Ellie S. Grossman calls her columns "domestic satire." A blogger for jewishinstlouis.org and a freelance writer, Grossman collected some of her pieces for "Mishegas of Motherhood" (Bluebird, 295 pages, $15.95; paperback). The 47-year-old Wildwood woman uses the Yiddish term "mishegas" to refer to "the crazy insanity of raising children." Grossman will read from her book at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at St. Louis Community College-Wildwood, 2645 Generations Drive.
What are readers most interested in? • The funny take on everyday family situations, like getting everyone to eat dinner together. Writing a cellphone contract. The readers aren't all Jewish or mothers.
You have a 16-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter. Do you find the teen years difficult? • I find them very challenging. One of my pieces is "Teen Brain Baffles Parents." You still want to be their parent, but you also have to let them go.
Is it going to be hard to let them go? • I think so. My son wants to go to college in Chicago, but I think it's too cold!
