Young book lovers, there's lots to put on calendars for fall.
Start with tonight: "Mockingjay," the final in the popular "Hunger Games" trilogy by Suzanne Collins, goes on sale Tuesday. And if you can't wait more than 12 hours, or you don't need to get to bed early for school, Pudd'nHead Books in Webster Groves is staying open until midnight so kids can get their copies right away.
Wednesday: Amy Ignatow signs her first book, "The Popularity Papers" at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Louis County Library Headquarters. The title of the book was incorrect in a listing in Sunday's paper. It got mixed up with a delicious enticement: The Wimpy Kids Ice Cream Truck will be handing out free popsicles at the library at 6 p.m.
The bookstore and library are teaming up on a great fall lineup of prominent authors for kids of all ages. Here's a brief list of the authors that appeal particularly to teens and young readers:
Cassandra Clare, "Clockwork Angel," Sept. 3
Eoin Colfer, "Artemis Fowl: The Atlantis Complex," Sept. 17
Ellen Hopkins, "Fallout," Sept. 20
Sarah Pennypacker & Marla Freeze, "Clementine, Friend of the Week," Sept. 27
Cinda Williams Chima, "The Exiled Queen," Sept. 30
That's just September. In October, look for Mem Fox, Michael Buckley, Jon Scieszka, David Wiesner, Wendelin Van Draanen, Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.
