A Clayton family's recipe is a finalist in a contest hosted by Conde Nast's Epicurious website to find the best recipe among its users.
Although sour cream and apple crumble pie is a creation of Judy and Mark Hoffman, they are sending their daughter Naomi to compete in the cookoff portion of the competition in New York on Oct. 1.
Naomi Hoffman, a 2002 Clayton High grad who now lives in Minneapolis, says she's been getting "a little family pressure" from back home to perform well at the live finals of the Home Cook Recipe Contest.
"My Dad recently sent me a three-page document on exactly how to make the pie, with all of my parents' little tricks," she says, adding that the recipe is something her parents have been perfecting for about 30 years.
The other two dishes in the cookoff are rosemary pistachio white chocolate chip cookies and sesame-sake salmon. You can find recipes from all three finalists here.
The final showdown in New York is part of the five-day Epicurious Entertains NYC event. Hoffman says she's not nervous about cooking in front of an audience, but she is somewhat rattled to be cooking for noted cookbook author and Bon Appétit contributor Dorie Greenspan, who will be a judge.
"Whoa, Nellie," she jokes.
