Post subject: Strings of Arda this afternoon @ Taste of STL
Posted: 04 Oct 2009 15:32 pm
Christian Woehr and his ARDA Ensemble, the strings thereof, gave a 1-hour performance at the main stage of Taste of St. Louis this morning around noon, a first-time SLSO CPP appearance at Taste. While not a huge crowd showed, those who stopped by were very appreciative. Nice mix of arrangements of Eastern European folk tunes, one Middle Eastern number, a Mexican tune, a number from Manuel de Falla's La vida breve, and some bluegrass-tinged fiddling from Rebecca Boyer Hall to close out. Here's hoping they get to come back next year, and more people check it out.

Post subject: free concert @ Wash. U. tomorrow night, 10/7/09
Posted: 06 Oct 2009 19:45 pm
Perhaps as a bit of distraction from the news of the pending sale of KFUO: Washington University is hosting a mini-talk and concert tomorrow, called "Chance Aesthetics", at 7 PM at the 560 Building (the old Symphony and Webster Music School) on Delmar at Trinity. Article from the WU Record about it is here. The performers include Peter Henderson, Henry Claude and Laura Reycraft. The program includes:

(a) John Cage: "Music of Changes Book IV: New York, December 13"
(b) new improvised work
(c) Terry Riley: "In C"

Post subject: Jennifer Jakob recital, Sunday 10/18 @ Wash. U.
Posted: 15 Oct 2009 18:28 pm
For those who remember Jennifer Jakob as a Gerdine Young Artist with OTSL, she's coming to town for a concert at Graham Chapel on the Wash. U. campus this Sunday at 3 PM. Related article is here. Program includes songs by:

(a) Schubert, "The Shepherd on the Rock"
(b) Richard Strauss, Mädchenblumen (4 selections)
(c) Arnold Schoenberg: Brettl-Lieder (selections, and don't panic, these songs are very accessible and "light", for Arnie, anyway)
(d) Robert Schumann: Frauenliebe und Leben

Post subject: Wash. U. Concert Choir tonight, 8 PM
Posted: 04 Dec 2009 14:19 pm
Sorry about the late posting; since the SLSO isn't playing tonight, for those in need of a classical music fix tonight, the Wash. U. Concert Choir is giving a free concert tonight at Graham Chapel on the Wash. U. campus, titled "Two of Each", with selections by Tchaikovsky, Vaughan Williams, Poulenc et al. (whoever "al." may be). Very brief posting about it here.
