While a British boy wizard was hogging the headlines, two Japanese teen alchemists have been saving an alternate universe.

The steampunk-style “Full Metal Alchemist” is a popular anime series that has aired stateside on the Cartoon Network. In the feature-length spinoff, screening Friday and Saturday at midnight at the Moolah, cyborg brothers Ed and Al Elric chase a fugitive rival alchemist to the Wild West valley of Milo, where the oppressed citizens are rising up against evil. (Is there a Japanese word for “Voldemort”?)
