd rather not.
Nick: Gordo,
Nevermind his ability on the field, how much does this team miss Bruce's LEADERSHIP this year? Like you said, we have the talent, we are just missing some direction.
Jeff Gordon: His leadership didn't help much last year, so I'm not sure I'd make a big deal about that.
spotzee: Hi Gordo:
It's obvious this team has quit and needs to be torn apart, along with the front office. I'm done with Zygmunt, Shaw, et. al. who chased out Mike Martz...and for what? The blame falls squarely on Zymunt and Shaw's shoulder's and should also include Georgia. She brought them in and allowed the team to be run by those guys.
Now, after those guys are GONE I'm totally in favor of moving Bulger to the bench (he looks great in a baseball cap) and let Green finish the year at quarterback. In the front office the team needs smart football people who can pick good players, and keep good players on the roster. I'm sorry but Drew Bennett is a joke (again enjoy the bench; it probably is too big a cap hit to dump him) and should never have replaced Isaac Bruce. Compare the stats between the 2 and tell me Bennett is better. I dare you...I double dare you.
Who do you think should be the head coach? I thought Martz should NEVER have been let go...no what???
Dave
Jeff Gordon: Martz did more than enough to get fired as head coach and get passed over by every team looking for a new head coach, including SF. His draft mistakes is just one issue plaguing this team today, but it is a big factor.
lancegoldbergpainting: Jeff,
Seriously, shouldn't we play Brock Berlin? The season is lost. We need to see if Berlin can play. If he's as good, or better as some rookie QB would be, then we can address our other TEN GAPING HOLES in the draft !!!
Thanks....
Jeff Gordon: Berlin turned 27 this season and he has played one regular season NFL game in his career. There is probably a reason for that.
But he did have a nice camp and at some point it would be nice to see him out there, just to see what might be there.
hack: Jeff - name 3 guys pulling their weight right now and 3 who aren't, thanks.
Also - Atogwe for Pro Bowl.
Jeff Gordon: O.J. is pulling his weight. So are Avery and Bartell, when healthy.
Not pulling weight? Aside from these three and the kickers, there is not a lot to talk up.
ottoman89: So Pisa did really good *rolls eyes*
I'm sick of seeing him play out of place, play freestyle D, miss his gaps, get beat by Tight Ends and Running Backs in the passing game, missing tackles, BEING HURT.
Any chance we see a new WLB or Witherspoon at WLB and bring in another MLB?
Jeff Gordon: That was a terrible game for Pisa. There is another spot where the team may need to upgrade. He, like Archuleta, was once a pretty good player.
The Federal Government: We had an emergency session of Congress today to formulate a plan to bail out the auto industry, but after watching the Rams play the past few weeks, we realize that there are organizations in greater need to being bailed out than Chyrsler. However, after 8 hrs of brainstorming, we see no way of saving this team.
Jeff Gordon: Money alone will not fix this.
mailman51: Next year-Draft a left tackle in the first round. Draft a QB in the second. Middle lanbacker in the third. Another Avery in the 4th. Trade Jackson and Bulger for whatever draft choices they can get (Green starts for me next year). Drfat OLine help with those people. Hope for a 6-10 team and playoffs the following year. ...a plan?
Jeff Gordon: Bulger has no trade value, not with that contract. Trading Jackson at his age, with his contract, coming off an injury year, isn't likely to bring a huge yield.
griffin: I have been a football fan in this town for 40 years and I think this is the worst team, Rams or Cardinals, I have ever seen play in St. Louis. Am I jumping to conclusions?
Jeff Gordon: Not at all -- 40-0 at the half, 35-3 at the half, that just doesn't happen in this league.
bluesteel: I am out of duct tape. I think my head is about to explode. Am I crazy, I live in KC and have not missed a home game the last two years. I need an intervention. Tell me am I really watching a NFL Team play or Am I imagining this.
Jeff Gordon: Wish I could tell you this was a dream.
