"Dog Jack," a family film about a boy and his dog in the midst of the Civil War, screens through Thursday at the Jamestown Cinema.
Previously featured at the St. Louis Film Festival, it's the story of 14-year-old Jed (Benjamin Parker), who escapes from a Southern plantation with his loyal dog, Jack.
Although he is fearful of whites, the runaway slave joins the Union Army in the hopes of someday freeing his mother and sister. In the barracks he is befriended by a veteran who teaches him the meaning of courage and a preacher who teaches him the meaning of faith. Those lessons are put to the test on the battlefield, where Jed confronts his former master.
Narrated by Louis Gossett, Jr., "Dog Jack" is rated PG-13 and screens through Thursday night at Jamestown Mall in Florissant.
