Just a nibble of each of the winners from Jilly's Cupcakes' entries into "Cupcake Wars" clearly illustrated the massive amounts of sugar and butter therein, so we got to wondering just how decadent these things were.
The recipe for the Banana Toffee Cupcakes is provided on the Food Network website. Chef Casey Shiller is renowned for his professionalism and precision, so even though the recipe wasn't tested by the Food Network, we're guessing that it's a really accurate recipe.
We ran a seat-of-the-pants estimate (OK, perhaps that's not the best possible term here) through the NutritionData.com calculator. (The estimates you see in the weekly paper and on the website for Let's Eat recipes are done by a professional dietitian.) Here are the estimates per cupcake:
832 calories, 423 calories from fat, 48g fat, 29g saturated fat, no trans fat, 147mg cholesterol, 346mg sodium, 93g carbohydrate, 1g fiber, 77g sugar, 9g protein. Hey, but 30 percent of the daily value for Vitamin A, 19 percent for calcium and 10 percent for iron.
