I overheard a "recipe" for weedkiller at lunch last week.

16 oz rubbing alchohol
1 cup salt
1/4 cup Dawn dish detergent
16 oz water

Spray on leaves and base of plant.

Just for fun, we tried it on some poison ivy growing up the wall of the garage. After three applications, the vines are shriveling up and the leaves have gone crispy and brown. Very interesting.

Doesn't that make you feel great? Not to have to spend money on chemicals that you don't know about? I am so grateful to kill the weeks but having a 'home made' one is even better. thanks for sharing.

You are quite welcome.

I never thought I'd benefit from being seated near very loud speaking people at a restaurant, but it turns out that eavesdropping is valuable! Smile

The other neat part about this actually working is that not only are you not harming the environment with chemicals, the raw components are just plain cheap.

This "tonic" may have come from Jerry Baker, "America's Master Gardener" he's got a bunch of tonic recipes for various purposes like greening your lawn, breaking up thatch, discouraging slugs, etc., all made from household ingredients such as dish soap, ammonia, flat beer, tobacco juice, etc. Since you seem to be interested in this, you may want to look up some of his books in the library or at your local book store.
