The season starts a week from today. Should be a great year as no clear favorite is established.
ESPN Rise Magazine has the top 5 in the state like this:
1. Chaminade
2. CBC
3. SLUH
4. Rockhurst
5. Vianney
I think those are my top 5 and in the same order except one big difference. I would have Vianney #1 and Chaminade #5.
As far as public schools go I would have the following rankings:
1. Mehlville
2. Ft. Zumwalt South
3. Ft. Zumwalt West
4. Eureka
5. Oakville
Player of the year should come from one of the following:
Sito - Chaminade
Roeckle - Vianney
Garavalia - Vianney
Gabeljic - Mehlville
Tierney - CBC
St. Marys should look good in class 2, but I am not as familiar with their competition, but suspect Cape Notre Dame will be a little down this year. Priory should be good, young, but good.
Should be a great year. Good luck to all of the teams.

Man, I'm just glad to see Vianney at the top again... Should be a great year for them.

LL, the private schools are about right. Seems CBC and Chaminade always seem to trade off each year as top team.
One player to keeo any eye out for is Bayens from Summit. As a sophmore he scored 12 goals for varsity and was injured last year. This year look for a breakout season as a senior.

Interesting that you bring him up. I agree with your call for a breakout season. He could be like Vacarro was for Parkway West last year. I don't know that he will get 30 like Vacarro did because Summit's schedule has been upgraded quite a bit, but I would not be surprised to see him net 25 or so. Dude is crazy quick.
I think that Ousmanne Guye (sp) Ft. Zumwalt South could have a big scoring season also.
In the MCC it is harder for those guys because they play a really tough schedule. But Roeckle (Vianney) Meyerkord (Chaminade) and Hutchison (CBC) could all have big scoring years. Don't know who will score for SLUH, but someone will. They will be very good as usual. I think Mathis is DeSmets best player, but I don't know how they will use him as far as how many goals he may score. Van Dillen should also score for DeSmet, again depending on how he is used.
I don't mean to be dissing the Illinois schools, I just don't know that much about them. I think the Southwestern Conference with Edwardsville, Collinsville....etc, is traditionally the second best or third best conference in the bi-state area. Coming in only behind the MCC and on a par with the South division of that St. Charles league. There will be big stories from over there for sure.
Can't wait for the season to begin.

yeah he is crazy quick. His ball skills are top notch and he does it at top speed, plus he can score with either foot. What helps him is that they still have Dwyer who at 6'6 is a huge target and defenses have to watch him as well.
Summit is going to be very good this year and oddly enough besides bayens and Dwyer, their best players happen to be sophmores and juniors. Wathc out for Mercer as well. He sets up alot of plays and will get his scoring touch. as a freshman he was in the top ten in Assists last year for Varsity.
Looking forward to a good year on the Pitch

I agree with your assessment of Summit but they will have there hands full just to win their conference. Eureka (Moser has quite the scoring touch, wonder where he got that from?
) would be my pick to win that league with Webster and Summit providing a big challenge. And Summit has a couple of other seniors who should not be overlooked, in particlar Peebles, the sweeper. He is very underrated. Seckman lost a lot, but they closed out last season very strong.
Parway North has a couple of big time players, in particular the big striker (Kristo) 6'4" who scored a lot for the Gallgher Academy team and they have a great up and coming young coach in Dave Beck. No not the asst. from SLU, but the SLUH high player who went to Butler for a year and then played his last 3 years at SLU. But I don't see them winning the conference.
Both Summit and Eureka are in the Mehlville Cup next week and whoever makes it to the finals of that tournament will have to do some work. Oakville, Mehlville, Westminister, Francis Howell are among other strong teams in the tournament.
Then in the near future you have the CBC tournament. What a week of soccer that always is.

True, the sweeper is always underappreciated. Peeples is a strong defender. I agree Moser is going to be chip off the ole block. Talent doesnt drop off in that family does it?
The Sub South will be a tough conference and a couple of these teams may surprise some of the MCC teams.
I think it may surprise everyone if the scoring champ comes from a public school.

Changing the district number does matter though, because it will change the sectional matchups. Districts are still flawed, but last year they put the 4 best teams in 2 districts, and made the district winners play each other then so we were left with only 1 of 4 top teams standing.

Whoever makes it out of the "group of death" (All of the Rockwoods + Parkways West and South) has a brutal path to the Final Four. Knock off CBC and you get Vianney. I think LHS made it through a few years back, but it's a tall order to ask of a public.
What about the Suburban North? Can anyone up there stop Hazelwood West?
