St. Louis is getting a new venue for classic national acts.
River City Casino’s $82 million expansion, which includes a new covered parking structure and a 200-room hotel opening in the fall, also includes an events center that will open in May or June. The exact opening date will be announced in March.
“We believe that entertainment is part of the experience of coming to one of our facilities,” says Anthony Sanfilippo, president and CEO of Pinnacle Entertainment, which owns the casino. “We look at gaming, food and entertainment as all part of the experience we want to provide for our guests.”
Pinnacle Entertainment owns River City Casino, Lumière Place Casino, Hotel Lumière and the Four Seasons Hotel in St. Louis. River City Casino opened in March 2010.
Sanfilippo says the special-events center will host the type of classic names that perform at other Pinnacle properties nationwide.
“Over the New Year’s Eve weekend, we had Dionne Warwick in Baton Rouge, Huey Lewis in Lake Charles, La., and Gladys Knight is going to be in two properties in February,” Sanfilippo says. “We have a nice stream of entertainment that happens at all of our properties.”
He says the space will focus on Motown, pop, country and more genres of music. Comedy acts could also be booked in the new room. Don Rickles recently played another Pinnacle property.
“We do a lot of the entertainers who stir your soul — bring back great memories — names that people grew up with from all different genres of music,” he says. “It’s hard to go wrong with classic artists.”
The 14,000-square-foot venue will hold 1,500 people for concerts or 850 for dinners. Lumière Theater at Lumière Place seats 450.
“Lumière will continue to have a range of musicians including the classics,” Sanfilippo says. “At every property, we have a different customer base, and that’s what we focus on.”