CoachRon: Gordo, Jackson to IR, then negotiate an injury settlement with him! Does that help avoid the huge cap hit? Then if it works with him the Rams can nudge Bulger that way if it is possible to go on the IR with PTSD...
Pittman ran well enough early to set up some play-action but instead we get chuck-and-duck INTs. As for the O-line, gee, it bothers me to see any lineman not engaged with a defender in some fashion as the play is blown dead. Is it just me or does Barron earn a lot of money for that front-row spectator seat he has?
Jeff Gordon: On the first year of THAT contract, there is no bailing out on Jackson.
mrjondgray: Do you have any rational explanation for why this team can be competitive against the Cowboys, Redskins and Patriots (at least two of these, if not three, will be playoff teams) and then take a 180 degree turn? Is there something going on behind the scenes we're not seeing?
Jeff Gordon: Injuries are a piece of it, but, really, the group has just gotten used to losing. Once the initial buzz from the coaching change wore off, the group reverted.
Tony Banks: Hi Jeff ole buddy still have a few left in this old arm. Can you put in a good word for me.
Jeff Gordon: TB! He would go down in a blaze of cannon shots. Give him that.
rockintheburbs: Whats up with Carriker he didn't register a tackle in the box score. How do you evaluate d tackles is he a bust like Jimmy Kennedy? Damione Lewis starts for Carolina now is Carriker just gonna be like Damione Lewis not very good..... or does Carriker need to be back at d end..... fill me in on your opinion of Carriker so far in his firts year and a half in the league
Jeff Gordon: He is getting pushed around, basically. He is not quick enough to play outside or strong enough to dominate inside.
mailman51: I'm wi9th Haslett. It's on the players. I'm Ok with Haslett sticking around next year. All but Avery, Long, and Brown are trade bait and expendable for any round draft choices.
Jeff Gordon: Again, teams aren't going to give high picks for these guys. They just aren't.
Cheerios: Okay I know everyone says Berlin is not an NFL QB, but did not everyone say that about Fitzpatrick and Warner before they got their chances?
Why not let Berlin play and see what he can do...he may not be long term answer, but maybe he can be a backup or maybe even a short term solution.
We still have a fair amount of talent, mainly in young players...let more play....yes we need to win some games....but I doubt they could do any worse that our veterans
Jeff Gordon: At some point, sure, play him. He did well in the preseason. He's a great guy. But finding another Warner is a 100-1 shot.
Murat from PA: Hello Gordo;
This season I have the feeling that if we are inside the opponent's 40 yard line, the best we can do is a field goal. Why does the Rams offense get progressively worse as we get closer to the goal line?
Thanks,
Murat
Jeff Gordon: Not a new problem with this group. With a healthy Jackson and McMichael, it might be better.
lancegoldbergpainting: Hey Jeff,
Did you notice our first scoring opportunity....On 3rd and goal, from the five yard line, Bulger looked to the left, Holt was covered and Bulger threw it away.
There was LITTLE to NO PRESSURE on Bulger. He didn't look at all to the right, where we had two receivers in the end zone. ANY OTHER QB would at least try to BUY SOME TIME and look to the right, roll to the right, or something, not just give up on the play...IT WAS 3RD AND GOAL FROM THE FIVE.
Bulger is such a sissy !!!
Jeff Gordon: Better that, on that play, than an INT. We saw those later.
hack: Jeff-
Do the Jackson haters really think Pittman did better than SJ would've? The Dallas game was all because of his running.
Jeff Gordon: The Jackson haters just want the guy to play and actually earn his check. I've been a Jackson apologist over time, but this is exasperating.
Nick: Say what you will about Linehan, Shaw, and Zygmunt...and we did when they drafted him.....but Donnie Avery has shown he belongs in this league and should be the go to guy for years to come.
Jeff Gordon: Great tools there. A little raw, but he is a player.
Jefftra: Jeff
The Rams are the worst team in NFL. At least Raiders, Bengals, Lions are putting up a fight.
