A local lass is on Cloud Nine after winning a dream date with Zac Efron. Efron, the star of the "High School Musical" flicks, will be at Ronnie's Cine next Wednesday to congratualte contest winner Emily Johnson and to present his new film, "Charlie St. Cloud."
Emily, a 17-year-old senior at St. Joseph's Academy, had her name chosen at random in a Universal Studios contest called "Hometown Screening with Zac Efron." Efron will be jetting into town on Wednesday afternoon and heading straight to the theater on South Lindbergh for a red-carpet reception at 7 p.m. The movie begins at 7:30 p.m. -- but only invited guests will be able to attend; so if you want a peek at Efron in the flesh, I'd suggest getting to the theater by 6 and flashing a big smile.
Efron, who is 22, is transitioning out of teen-heartthrob roles. Last year he starred as an aspring actor in the well-reviewed indie "Me and Orson Welles." In the inspirational drama "Charlie St. Cloud," he plays a young man who gets life guidance from the spirit of his deceased little brother. It opens nationwide on Friday, July 30.
I'll provide more information about Efron's appearance, including possible ticket giveaways, as it becomes available.
