"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1" TWO STARS (PG-13; 1:55) • The "Twilight" saga has been building through three movies to the union of human Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and her vampire swain, Edward Cullen. Director Bill Condon may have been hampered by the source material, which places poor Bella in bed for long stretches, but he does nothing to wake it up. (Jane Henderson)
"Project Nim" THREE AND A HALF STARS (PG-13; 1:33) • In a provocative documentary from James Marsh, the Oscar-winning director of "Man on Wire, " a chimpanzee is taught sign language by human researchers — until he becomes too aggressive to handle and is remanded to a primate prison. This emotional movie doesn't answer the question of whether apes can communicate, but simply pondering it feels like evolutionary progress. (JW)