Jeff Gordon: I'd bet on the Rams over the Raiders.
Good dollars gone to waste:: I feel foolish to have spent money on both our PSLs and season tickets. I feel even more foolish to consider using our remaining tickets. For my "entertainment" dollar I feel like a fan who has been fleeced.
Jeff Gordon: Can't blame you. I'd hate to be the Rams marketing department.
Stang52: At point I'm not sure Coach Haslett would want to return next year. It's a shame, he's a quality coach who did a heck of a job in New Orleans. Only a complete remake of this team from top to bottom, bench the ones who are just collecting a paycheck and let the youth have a chance, they can't do any worse.
Jeff Gordon: Again, there aren't blue-chip players just sitting around, waiting to go in.
smackuprams: will this playing bad rub off on the young guys, hurt them alot
Jeff Gordon: Losing wears out everybody in time. That is why there needs to be a climate change.
Bob: Gordo,
There is no way in God's Green Earth that this pathetic lot wins another game this season. BOOK IT! Hopefully, the demoliton will begin in 7 weeks. I hope Haslett and Co. didn't put down deposits on homes in St. Louis. By the way, Pace? Hurt? I can't beleive it!!!! Cut this load once and for all!!!!!
Jeff Gordon: That's a little tough on Pace, who could be in the Hall of Fame. But he might be about done.
gooth4: The Rams looked absolutely horrible!
This franchise needs to re-build.
What are the chances that Martz puts in an order for Torry Holt, Bulger, or any of the other Rams? What are the chances we can get some draft picks, or some up n comers for them? How soon?
Jeff Gordon: Martz might be unemployed next year, so unless he is hiring those guys to do his lawn . . .
Josh: Are we even sure another coach is going to want this job? Think about it. We are terrible. We are a few years at minimum from competing again and in a few years a good portion of our better players will be gone or retired. Our front office is an absolute mess. The franchise might move. What coach wants to deal with that. Its no Oakland, but damn its close.
Jeff Gordon: NFL jobs are scarce. A lot of people would want the shot.
steelyram: it is amazing that we don't hear any players nnames on defense where was long, little witherspoon todat i saw a pathetic attempt by witherspoon trying to tackle gore, you would have thought we were playing the whinners with montana and walsh when a nobody nlike roger craig would gash us for hall of fame numbers. are we this bad????
Jeff Gordon: Yep.
Dan from AZ: Hello Sir
Any word yet on Pace and Incognito?
Why Minor returning kicks as weak as we are at RB?
Thanks
Jeff Gordon: That'll be a good question for Haslett Monday.
ottoman89: Is Pace immune to criticism? He's often injured now and often making rookie mistakes and playing poorly, yet people aim at Barron (who I believe has played better), Bell (who's underachieved) and Leckey.
Same goes to Glover. He gets shoved around, misses tackles, and gets little rush.
Torry Holt quit on a few plays until the ball came his way.
How about them, why don't they catch heat?
I don't think Haslett is the problem, I think he can fix the problem with a full offseason as Head Coach. Him and Deavey could make a nice team, we already know Shaw and Zygmunt are gone after this season. Haslett's Rams started off hot and now they quit, only Jesus Christ knows why, but its not Haslett. We seen how they can play under Haslett. It's our leaders.
Holt, Bulger, Glover, Chavous - All emotionless, no fire or intensity. Look at teams around the league, the leaders are fiery, intense, focused and tough. We don't have that. I think that's why the Rams have quit on Haslett, because the leaders haven't responded. And aren't the same people Haslett is or same type at that. If we had a few emotional, fiery, guys who carry emotions on there sleeves, I think this team would be alot different.
But KEEP HASLETT.
