A St. Louis businesswoman has applied for a liquor license and 3 a.m. closing-time permit for a new bar called Lotus, to go into the former El Borracho space at 2001 Locust Street downtown.

Courtney Severit, who also owns the yet-to-open Bliss Dessert Bar at 1136 Washington Avenue, will design, own and manage Lotus, according to a note mailed to registered voters who live within 500 feet of the proposed bar.

Lotus "will specialize in unique, hand-crafted cocktails (and) personal tableside service ... in an upscale, intimate atmosphere," according to the note.

El Borracho closed in October after a three-year run at Locust and 20th streets.

Attempts to reach Severit were not immediately successful Wednesday. Off the Menu will post more information as details become available.
