Stray Rescue of St. Louis brings its previous Arf Nouveau show to a new venue with a new name. Petruta Lipan, cat owner and director of the St. Louis University Museum of Art, talks about giving a good home to Urban Wanderers, which opens tonight and includes artwork from former "M*A*S*H" star Loretta Swit.
• Why did you decide to host the exhibit? We wanted to support the cause and show the importance of pet ownership through a cultural perspective. When people create art based on rescued dogs and cats, it becomes as much about the participants as it does about the art.
• How did Loretta Swit get involved? (Stray Rescue founder) Randy Grim is very good friends with her. She painted about 20 pieces for the exhibit.
• Do any of her paintings stand out? One is so haunting because it looks like the dog has human eyes. And I wonder if that was a conscious or subconscious decision, because all of us consider pets part of our human families.
• Anything else people should know? Volunteers at Stray Rescue worked with the animals there to produce different paintings. So about half of the art in the show is made by dogs. And a few by cats.
