Talk about giving a personal touch.

That's what St. Louis superstar Nelly offered the long line featuring hundreds of well-wishers, personally greeting them as they entered the Vatterott College Ex'treme Institute By Nelly, the new music production facility and more that opened on Laclede's Landing Wednesday night.

The building is located at 800 N. Third St., the former home of both Planet Hollywood and the Skybox.

The private, VIP grand opening drew television and radio personalities, politicians, promoters, businessman and more to the recording, design and production school and studio.

The peek into the state-of-the-art facility included full tours of the various classrooms, offices, studio and control room, and those in the house left impressed.

Nelly told the media earlier in the evening he felt a feeling of rejoice at seeing the institute open, but the work was just beginning.

"We have the building. Now it's time to teach," he said. And he added the institute's reach will be extensive. "Hopefully this whole block will be about music, corner to corner."

The facility offers courses in Recording 101, Intro to Production, Pro Tools, Recording the Voice, Video Creation Editing, How to Make a Beat, Recording Instruments and more, taught by industry artists, producers and engineers.

The institute is dedicated to all genres of music.

"Hip-hop is just what I do. It doesn't have to be what you do," Nelly said.

Students began taking classes at Vatterott College Ex'treme Institute By Nelly this week.