Jeff Gordon: A lot of those old guys might be at the end here. That is a huge issue, since they are getting paid so much this season. Holt and Pace just don't seem to have a lot left.
lancegoldbergpainting: Jeff,
You're crazy !!! That "something to build on" stuff is BS !!! I agree
that when you're down by thirty, you don't kick field goals !!! Putting
a good drive together in a blowout loss does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for any team
when the next game is a week away!!! Also, why did we kick deep at the end
of the game, and then use our timeouts to get the ball back?
Why no onsides kick? If I was the coach, I would try to win the game all
the way until the final second. THAT is the MESSAGE to send to these
UNDERACHEIVING players !!!
Where should I send my resume?
Jeff Gordon: Nothing good comes from continuing to turn the ball over while try to gun back from a 32-point deficit. Haslett just used the rest of the game as a practice to execute some things.
ceaser: What would Carroll Rosenbloom do with this team if he were alive today? Jeff i mean honestly this is nonsense.Chip's dad must be turning over in his grave!
Jeff Gordon: This is not the first Rams team to collapse in his absence.
Da Rams28: What a pathetic embarrassing "football team". There are a lot teams that lack talent (i.e. SanFran, KC) that play with heart and play smart sound football. You and the rest of the local media need to put out to the organization to what the paying fans are saying. This horsesh*t is UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jeff Gordon: The Rams understand how the fans feel. It's been brought up.
Deanroc: You keep saying are we willing to wait two to three years for a rookie qaurterback to develop. as if bulger is what youd call a developed quarterback? if thats the case then lets get an undeveloped quarterback and add some excitement to this horror show.Ive seen way too much of this DEVELOPED quarterback.
Jeff Gordon: Bulger has played at the Pro Bowl level -- and you saw what losing did to him. Subject a kid to that and you have Joey Harrington.
Sideways777: Your a lot more Privy to inner workings of the Rams then us poor mutts Jeff. How much "Inside" info do the players have as far as the structure of the organization, ownership, and management? I mean... do these guys really feel like they're on a sinking ship org. wise? Hence the giving up? Or is it just poor team chemistry? Like you mentioned...take some of these guys and throw them on different teams and they'd shine.
Greg
Long Beach, CA
Jeff Gordon: Everybody knows that Chip is an interim owner. Until that is resolved, building a great organization will be tough.
true fan: gordo...during the halftime show, jimmy johnson said that a team in the rams situation basically plays hard come sunday, but that doesn't matter b/c the team has gone thru the motions during the week, and are not prepared. thus, come gametime, it doesn't matter if you play hard b/c you're not ready/prepared. you're around the rams...thoughts? finally, what's really sad is that a team like detroit is 0-10 but actually competes every week and is in most games. i truly believe if they played next week, detroit would "climb" to 1-10 and the rams would fall to 2-9. thoughts?
Jeff Gordon: Well, Jimmy has coached really good teams in the NFL and at least one truly horrible one. These Rams are the like the Dallas team Jimmy took over -- losing has overwhelmed it.
Maybe the Rams work hard during the week, but there is no real belief. That is the difference.
RamFan: Hi Gordo
Do you know where I can get a new remote for the TV, the one I have fell apart mysteriously when the wall hit it.
Jeff Gordon: At least you didn't throw it through a window.
Nick: Gordo,
For everyone out there who says things can't get any worse.....
Remember, Matt Millen is a free agent right now
Jeff Gordon: Is he having lunch with Chip Monday?
zertrat: Haslett has coached really lousy defenses for years. Statistically, as a DC he was, remarkably, even a dropoff from Marmie. The first half play in the last two games has highlighted that the single worst thing about the Rams, above and beyond any player or other individual factor, is bad defensive scheme. And yet Haslett has the reputation locally of being a tough guy. Have you ever heard of a coach with a flacid defense being considered a tough guy?
Jeff Gordon: The scheme is the least of the team's worries. The same scheme would work fine in another setting. Same with the offense.
isaacbrucefan: Please tell me we are going to blow up this team from top to bottom....I am at a loss as to why Chip isn't already making the moves in the Front Office,. The sooner we start there....the sooner we can start rebuilding this franchise.
