The B10 is going to be a Top 2 conference this year. Expectations should be high, but reasonable.

Next year will be craziness.

No doubt Chester Frazier was a monumental absence against a team with the style of play of WKU. Against a 4-guard rotational offense, Chester glues himself to the primary ballhandler and not only takes that guy out of play but also completely disrupts the perimeter rotations.

As for the conference: I wonder how many realize that OSU is pulling in what may very well be the best recruiting class in college history in 2010, headlined by Sullinger and Thomas. Michigan, MSU, and Purdue are all pulling in at least two 90+ rated recruits. Even Penn State landed a top-100 guy (granted he went to HS in State College).

The conference should be setup as a top 2-3 conference for the next several years, and should be deeper than it's been in a long, long time.

Minny has everyone back and landed a blue chip forward.

Iowa will be the only doormat, like incredibly, we are in football this year.

MSU has more talent than EVER, Pudrue is a Top 10 team, OSU has 3 NBA talents back (Lighty, Turner, lost other name...) let alone the one and doners coming in.........

If we had 18 teams in our conference, maybe we could be like the Big East. Wink

Last year we had 25 wins and a 1st round come from behind exit without our leader, Chester.

Certainly nothing to be down about, as a whole.

I do expect this team to come together by March. I do expect 23-24 wins. I do expect a 1st round win.

They will be ready to play and with a few bounces and breaks, could make some serious noise.

That's basically what I tried to say with disappointing but understandable. I was bummed out, but not too bent out of shape. W/ Chester I think it would have been a sure win. So yeah, I agree.

I watched Chester for four years - which seemed like 6 or 8 - and never felt having him on the court improved us much.

I think we will be much better this year now that we have someone with athletic ability and scoring ability on the floor instead.

Overall, I agree. My point was that Chester was the leader and would have been a huge defender against their talented guards. We win WKU game with him in the lineup. Not a doubt in my mind.

That being said, Illini Nation is going to love the talent and driving ability of our young guards.

I will always respect Chester and Trent for their all out passion and effort they gave to our program.

I was a critic of both Meacham and Frazier, even questioning if they belonged on a Big Ten roster. However, by their senior years, they developed into solid (nothing spectacular) players and excellent students, leaders and men.

From the moment he arrived right up until he graduated, offensively he was a hindrance. Not particularly adept at penetrating, even worse at decision-making on the occasions he was able to penetrate, and shooting that graduated from terrible when he came in to terribly inconsistent when he graduated.

The thing is, Frazier last year was about the best defensive year I've ever seen from an Illinois player. Perhaps that's too hyperbolic, but I think his offensive skillset (or lack thereof) caused some people to overlook or underestimate the havoc he wreaked at the defensive point. I'll just say he was really really good.

I do agree - I respect that they gave wat they had. I appreciate any kid who competes and puts himself out there. I don't want to sound critical of Chester or Trent - what I appreciated about them is they didn't give less than 100%.

hey had limited physical ability, but I respect their efforts and contributions.
