The co-author of "Let's Go Cruizin' Again" says readers are still nostalgic for 1950s-'70s North County. Craig Kaintz's book (Virginia Publishing, 124 pages, $22.95) has sold more than 1,000 copies, and he expects it to match the 7,000 he and Bill Kasalko sold with "Cruizin' North County."
The new paperback includes a few recipes and color photos, although most of the caption-free images are black and white.
The men lived on the same street in Bellefontaine Neighbors back in the day, although they didn't meet until years later. Kaintz emailed answers to a few questions. For more: cruizinnorthcounty.com/
Do you still cruise North County? • We still frequent many places, including Ponticello's, Hendel's, White Barn, Nagle's and Paul's Market.
What was special about the area? • Bill and I often say it was like the shows "Happy Days" and "Leave It to Beaver." Until we cruized in our cars, we rode our bikes everywhere.
Where do you get photos? • We had several sources, including the Mercantile Library, Dan Dillon ("So, Where'd You Go to High School?"), Historic Florissant, and Ferguson and Jennings historical societies.