Jeff Gordon: Chip would limit his options by choosing only from unemployed people. Let's see what happens after the season.
rams1017: you think the answer is to bench Bulger? WITH WHAT????????????
Jeff Gordon: Sure, leave him in there to turn the ball over again and again and again. Fine.
Mark J: Bulger doesn't give a damn about the Rams. I see no fire, no guts, no toughness. I see a scared wimp who will cost the Rams a bundle when someone figures that out and benches his butt.
Someone in the Rams office should take a look at Bulgers' demeanor on the field.
He doesn't seem like he cares a damn about what happens. A QB should be the FIRST one who fires up the rest of the team.
You can speak to OL troubles or the D not preventing the run or passing, but when it comes to offense, Marc Bulger is a liability.
Where's the yelling and screaming, and simple body language one would expect from a QB with fire in his belly?
I'm going to say it here, right now: The Rams are lost until they cut Bulger loose and find a fired-up QB who gives a damn if his team wins.
Marc Bulger is a detriment to the Rams. Period. Lose this uncaring boring QB. Cut your losses and get rid of Bulger.
Jeff Gordon: And there is the other end of the spectrum.
Josh: I know this is extreme beyond all belief with pick 2 or 3 (or maybe 1 because at least the Lions compete), and I know we don't really need him. But would you debate drafting Jeremy Maclin just to get some hype around the team? I know its absurd and really not the best move, but if we don't draft him outright would you consider trading to get a pick in a spot to take him? You have to admit that it would put some excitement in St. Louis fans to have a hometown guy with that much homerun skill in the orgnaization. Just a thought.
Jeff Gordon: Maclin is exciting, but the Rams have a supply of similar guys. Other needs are greater.
Lawarence Marmie: If the Rams continue to play this way, will your boy Haslett even be able to land a job as a special teams coach for a high school team?
Jeff Gordon: There you go again.
LaughingLion: So what exactly did the Rams get when Scott Linehan gave away Ryan Fitzgerald? Scott Linehan, the gift that keeps on giving.
Seriously, how did SF not score in the second half? There must be people complaining on the SF newspaper 49er forums. This was, after all, the Rams.
I don't see how you put the Rams ahead of the Raiders. The Lions may well be worse, but the Raiders? Worse than this?
Jeff Gordon: The Rams got a late pick for Ryan, but it's not like he was going re-sign here for the long haul.
As for the Raiders, yeah, they're worse. It's cluster out there under Davis.
gooth4: What are the ways to get rid of the players with outrageous contracts? (like Glover, Pisa,Bennett, and most of the team?)
Do the Rams just have to ride it out if no other team will trade for them?
It just seems like they have to unload these useless players that are eating up the salary cap.
Jeff Gordon: Nobody will trade for these guys. One by one, they will exit. Some will cause cap hits, others won't. But it's time to turn over the veteran base.
bighawk_50: These Rams are a sorry bunch.Jackson holds out for more money, than gets hurt of course. Bulger looks and acts like a high school quaterback. Holt complains because he dosent get the ball more. Little on defense is hurt most of the time one question could they beat missouri? I truithfully dont think so. For sure they wouldnt beat the sooners.
Jeff Gordon: You think Missouri's "D" could stop this team? Not happening.
comebacktoLA: Great time management at the end of the game. Lets call 3 TOs and then do nothing. Loved the on side kick - oh yeah, non on-side kick. What's up with that? BTW, look forward to seeing you guys coming home....
Jeff Gordon: Build a stadium in your lifetime and you might get a team
gooth4: What percentage of the rams locker room is full of players that are use to losing and feel that it is ok to lose? Im going with 90%
It seems like we have adopted the mentality of the Bengals franchise. Where the players just feel like, "Hey I played pretty good today", but the team sucked it up on the field and have a losing record.
Jeff Gordon: Few of these guys are immune to that issue. Maybe none.
Thanks for all the questions and comments. See ya next week!
