Animals and their adventures inspired "Untamed," opening today at Craft Alliance in the Delmar Loop. Go! spoke with Stefanie Kirkland, director of exhibitions and co-curator (with Luanne Rimel) of the show.
What's the idea behind "Untamed"? Animals have always been an essential part of our history. In this show, we look at artists who are really exploring the essence of the animal — their souls or their spirit, and their fragile existence in our world.
Of the artists represented — Carol Eckert, Sayaka Ganz, Geoffrey Gorman, Sylvie Rosenthal, Rachel Wilson and Russell Wrankle — did any of them create work especially for "Untamed"? Carol Eckert did make a new piece for the show, because she loved the idea. And Russell Wrankle has made a couple of new pieces for the show as well.
What kind of experience can people expect from the exhibition? It will create a complete atmosphere of being surrounded by animals. … Hopefully, you'll feel among the beasts.
