An interesting twist in the controversy over the book "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother."

The Wall Street Journal reports that the Chinese title of Amy Chua's memoir is "Being a Mom in America." (Story notes that this is one translation.)

The report says:

 It remains to be seen how well Ms. Chua’s book will sell in China (the English version is currently number five on Amazon’s bestseller list). Western-style parenting is in vogue among some in China, where traditional parenting methods have come under fire for producing robot-like children who find it difficult to socialize and be creative. But this is one American mom whose ideas might not seem so novel in China.

The Chinese publisher knew the book would be controversial. Wang Feifei, Citic Press's acquisition editor, is quoted as saying:

 “We don’t take it as a traditional parenting book, largely because it involves intense cross-cultural collision and conflict.”

So what is Chua? A Chinese mom, an American mom ... or just a savvy author?
